POSITION DESCRIPTION CITY OF FAIRMONT

POSITION: Store Manager

DIVISION: Finance

DEPARTMENT: Liquor Store

POSITION SUMMARY Performs a variety of administrative and supervisory work in the management of the municipal off-sale liquor store operation including but not limited to: managing and directing the day to day operations of the store; supervising and scheduling employees; developing objectives for the store; preparing marketing and merchandising concepts; establishing policies and procedures guaranteeing compliance with applicable laws and regulations; and maintaining proper store inventories.

POSITION AUTHORITY Works under limited supervision of the Director of Finance.

RELATIONSHIPS

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR Director of Finance

SUPERVISES Assistant Manager, Retail Clerks.

EMPLOYEE CONTACTS Liquor store employees, Finance Department, Administration, Public Works.

OUTSIDE CONTACTS Considerable public contact, sales representatives, MMBA.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise and assist with the day to day operations of the liquor store, including; stocking and storing of merchandise; displaying merchandise; maintaining overall appearance of the store; ringing sales, customer service and cash handling.

Insure conformance of all store operations to all applicable laws and regulations.

Establish and maintain a training program to keep all liquor store staff informed and knowledgeable of store products and liquor laws and train staff in proper customer relations skills in an effort to maintain a high quality of service to the public.

Establish and administer retail objectives for the store including: customer service

objectives; operating plans; advertising strategies; and store improvements.

Purchase or supervise the purchase of all products with an emphasis on evaluating deals to maximize profitability. Maintain appropriate inventory levels. Conduct periodic physical inventory throughout the year. Provide monthly reports to the finance department.

Supervise the receiving and storage of products.

Supervise and evaluate personnel within the liquor store. Recommends hiring, termination, promotion, discipline, etc.

Responsible for establishing work schedules.

Assist in coordinating and conducting / club and tasting events.

Performs other duties as directed.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Associate’s degree in Business or a related field and at least five years of previous retail experience with some background in bookkeeping and administrative work. Desirable: Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field. Previous experience with a retail liquor operation. Previous supervisory or management experience.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of Federal, State and City laws and regulations related to liquor sales.

Knowledge of computer and point of sale systems.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Knowledge of general accounting practices sufficient to manage a store budget.

Knowledge of types of liquor, beer and wine, and ability to suggest selections suitable to customer’s needs.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with customers and staff.

Ability to represent the City in a professional manner at all times.

Ability to work a flexible schedule including some weekends, evenings and holidays.

Skill in the operation of listed tools and equipment.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED Phone, copy machine, cash register and calculator.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
