Begleitet wird die Vorführung von dem eigens für den Film von Olga Neuwirth komponierten Soundtrack, live interpretiert von den Israel Contemporary Players. The expressionist silent film masterpiece "The City without Jews" by Hans Karl Breslauer will be shown in a newly reconstructed version after digital restoration work by the FILMARCHIV AUSTRIA in the Cinematheque Tel Aviv. Mit Hilfe österreichischer Mitstreiter gelang es ihm, hunderten Menschen das Leben zu retten. Julius Madritsch und seine österreichischen Helfer Raimund Titsch und Oswald Bouska wurden im Jahr 1964 mit der Medaille „Gerechter unter den Völkern“ von Yad Vashem geehrt. Der Regisseur Piotr Szalsza wird an beiden Abenden anwesend sein. The film "Julius Madritsch - A Righteous among the Nations", directed by Piotr Szalsza portrays the life story of Austrian businessman Julius Madritsch, who employed approximately a thousand Jews in his sewing factories in Poland from 1940 to 1944. With support by his Austrian fellows Raimund Titsch and Oswald Bouska he managed to save the lives of hundreds of people. Mal statt. Das Hauptkonzert wird am 31.01. im Konservatorium Tel Aviv stattfinden. Die Schubertiade begann als Privatinitiative mit einem einzigen Konzert in Tel Aviv im Jahre 2007 und wurde im Laufe der Jahre zu einem bekannten und beliebten Ereignis unter MusikliebhaberInnen. Auch dieses Jahr sind wieder bekannte israelische und internationale MusikerInnen mit dabei. Im Fokus der diesjährigen Schubertiade steht das weltbekannte "Forellenquintett", das vor genau 200 Jahren komponiert wurde. Die Konzerte finden in ganz Israel statt. The Israeli Schubertiade, initiated and directed by Dr. Raz Kohn, has already become a tradition around Franz Schubert's birthday and is taking place this year for the 13th time. The principal concert is scheduled for 31 January at the Conservatory in Tel Aviv. The Schubertiade began as a private initiative with a single concert in Tel Aviv in 2007, and in the run of the years has become a well-known and popular event among music lovers. Established Israeli and international musicians will again be on stage at this year's edition, which focuses on the world-famous "trout quartet", which was composed 200 years ago. Dvora Barzilai, Viennese artist with Israeli roots, exhibits for the first time in Tel Aviv. Stein SOUVENIRS OF CONQUEST: ISRAELI OCCUPATIONS AS TOURIST EVENTS It is perhaps self-evident to suggest that military conquest shares something with tourism because both involve encounters with “strange” landscapes and people. Thus it may not surprise that the former sometimes borrows rhetorical strategies from the latter— strategies for rendering the strange familiar or for translating threatening images into benign ones. There have been numerous studies of this history of borrowing. Scholars have considered how scenes of battle draw tourist crowds, how soldiers’ ways of seeing can resemble those of leisure travelers, how televised wars have been visually structured as tourist events (e.g., the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq), and how the spoils of war can function as a body of souvenirs.1 These lines of inquiry expand our understanding of tourism as a field of cultural practices and help us to rethink the parameters of militarism and warfare by suggesting ways they are entangled with everyday leisure practices. This paper considers the ways this entanglement functions in the Israeli case. To be more specific, I am interested in the workings of Israeli tourist practices and discourses during two key moments of Israeli military engagement: the 1967 war and subsequent onset of the Israeli military occupation and the 1982 Israeli invasion of Lebanon. My analysis in both instances focuses on a reading of popular Israeli Hebrew and English- language print media,2 with attention to the ways that Israeli newspapers represented the incursion, occupation, and/or conquest to Israeli publics in the immediate aftermath of the wartime victory (1967) and invasion (1982).

    1967-2017: 50 Years | A leader’s guide This year we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Six-Day War and the liberation of Jerusalem. For some – both citizens of the State of Israel and Jews around the world – this date is celebrated as the exciting reunification of Jerusalem, the capital of Israel. For other segments of the population, however, it is a moment signifying the start of the occupation of Palestinians. This Jubilee of this event offers an opportunity to delve into questions of boundaries, holiness, power and its limitations, democracy, and the status of Jerusalem as a whole. Images serve as an educational aid: Images are a visual and expressive tool that integrate well with educational activities. They can serve as a means to launch or present a topic, as the basis for a thinking exercise, for a discussion, a processing session or summary of a topic. Such images can present contemporary reality or historical evidence. They can illustrate a variety of opinions, activities, and expressions of daily life from perspectives that often go unexamined. An explanation of each image in the kit can be found below. 1 Jerusalem of Gold - Lyrics and Music by Naomi Shemer. Original performance, Shuli Natan. The song was commissioned by Teddy Kollek, the mayor of Jerusalem, in advance of the Israeli Song Festival in 1967. The title of the song is based on the name of a piece of jewelry on which Jerusalem of Gold is painted. According to tradition, this piece was given by the rabbinic sage, Rabbi Akiva, to his wife Rachel in appreciation for having encouraged him to study Torah.

Having just fought a fierce two-day battle in the streets ofeast Jerusalem, they grieved for lost friends, and grieved as well for their own lost innocence in what for many was their first experience of combat. ey leaned against the Wall, some in exhaustion, some in prayer. Several wept, instinctively connecting to the Wall’s tradition of mourning the destruction of the Temple and the loss of Jewish sovereignty—precisely at the moment when Jewish sovereignty over Jerusalem had been restored. Several hours later, Yitzhak Yifat, a twenty-four-year-old reservist about to begin medical school, reached the Wall. As part of the brigade’s 66th Battalion, he and his friends had fought in the Six Day War’s toughest bat- tle: Intimate combat against elite Jordanian Legionnaires in the trenches of Ammunition Hill, on the road to Mount Scopus. Something in their faces—perhaps a combination of exhaustion and uplift—caught the eye of news photographer David Rubinger.
