This compendium will provide a glimpse of the events and technological upgradation over last 80 years since inception of this committee. As very old records were not available easily, efforts have been made to collect as much records for the ESC, particularly for pre-independence period. Initially separate ESC meetings used to be held for General Services and Traction. From 49th ESC onward, which was held in January’1999 at Pune, a decision was taken to convene a common ESC meeting for all items of Electrical department. This compendium will be updated regularly so that all the records are available at one place. -

It profiles growth and development of passenger travel market in India. Along with a historical and evolutionary account of modal share underscoring the ecosystem in which the market has functioned, an imperative need for an optimal modal mix is suggested in the interest of the economy as well as environment. Pricing and cost matrix is an important element, so also the demand and supply analysis, particularly of rail services, for investment planning. Some essential features are catalogued by way of lessons learnt for an optimal modal share, which, in turn, implies judicious investments for capacity build-up and development. Keywords: Intercity transport, suburban, optimal modal split 1. INTRODUCTION Serving a land area of 3.3 million square km and a population of over one billion, India's transport system is one of the world’s largest. It consists mainly of roads, railways, and air services. In a few states, inland water transport plays a small supplementary role. And along its long 7,500 km coastline, India has 200 seaports. Since 1950-51, marking the commencement of economic planning era in the country, there has been a significant change in the modal split of passenger traffic. -

Introduction Transportation is the backbone of any economic, culture, social and industrial development of any country. Transportation is the movement of human, animal and goods from one location to another. Now a day we are using so many method for transporting like air, land, water, cable etc. transportation is find installation infrastructure including roads, airway, railway, water, canels and pipelines and terminal (may be used both for interchange of passenger and goods). 2. Rail Transport Rail transport is where train runs along a set of two parallel steel rails, known as a railway or railroad. Passenger transport may be public where provide fixed scheduled service. Freight transport has become focused on containerization; bulk transport is used for large volumes of durable item. Rail transport is a means of transferring of passenger and goods on wheeled running on rail, also known as tracks, tracks usually consist of steel rails, installed on ties (sleepers) and ballast. -

Booking Train Ticket through internet Website: irctc.co.in Booking Guidelines: 1. The input for the proof of identity is not required now at the time of booking. 2. One of the passengers in an e-ticket should carry proof of identification during the train journey. 3. Voter ID card/ Passport/PAN Card/Driving License/Photo Identity Card Issued by Central/State Government are the valid proof of identity cards to be shown in original during train journey. 4. The input for the proof of identity in case of cancellation/partial cancellation is also not required now. 5. The passenger should also carry the Electronic Reservation Slip (ERS) during the train journey failing which a penalty of Rs. 50/- will be charged by the TTE/Conductor Guard. 6. Time table of several trains are being updated from July 2008, Please check exact train starting time from boarding station before embarking on your journey. 7. For normal I-Ticket, booking is permitted at least two clear calendar days in advance of date of journey. 8. Dhanbad Division-A Historical Perspective
Dhanbad Division-A Historical Perspective Dhanbad is a premier coal loading division of Indian Railways. The first colliery line on this division was laid in 1894 and the Grand Chord section was opened in 1906. The division was initially created as a transportation sub-division of Asansol division in 1946. A full-fledged division became operational in 1963. Dhanbad division was initially one of the five divisions of the Eastern Railway but after the formation of ‘East Central Railway’ on 1stOctober, 2002,Dhanbad division became part of East Central Railway along with four other divisions i.e. Mughalsarai, Danapur, Sonepur and Samastipur with headquarter at Hajipur. Dhanbaddivision primarily loads coal.Most of the coal is carried to ‘Up’ country power houses located in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and U.P. Coal is also loaded for industries (non-core) located in Northern India. Coal also moves for ‘Down’ country destinations viz. power houses located in West Bengal, and washed coal to steel plants located at Durgapur, IISCO Burnpur&Tisco. Other commodities loaded on the division are bauxite from Tori, Richughuta and Meralgram for Hindalco plant at Renukoot, lime stone/dolomite from Bhavnathpur for Bokaro steel plant and cement from ACC-Sindri and Lemos-Khalari. The territorial jurisdiction of the division covers Pradhankhunta(incl.)-Manpur(excl.), Gomoh-Barkakana-Garwa Road-Chopan, Chopan-Singrauli-Mahadiya, Karaila Road- Shaktinagar, Dhanbad-Sindri town, Dhanbad-Patherdih&Dhanbad-Chandrapura sections. It deals with traffic on two important routes namely G.C. (Grand Chord) section from Pradhankhunta to Manpur& the CIC (Central Industrial Coalfields) section from Gomoh- Barkakana-Garwa road. -

Volume 01 Month : Nov 2017 Editor : Dr. Siddarth Shetty IN RIGHT EARNEST Our half yearly unaudited financial results are out and we are pleased to inform you that we have made a modest Rs. 4.46 Lakhs excess of income over expenditure. Though the Club Memorandum of Association states that the object of the Club is to operate on a no profit and no loss basis, in terms of financial management, it is difficult to aim at such a status. Our efforts at increasing sales, cutting costs, developing new vendors, maintaining good control over inventories and motivating staff to reduce wastage, have all paid off. Joint Secretary Mr. Ganesh Kamath, who is also the Chairman of the Sub Committee on Finance and Kitchen, has been the key driver. Issue 04 As of now, we have not taken up any new large capital expenditure project. Our focus in the last three months has been on completing the pending works of the AC Hall and Gym. We have ordered a Cabin for our Security Guards at a cost of Rs. 1.40 Lakh which should be ready before Christmas. We have floated enquiries for 150 banquet chairs for the new Hall and for an automated boom gate at the entrance. The committee has also approved the installation of a new elevator which will cost somewhere between Rs.10.00 and Rs.15.00 Lakh and negotiations with 3 suppliers are in progress to get the best in terms of costs and quality. The Managing Committee has approved the affiliation requests of The Ranchi Club Limited and The Mumbai Police Gymkhana. -

NAMES OF TRAINS Agniveena Express 2341/ 2342 Howrah – Asansol (ER Howrah division) In Bangla it means “The Fiery Lute”. This is the name given to the collection of poems by the celebrated Bengali poet, musician, revolutionary and philosopher, Kazi Nazrul Islam. He was born in Burdwan district in 1899 and died in Dhaka in 1976. He is the national poet of Bangladesh, and also honoured in India. Ahilyanagari Express 6325/ 6326 Indore – Thiruvananthapuram Central (SR Thiruvananthapuram division) Rajmata Ahilyadevi Holkar (1725-1795, ruled 1767-1795) also known as the Philosopher Queen was a Holkar dynasty Queen of the Malwa kingdom. She took over reigns of the kingdom after the death of her husband and father-in-law. She moved the capital to Maheshwar south of Indore on the Narmada River. She also built temples and Dharamshalas (free lodging)at sacred sites outside her kingdom, at prominent religious places like Dwarka, Kashi Vishwanath in Varanasi, Ujjain, Nasik, Parli Vaijnath and Somnath. The city of Indore is sometimes called Ahilyanagari in her memory.
