IN MUSICA E PAROLE: GLI INNI NAZIONALI NELLA DOTTRINA DELLO STATO MODERNO di Matteo Carrer, Ricercatore RTDB in Diritto pubblico nell’Università degli Studi di Bergamo The article is about the role of national anthem in modern States. It compasses the evolution of various anthems considering the so called musical “teoria degli affetti” and the meaning of the text. A specific focus is about the italian National anthem, comparing the fierce battle music and the old style text it with the principles of the Italian Constitution. In Italy three Regions have an official anthem and they are analyzed too. Sommario: 1. Funzione, origine e giuridicità degli inni nazionali. – 2. Inni e legge: breve rassegna di casi. – 3. L’inno nazionale in Italia. – 3.1. Gli inni regionali. – 4. Kirsten Kearney Submitted for the award of Doctor of Philosophy School of Languages, Cultures and Religions • German University of Stirling January 2007 CH •X ANG DF E P w Click to buy NOW! w m o w c .d k. ocu•trac ii Abstract This thesis focuses on the importance of the ballad in constructing national identity in Germany during the 20th century from 1918•1978. It presents a comparative approach using Scotland as a comparator, based on three significant time periods throughout the century: the Weimar Republic, the Nazi era and the German folk revival. In each of these eras the issue of national awareness was most in evidence and national identity was being created or was a particular object of tension. The modern Scottish literary renaissance and the Scottish folk revival will be used for comparative purposes. The comparative approach will also aid a deeper understanding of the concept of national identity itself. The hypothesis is that the ballad has contributed to the development of national identity in specific and differing ways in the two countries. Selected artists; poets, singers and Liedermacher have been chosen as representatives for each particular stage. The ballad in the 20th century has previously received little critical attention, thus this period has been chosen as the time frame of the thesis in an attempt to redress this balance and create new knowledge.

COMPLETE NATIONAL ANTHEMS OF THE WORLD: 2013 EDITION ORCHESTRATED BY PETER BREINER SLOVAK RADIO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA • SLOVAK STATE PHILHARMONIC, KOŠICE* PETER BREINER, CONDUCTOR When I started arranging and recording national anthems some 17 years ago, nobody expected the project would become so big and popular. In the meantime, it has been an important part of two Summer Olympics and numerous other sporting, cultural and social events. It’s hard to imagine the amount of time and work that has been invested into this endeavour, and it could not have been done without the incredible efforts and expertise of several anthem experts, all the musicians, but mainly without the extraordinary recording team that has been involved in this project from its beginning – sound engineer Otto Nopp and Ladislav Krajcovic. This is an extraordinary project and any other existing anthem collection does not come close, in completeness, quality of the research or the size of the orchestral forces used. Every time this album is updated and released, the reactions are always overwhelming - from uncountable press articles and radio/TV shows all the way to special archbishops’ blessings. I hope this latest version, with its unprecedented number of anthems, will be no less appreciated. Peter Breiner National anthems tell the story of the country, its hopes, its dreams, its goals, its struggles and its history. To learn a country’s national anthem is to get a deeper knowledge of the country, and knowledge of other nations is the first step towards cooperation and understanding between peoples. National anthems, as we know them today, started in Europe as praises to the ruler.

DOSBARTH 3/4M ACTIVITIES Monday 8th February 2021 Our Topic this week is: America! English: Each country has their own National Anthem. Can you remember the National Anthem for Wales? The Welsh National Anthem is called Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau (Land of My Fathers). England’s National Anthem is called God Save the Queen, Scotland’s National Anthem is called Flower of Scotland and the Irish National Anthem is called Amhrán na bhFiann (The Soldier’s Song). The National Anthem for the United States of America is called The Star Spangled Banner. It was written by Francis Scott Key during the war of 1812. After a heavy night of bombing, Mr. Key could still see the American flag waving among the debris and this inspired him to write the song about the flag, which has a stars and stripes design. If you would like to listen to America’s National Anthem, you can watch this YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPKp29Luryc Here are the lyrics to the National Anthem of America: Can you write down the words that rhyme with each other?
