    Khazar Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences Volume 23 № 1 2020, 22-47 © Khazar University Press 2020 DOI: 10.5782/2223-2621.2020.23.1.22 Alchemy in Eastern Literature Hamlet Isakhanli Khazar University, Baku, Azerbaijan [email protected] Abstract Alchemy, developing in Ancient Egypt and its environs, was formed during the Islamic age as the branch of science and technology. The transmutation of base metals into noble metals and attempts to achieve immortality or rejuvenation by elixir or philosopher`s stone have been expansively reflected in Eastern literature and folklore. This research discusses the endeavors of great rulers of the ancient East, alchemists of the pre-Islamic and, especially, Islamic periods, and prominent writers of the Islamic Golden Age and contemporary period who wrote various treatises devoted or related to alchemy and alchemists. Discussions here include the great Sumerian epic “Gilgamesh” and the legend of Alexander the Great’s attempt to gain immortality, as well as the story of alchemist Mary of Copt. The last two are related in a poem by Nizami, prominent representative of the twelfth century Azerbaijani literary school that wrote in Persian. Distinct images of alchemy were rendered in his poems, moreover, he created multi-faceted alchemical metaphors to describe transformations within humanity. Khagani Shirvani, Nizami’s contemporary, and nineteenth century Azerbaijani thinker Mirza Akhundov, also addressed the topic of alchemy, as well as religious mysticism in Islam and alchemy. Alchemical episodes in the works of great figures of Eastern Sufi literature like Al-Ghazali, Suhrawardy, Ibn Arabi and Rumi have been scrutinized.     Şah İsmail’in Annesi Alemşah Begüm: Efsaneler ve Gerçekler ŞAH İSMAİL HATÂÎ’NİN ANNESİ ALEMŞAH BEGÜM: EFSANELER VE GERÇEKLER Shah Ismail’s Mother Alamshah Begum: Legends and Realities Alemşah Begüm, Die Mutter Von Schah İsmail Hatâî: Legenden Und Wahrheit Über Sie Namiq Musali* DOI: 10.12973/abked.81.003 Yedi Ulu Ozan’dan biri olarak kabul gören Şah İsmail Hatâî’nin annesi Alemşah Begüm, Azerbaycan Orta Çağ tarihinde önemli role sahip olan bir kadındır. Babası tarafından Akkoyunlu hanedanına, annesi tarafından ise Trabzon Rum imparatorları nesline mensup olan bu kadın, Erdebil Tekkesi’nin mürşidi Şeyh Haydar’la evlenerek, üç oğul ve üç kız çocuk doğurmuştur. Küçük oğlu İsmail sonradan taht ve taç sahibi olmuş ve Azerbaycan merkezli Safevî Devleti’ni kurmuştur. Alemşah Begüm bu süreçte oğluna tam destek vermiş, Şah İsmail de kendi şiirlerinde annesini sevgiyle anarak, onu Hz. Fâtıma’ya benzetmiştir. Safevî tarihçileri her zaman Alemşah Begüm’den büyük bir saygıyla söz etmişlerdir. Fakat özellikle son yıllarda yayınlanmış olan bazı romanlarda, köşe yazılarında ve popüler tarih niteliğindeki eserlerde Şah İsmail’in 1501 ÖZ yılında Tebriz’i aldıktan sonra annesini öldürdüğü iddia edilmektedir. Bu iddiaların kaynağı olarak o dönemde Azerbaycan’da bulunan Venediklilerin seyahatnameleri esas alınmaktadır. Oysaki Venedik elçisi Caterino Zeno’nun seyahatnamesinde Şah İsmail’in kendi öz annesini değil, üvey annesini öldürdüğü açık bir şekilde belirtilmiştir. Ama bu eserin Türkçe tercümesinde “üvey anne” yerine yanlışlıkla sadece “anne” yazılmış ve bu hata, Şah İsmail’i karalamak isteyenler için “ilham kaynağı” olmuştur. * Doç. Paul Koerbin ii ABSTRACT The lyric songs of Turkish oral tradition broadly understood by the term deyiş provide one of the richest perspectives on the historical construction, communal perceptions and creative impetus of Turkish Alevi culture. One of the most evident defining characteristics of the deyiş is the convention in which the poetic persona to which the lyric is attributed, known as the mahlas, is incorporated in the final verse. While this convention is ubiquitous in this lyric form it has received little scholarly attention particularly in regards to is role in expressive culture. This study approaches Alevi expressive culture by means of focusing on the interpretive force of the mahlas. The theoretical basis for this study is the tripartite model proposed for ethnomusicological study by Timothy Rice in 1987, by which musical experience may be understood as being historically constructed, socially maintained and individually applied. In applying this model my study pursues an interpretive approach both in terms of identifying interpretive practice and in suggesting interpretive perspectives. This approach follows Paul Ricoeur's hermeneutical perspective as an encounter that seeks not to understand the inner experience of people of another culture, but rather to understand the world that is suggested by music sounds, performance and contexts.

    Hatâyî’nin Nasihatnâmesi HATÂYÎ’NİN NASİHATNÂMESİ Hatayi’s Nasihatname Das Nasihatnâme des Hatâyî Hasan BEKTAŞ * Klasik edebiyatta bir konu üzerinde öğüt vermek amacıyla yazılmış ahlaki-didaktik eserlere nasihatnâme yahut pendnâme denir. Bu türden eserlerden biri de Hatâyî’nin yazmış olduğu Nasihatnâme’dir. Hatâyî Divanı ile beraber Şeyh Safî Buyruklarında, Anadolu’da derlenen şiir mecmualarında, tarikat usullerini anlatan erkânnamelerde de sıkça kaydedilen bu eser; Ca’ferîlik, vahdet-i vücut ve Safevîlik (Kızılbaşlık) hakkında dervişlere verilen nasihatlerden ibaret olup tevhit, nübüvvet, imâmet, nasihat ve dua bahislerinden oluşur. Döneminde önemli eserler vermiş ve çığır açmış olan Hatâyî, Alevî- Bektaşî edebiyatına damgasını vurmuş bu edebi çevrenin yedi büyük şairinden biri olarak kabul edilmiştir. Hatâyî, kısa süren yaşamı boyunca, vaktinin çoğunu devlet işlerine sarf etmesine bakmayarak zengin ve çok ÖZ yönlü bir miras yaratmıştır. O hem aruz vezni hem de hece vezniyle, hem epik hem de lirik türlerde eser vermiş, akılda kalan, örnek olabilen eserleri ile edebiyatımızı zenginleştirmiştir. Onun edebiyat ve dil tarihinde oynadığı rol, Azerbaycan devletçiliğinin tarihinde oynadığı rol kadar önemlidir. Huseynov Khazar University, Baku, Azerbaijan National Museum of Literature named after Nizami, ANAS, Baku, Azerbaijan Introduction The great Azerbaijani poet and philosopher Nizami Ganjavi has towered across the borders of his nation as well as his works have valued beyond the wealth of a single nation and belongs to spiritual treasure of humanity. One of the definitions of Ganja, the city in historical Arran (the second city of the present-day Republic of Azerbaijan), where Nizami was born (1141) and died (1209), which he has not basically abandoned according to medieval sources, is “treasure”. In the world literature tresury Nizami’s heritage stands on the top of wealth and enternal value. In his lifetime, Nizami Ganjavi believed that his works would live for a long time and wrote the following: If you wonder after 100 years where he is, Its every couplet will respond: “He is here”.1 Not 100, but 800 years have passed, and Nizami’s longevity has surpassed his own prediction, and his path leads to eternity.
