Department of Education Established

By Leo Coady

On October 17, the Department of Education was created. The newly founded Department has told us that their main goal is “to strengthen the federal commitment to ensuring access to equal educational opportunity.”

Hopefully this new department will help our children strive to

succeed in life by giving them a chance for education.

The new department separated from the only Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. With the creation of the Department of Education, the old HEW’s name is now the Department of Health and Human Services.

When asked what was the most help in creating the new department, officials said that President Lyndon Johnson’s “War on Poverty” contributed greatly to the founding of the Department of Education.

The “War on Poverty” called for programs to improve the education for poor students. Because the main goal of the Department of Education is to provide equal education to everyone

including poor students, the programs that were set in place to help the education of poor students greatly helped in the creation of the new department.

The Department of Education hopes to provide financial aid to students that need support for going to college. Funds will be provided to the Department of Education by the Government. A big percentage of their budget will be used for helping students go to college.

In the cave the ice is delicate. There are crystal ice ceilings. This day would forever be known as the “Bloody Sunday Massacre of 1905.”

This event would later spark the Russian revolution of 1905, during which workers responded to the Czar’s actions with a series of crippling strikes throughout the country.

Another event that led to the Czar’s death was Russia entering World War I because the war caused a lot of problems for Russia and the Czar.

Food became scarce. Soldiers became war weary. Devastating defeats at the hands of Germany demonstrated the ineffectiveness

of Russia under Nicholas. This led to the Russian Revolution of 1917.

A few weeks later, Czar Nicholas was forced to abdicate his throne, and the radical socialist Bolsheviks, led by Vladimir Lenin, seized power in Russia from the provisional government.

A year later a Civil War broke out in Russia in June. A month later the anti-Bolshevik “white” Russian forces advance on Yekaterinburg, where Nicholas and his family were. (Yekaterinburg was renamed Sverdlovsk after the Communist revolution.)

During a campaign against the Bolshevik forces, local authorities were ordered to prevent a rescue of the Romanovs. After a secret

meeting of the Yekaterinburg Soviet, a death sentence was passed on the Imperial family.

Late on the night of July 16, Nicholas and his family were ordered to dress quickly and go down to the cellar of the house in which they were being held.

Then, suddenly a firing squad burst into the roam and gunned down the imperial family. The remains of the Romanov family remained unknown until discovered by an amateur archeologist Alexander Avdonin.
