Work Package 5 – Task 5.5 Analysis of the development of the housing market in Sofia MARKET ANALYSIS OF URBAN SPRAWL IN SOFIA Assoc. Prof. Arch. Alexander Slaev, Varna Free University The goals of this study are: • to identify whether and to what extent processes of urban sprawl exist in Sofia • to identify whether and to what extent these processes were/ are generated by the market • to identify the main indicators to measure urban sprawl and the impact of the market • to identify the specific features of market demand generating urban sprawl in Sofia • to identify the interests of the market players and groups that have major contribution to the processes of urban sprawl in Sofia • to identify the main indicators to measure urban sprawl and the impact of the market • to identify social and economic factors and components of urban policy that influence market demand that generates sprawl 1. Processes of urban expansion of Sofia – growth versus sprawl In this part of the study the growth of the town/ the city of Sofia will be examined with respect to the correlation between the growth of the population, the growth of the urbanized territory and the density of population. There is a relation between the processes of growth of a city and the processes of sprawl. Like sprawl, urban growth, too, usually results in expansion of urbanized territories. The main difference is that growth normally induces rises in urban densities, while falling densities are an inherent characteristic of urban sprawl. Therefore, the enlargement of the built-up are of Sofia is the first factor to be studied with respect to studying the processes of growth/ sprawl in Sofia. -

Heraldry in Macedonia with Special Regard to the People's/Socialist
genealogy Article Heraldry in Macedonia with Special Regard to the People’s/Socialist Republic of Macedonia until 1991 Jovan Jonovski Macedonian Heraldic Society, 1000 Skopje, North Macedonia; [email protected] or [email protected]; Tel.: +389-70-252-989 Abstract: Every European region and country has some specific heraldry. In this paper, we will consider heraldry in the People’s/Socialist Republic of Macedonia, understood by the multitude of coats of arms, and armorial knowledge and art. Due to historical, as well as geographical factors, there is only a small number of coats of arms and a developing knowledge of art, which make this paper’s aim feasible. This paper covers the earliest preserved heraldic motifs and coats of arms found in Macedonia, as well as the attributed arms in European culture and armorials of Macedonia, the кing of Macedonia, and Alexander the Great of Macedonia. It also covers the land arms of Macedonia from the so-called Illyrian Heraldry, as well as the state and municipal heraldry of P/SR Macedonia. The paper covers the development of heraldry as both a discipline and science, and the development of heraldic thought in SR Macedonia until its independence in 1991. Keywords: heraldry of Macedonia; coats of arms of Macedonia; socialist heraldry; Macedonian municipal heraldry 1. Introduction Macedonia, as a region, is situated on the south of Balkan Peninsula in Southeast Citation: Jonovski, Jovan. 2021. Europe. The traditional boundaries of the geographical region of Macedonia are the lower Heraldry in Macedonia with Special Néstos (Mesta in Bulgaria) River and the Rhodope Mountains to the east; the Skopska Crna Regard to the People’s/Socialist Gora and Shar mountains, bordering Southern Serbia, in the north; the Korab range and Republic of Macedonia until 1991. -

History and Political Thought: South Slavic Ideologies, Greater Croatia
History and Political Thought: South Slavic Ideologies, Greater Croatia Pavao Ritter Vitezović. Part IV By Dr. Vladislav B. Sotirović Region: Europe Global Research, September 29, 2018 Theme: History In-depth Report: THE BALKANS Read Part I, II, III. An importance and influence of P. R. Vitezović’s ideological concept P. R. Vitezović’s works had a great impact on the development of the South Slavic national ideologies, national consciousness, and nationalism. Paradoxically but true, P. R. Vitezović influenced at the great degree the 18th century Serbian and Bulgarian national movements. His heraldic manual under the title Stemmatographia, sive Armorum Illyricorum delineatio, descriptio et restitution (Vienna, 1701), in which coats of arms of all “Illyrian” (i.e., according to him, Croatian) historical provinces were presented, was translated into the Slavonic- Serbian language, adapted and expanded in the mid-18th century by the Serbian patriot of the Bulgarian ethnic origin from South Hungary, Hristifor Žefarović (1700–1753). Nonetheless, previously to P. R. Vitezović, the examples of coats of arms of Illyria (i.e. the Balkans) were available in Sebastian Münster’s Cosmographia (Basel, 1544) and revised by the Italian version in 1575. A very idea of the Illyrian (i.e. the Balkan or the South Slavic) unity could be found exactly in S. Münster’s Cosmographia, where the lands of Carinthia, Carniola, Croatia, Slavonia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina are described as the Illyrian provinces. P. R. Vitezović used, in addition to S. Münster’sCosmographia , as a basis for his own armorial manual, a heraldic work of the Herzegovinian nobleman and admiral in the Spanish navy service, Petar Ohmučević (known in Spain as Don Pedro) from 1596.
