Activities' Highlights: 12 April 2014 Health Carnival Health Carnival on World Health Day 2014 was held on 12 April 2014 at Tin Hau Temple Feng Shui Square at Tai Po. The theme for this year was "Vector-borne diseases - Small creatures, Big threat". 25 April 2014 Interview by Radio & Television Hong Kong (RTHK) As one of the activities to celebrate the International Nurses Day 2014, Dr. MAK Yim-wah and two nurse experts, Ms. Susan LAU (Nurse Consultant) & Ms. LAW Wan-po (Advanced Practice Nurse) were interviewed by Mr. SIU Kwok-wa ( ) & Ms. TANG Yuen-kwan ( ), the hosts of a radio programme at RTHK on 25 April. During the programme, they had shared in the air about the nurse education in Hong Kong, the entry requirements of a nurse and attributes of an advanced practice nurse. 2 Hong Kong Society for Nursing Education Newsletter/December 2014 26 April 2014 28th Annual General Meeting & Symposium The 28th Anniversary Annual General Meeting cum Symposium was successfully held on 26 April 2014. Echoed with the fruitful discussion on enhancing patient safety through nursing education in the Society's 27th Symposium, the Society would like to continue to reinforce the issue of patient safety in difference aspects of the health care service. Thus the theme for this year was "Enhancing patient safety through good quality of services". The Society was honoured to have Dr. LEONG Che-hung, the Society's Patron to kick off the symposium by giving the opening speech. Four renowned speakers had been invited to share their views on the patient safety from their perspectives namely: Dr. KO Wing-man, the Secretary for Food and Health Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; Dr. LUI Siu-fai, Clinical Professional Consultant, Division of Health System, Policy and Management. JC School of Public Health & Primary Care, The Chinese University of Hong Kong; Mr. LAM Chi-yau, the Vice-Chairman of Hong Kong Alliance of Patients' Organizations; Mr. TSANG Kam-wing, Edwin, Nurse Specialist (Geriatrics), TWGHs Fung Yiu King Hospital and Mr. Vincent PAU, the nurse volunteer of Medecins Sans Frontieres. The Society was grateful to all the participants especially Prof. Sophia CHAN, the Undersecretary of Food and Health Bureau of HKSAR, Prof. Joseph LEE, Member of Legislative Council of HKSAR, nurses from Sino-Portuguese Nurses' Association, educators from local universities and Schools of Nursing, nurse leaders and clinicians as well as the nursing students for their continuing support and making the symposium and dinner a wonderful professional event!
