Towersey Newsletter

April 2017

Editorial

As Easter approaches there is a lot happening in this vibrant community, read on………

We receive lots of positive feedback about the newsletter and how important it is to villagers. We endeavour to issue both the hard copy and the e version of the newsletter promptly each month to ensure all villagers have the news around the same time. We are assisted in this by our excellent team of nine newsletter distributors around the village. However, we really would appreciate some help with co- ordinating the distribution. This would involve receiving the printed copies of the newsletter and delivering the required number of newsletters and a list of addresses to each of our newsletter distributors. If you could help with this please do get in touch.

Residents urged to get involved in South Local Plan Communities in are being urged to “get involved” as the district council develops its plan to address the need for housing and job growth in the district. The plan includes a more detailed look at what new infrastructure will be needed and how it will be delivered. The latest draft of the council’s new Local Plan will be available for consultation from 29 March for seven weeks to give residents and local organisations the opportunity to comment on the document. The plan includes more detail about the district’s need for infrastructure like new shops, leisure centres, schools and roads - and how this need will change as new houses are built. Cllr John Cotton, Leader of South Oxfordshire District Council, said: “We are coming to an important stage as we develop the Local Plan and now is the time for residents to get involved. It covers how we plan to deal with the local need for new homes, but also how we’ll make sure the district gets the infrastructure and high quality jobs it needs to support them.” The plan will be published on the council’s website at www.southoxon.gov.uk/newlocalplan along with all the details on how to comment. There are four public exhibitions taking place throughout April for residents to find out more about the plan and to ask questions. Residents can attend any event to discuss what is happening in their area: , Barns Centre – Saturday 8 April, 10am–4pm

Dorothy Turner’s daughter, Helen Milton, has very kindly passed on to us a number of interesting items from Towersey’s history that Dorothy saved. Below are the pages of a leaflet that was produced back in 1972. What a great idea! Maybe we could do something similar again?

BELSHAZZAR’S FEAST IN TOWERSEY MEMORIAL HALL A DAY OF FUN AND MUSIC-MAKING

On Saturday 11 March, local community choir Towersey Village Voices was proud to present a day of workshop singing with Paul Sartin (half of Belshazzar’s Feast), followed by an evening concert when Paul was joined by Paul Hutchinson for Belshazzar’s first ever appearance in the intimate setting of Towersey Memorial Hall. During the day members of Village Voices and other singers from a wide area were taught three songs, and in the evening a packed audience was treated to a mixture of humour and brilliant music- making by the Pauls, leaving everyone clamouring for more.

A raffle was held in aid of Village Voices’ chosen charity for the year, Rosie’s Rainbow Fund, which provides music therapy for sick children in local hospitals, and in various community settings for children with special needs, as well as offering support to parents.
