Cambridgeshire County Council cannot accept responsibility if your g2g Card does not work at an activity if the provider is using a different merchant code to the one that best describes their business. Some merchants with multiple businesses may use merchant category codes that reflect other aspects of their business needs that may not fall under the categories of leisure and entertainment. Retail or other professional services are such examples of Merchant Codes that are not part of the g2g Card Pilot.

Activity provider does not take card payments. Please talk to your Connexions worker or Youth Worker about getting a cheque for this activity. Will the g2g Card stay after the first year?

This is easily the most asked question that we get so we wanted to write a short piece in this edition of ‘Got-2-Gossip’ to let you know where the pilot stands. The g2g Card is a one-year pilot that is being funded by the Government Department for Children, Schools and Families to see if we can assist some young people to make more of activities. Because lack of money is one of the big reasons that young people tell us they do not do activities, we are testing out a payment card that is only for activities. The term ‘pilot’ means that Cambridgeshire County Council will test something out and if it works and people like it, we can look at how we may continue it. If it does not work and people in Cambridgeshire do not like it, then we can learn from the pilot but not carry it on.

There are a number of things Cambridgeshire County Council needs to consider such as whether the scheme is successful, whether young people have used it and most importantly for us whether the money should be used to continue this scheme or whether it is better used to support young people in other ways.

At this point there are many busy people like myself writing reports about the scheme, talking to young people about the pilot and presenting the results to the Elected Members (the people your parents or carers vote for to run the council). We will be making a decision on the g2g Card later this year and will let you know what is happening in the next edition of Got-2-Gossip.

Is there anything you can do? Talk to your Connexions or Youth Worker about your money and do some activities!
