Acquisitions Editor (f/m/d) English and American Studies

We are looking for a passionate new team member for our editorial team “Language, Literature & Culture”. You will be responsible for the acquisition of new publication projects towards dynamic development of our English and American Studies portfolio.

YOUR TASKS Strategic development and international alignment of our English and American Studies portfolio in close coordination with our Editorial Director for Language, Literature & Culture Acquisition of a publication portfolio (books, book series, journals, electronic resources) mainly in Modern English and American Literature and Culture with a focus on the U.S. market Expansion and fostering of academic networks with authors, editors, societies, and research institutes Budget responsibility for project signings and output toward achieving economic objectives Representation of the department at international academic conferences Close collaboration with our editorial office, production, marketing, and sales teams

YOUR PROFILE

Education You have a Master’s degree or PhD in English or American Studies. Work experience You have experience in the academic publishing industry and in the field of English or American Studies. You bring to the position your acquired knowledge of the market as well as a lively academic network. Work attitude You are intellectually curious with a passion for finding creative solutions toward developing innovative publishing products. You enjoy working in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment. Your personal working style is organized, efficient, and structured. You have excellent communication and negotiation skills. Technical understanding You are proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and are able to quickly familiarize yourself with publishing software. You have a strong interest in different digital forms of publishing. Entrepreneurial spirit You have a motivated, entrepreneurial, results-oriented personality with a track record for success. Your decision-making reflects a good balance of passion for the content and economic result. Enthusiasm and communication You are highly self-motivated in your work. You have excellent oral and written communication skills and a demonstrated interpersonal ability in relations with authors and editors. Language skills You are a native speaker of English. Fluent command of both oral and written German is a plus.
