SAN JOSE WILLIAM S. WILSON/JOE-JOSEPHINE-"Scott", as we affectionately call him, returns to WVLO doing one of his favorite roles. He is repeating the dual role of loe/Iosephine, which he played several years ago for the Sunnyvale Community' Theatre. Scott started out with WVLO in 1971 as a young boy in ' Fiddler on the Roof". He returned to play Will Parker in "Oklahoma" and was one of the featured performers in the "Rodgers and Hart Musical Celebration". Along with performing on stage, Scott has found time to add Set Decoration to his list of credits for this production. Scott may think some of us have forgotten, but he was one of the original performers in the Music Hair at Marriot's Great America in Santa Clara. Scott lives in San Jose. As far as his current ambitions go, he still claims to want to become a mild-mannered reporter for a major metropolitan newspaper. Watch out, Superman ...!

MIKE MOON/JERRY-DAPHNE-A graduate of SanJoseState and a native Californian, Mike is back with WVLO for the second time, having make his debut in "Some Enchanted Evening". This talented performer has played Tevye in "Fiddler on the Roof", as well as major roles in "Hello Dolly' , "Bye-Bye Birdie" and "Annie Get Your Gun" with other local theater groups. Mike lives in San Jose and works in the Accounting Department of Xerox Corp. His goals are to be "Rich, Happy, and Married". The highlight of his life was when he broke his foot during opening week of "Some Enchanted Evening" and performed through the entire run of the show with his foot in a cast (he's .an expert now in fancy footwork ...).

BETS' JERNIGAN/SUGAR-This very talented young lady, originally from EI~in, Illinois, has studied jazz dancing and motion picture and television acting under scholarships in . Bets' has performed on television in Los Angeles and San Francisco and has done professional modelling. Some of her major roles locally have been Marian in "Music Man", Gladys in "Pajama Game", and Maisie in "The Boy Friend". She is also a musician, playing the flute and clarinet. In September, our lovely Sugar will be getting married and leave her home in San Jose to return to southern California to further her career in acting and dancing for television. Bets' is dedicating her performance in the role of Sugar to her father, "One of the people who has supported me every step of the way." We wish her the very best in reaching her goal. LESDALE/SIR OSGOOD FIELDING-This versatile gentleman has been performing on stage for only six years and wishes he had started thirty-six years ago. Les has played character roles from a thirty-year-old merchant seaman to an 83 year old gardener and will be remembered by WVLO audiences for his portrayal of Franklin Roosevelt in last season's production of "Annie". A fifth generation Californian, Les has worked as an engineer for Pacific Telephone for almost thirty years. In addition to acting, we are fortunate to have Les as our Set Designer for this show. Les is married to Elizabeth, our stage manager, father of two, and soon to be a grandpa. Les enjoys the variety and "fun of theater". In his own words, "How sad it would be to go through life and just be me ...". Les and Elizabeth make their home in Sunnyvale. Nuberry Advertising Inc. Logo Design· Brcx:hures Co lendors·Menus

1033 Willow St.,Suite 200 Son Jose, California 95125 (408) 971-9500 KEN MOlAY/BIENSTOCK-Another of that rare species, the Native Californian, Ken has lived in Florida and other locales, but had the sense to settle down in Sunnyvale. He works for Advanced Micro Devices as a systems analyst and fortunately for WVlO audiences is sharing his talents with us as a performer. Ken has appeared in San Jose Civic light Opera's "Two Gentlemen From Verona" and played the role of Nathan Detroit in Sunnyvale Community Theatre's production of "Guys and Dollie". As far as hobbies go, Ken confesses to being a collector of Ian Fleming novels and James Bond paraphernalia. He also seems to be a crossword puzzle addict and can be seen with sharpened pencil and furrowed brow at almost any time of the day or night. Ken's real ambition is to be a stand-up comedian ...in his own words ...he "has truly found a home in the theatre, but is being evicted for late rent."

TAMMY NELSON/SWEET SUE-Tammy lives in San Jose and is a Savings and New Account representative for Great Western Savings. Seventeen years in California have removed all traces of a southern accent from her home state of South Carolina. Tammy's involvement with this production started innocently enough when she naively asked one of WVLO's producers how she could find out about the next show, a dangerous question to ask any-one connected with WVLO. Before she knew it, her name was on 'The List", and happy we are that she responded. Tammy comes to us with credits for roles in "Southern Pacific", "Hello Doily", "Harvey", and "My Three Angels". Tammy hopes to do more shows in the future. With her great voice and cheerful personality, we are sure her hopes will be realized.

...from the Producers ...

It is not too often that a successful screen vehicle is adapted for the stage. "SUGAR" is one of these rarities, having been originated on film as "SOME LIKE IT HOT". The same memorable characters made the transition with ease to the Broadway stage and is presented here today for your enjoyment. Sit back and relax and let yourself be carried back to the gangster days of old Chicago, and then to the carefree frolicking of millionaires in Miami ...(the original Dirty Old Men) FAYRA/DIRECTOR- This talented lady comes to us with a great deal of experience both as a professional performer and as a director. Fayra is also a teacher of many facets of theatre arts including "How to Audition", "How to Apply Make-up",as well as acting. Her students range from junior high age to senior citizens. Fayra resides in Scotts Valley and is ~urrently a drama instructor for Monterey Peninsula and Cabrillo Colleges and conducts workshops in the Santa Cruz schools for SPECTRA. Fayra has plied her directorial craft in Seattle, Monterey and Santa Barbara, and more recently, in the Bay Area with Star Players, the Northside Theater Company and most recently for the Saratoga Chamber Theatre in the critically acclaimed production of "Luv."

LORRAINE STRIBLING/MUSIC DIRECTOR-Our warm-hearted Music Director, from Los Gatos, is originally from Los Angeles and lived at Lake Tahoe where she managed a motel for nine years. A mother of five, she found time to play with the Reno Municipal Band and was one of the charter members of the San Jose Symphonic Band, playing bass. clarinet. Lorraine has been playing the clarinet since she was a third grader and has played in the reed section of many musicals in this area. Lorraine was the music director for Pheonix Production's presentation of "Babes in Arms", She is currently employed as a software librarian for Semiconductor Corporation. Lorraine is a most welcome addition to the WVLO staff.

DIANE REYNOLDS/CHORAL DIRECTOR-A favorite with the . performers of many WVLO productions, this lovely lady has tickled the ivories on stage and off for auditions, rehearsals and performances. She treats her singers with TLC and can coax the best out of anyone. Diane comes from a musical family, having started her own "career" at the tender age of 8 for . She studied music at Long Beach and Fullerton colleges. Her talented children are following in her footsteps with son Rick, who has his own musical group, and daughter Robin, our assistant choreographer. In her "real" life, Diane resides in Los Gatos and is an accounting supervisor for General Electric. She is also the treasurer for the Community Players of Los Gatos-Saratoga. Don't tell anyone but Diane secretly aspires to be on-stage in the role of a lady bass. BRIEN TIMOTHY MAHONEY/CHOREOGRAPHER-This native New Yorker, now residing in San Jose, is playing a repeat performance as a master craftsman in the art of dance. Brien choreographed "Annie" at this theatre last season and has returnee to put our dancers through their paces. Ifthey can survive his warm-up exercises, they can do anything. This task-master has p,erformed on-stage in "Oliver", "Anything Goes", "Pippin", 'Mame ", "Sugar", and "My Fair Lady", to name just a few of his credits. He was seen most recently in Saratop,a Drama Group's production of "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers '. Brien spends his daytime hours in Victorian architecture and archeology and there are rumors that he is a gourmet cook. We'll verify that after he cooks up the fantastic dinner he has promised us (providing cooks up the fantastic dinner he has promised us (providing we bring our own dinnerware ...).

WEST VALLEY LIGHT OPERA ASSOCIA liON ANNOUNCES ITS 21st SEASON - 1985-1986

"MY FAIR LADY" - Universally hailed asperhaps the greatest musical ever written because of Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's masterful musical transformation of Shaw's "Pygmalion", it inspires a virtuoso performance from every member of the cast. Songs so beloved that each one stops the show: "With a Little Bit of Luck", "Wouldn't It Be Loverly?", "The Rain in Spain", "I Could Have Danced All Night", "Get Me To The Church On Time", "I've Grown Accustomed To Her Face", just to hit the high spots. Performances November!December 1985

"DAMES AT SEA" - This 1930's musical opened on Broadway Dee. 20,1968, to rave reviews. It has won the praise of critics and the hearts of audiences to make it one of the biggest hits of many a season. For "Dames At Sea" is really not about the 1930's, but about the campy nostalgia of the Hollywood musical extravaganzas of the 30's. It won the New York Times Outer Circle Critics Award as best musical of the year. Performances March! April 1986

"IRENE" - This revival of the 1919 hit, which opened on Broadway in 1973, marked another full-fledged love affair with the real - a theatre which genuinely entertains simply because it offers a basic blockbuster melange of great songs, an uncomplicated book and a wonderfully optimistic outlook - who could ask for more! The major part of the score was written by Harry Tierney with lyrics by Joseph McCarthy. Others contributed to such songs as "Alice Blue Gown", "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows", "Irene", and "You Made Me Love You". Performances Iune/Iuly/ August 1986 CAPTAIN'S CAPE AWARD

At the end of the '79-80 season, the WVLO Board initiated a special award in memory of its late President, Captain R.P. Maurice.
