"The City without Jews" Screening with Live Musical Accompaniment (5.01.,Tel Aviv)

Das expressionistische Stummfilm- Meisterwerk "Die Stadt ohne Juden" von Regisseur Hans Karl Breslauer wird in einer neu rekonstruierten Fassung nach umfassenden digitalen Restaurierungsarbeiten durch das FILMARCHIV AUSTRIA erstmals in der Cinemathek Tel Aviv gezeigt werden. Begleitet wird die Vorführung von dem eigens für den Film von Olga Neuwirth komponierten Soundtrack, live interpretiert von den Israel Contemporary Players.

The expressionist silent film masterpiece "The City without Jews" by Hans Karl Breslauer will be shown in a newly reconstructed version after digital restoration work by the FILMARCHIV AUSTRIA in the Cinematheque Tel Aviv. The screening will be accompanied by a soundtrack specially composed for the film by Olga Neuwirth, interpreted live by the Israel Contemporary Players.

Screenings of "Julius Madritsch - A Righteous among the Nations" in presence of filmmaker Piotr Szalsza (28.01., Tel Aviv; 29.01., Jerusalem)

Der Film "Julius Madritsch - ein Gerechter unter den Völkern" unter der Regie von Piotr Szalsza porträtiert die Lebensgeschichte des Wieners Julius Madritsch, der zwischen 1940 und 1944 in seinen Textilbetrieben im besetzten Polen an die tausend Juden beschäftigte. Mit Hilfe österreichischer Mitstreiter gelang es ihm, hunderten Menschen das Leben zu retten. Julius Madritsch und seine österreichischen Helfer Raimund Titsch und Oswald Bouska wurden im Jahr 1964 mit der Medaille „Gerechter unter den Völkern“ von Yad Vashem geehrt. Der Regisseur Piotr Szalsza wird an beiden Abenden anwesend sein.

The film "Julius Madritsch - A Righteous among the Nations", directed by Piotr Szalsza portrays the life story of Austrian businessman Julius Madritsch, who employed approximately a thousand Jews in his sewing factories in Poland from 1940 to 1944. With support by his Austrian fellows Raimund Titsch and Oswald Bouska he managed to save the lives of hundreds of people. Die von Dr. Raz Kohn initiierte und geleitete israelische Schubertiade rund um Franz Schuberts Geburtstag ist bereits zur Tradition geworden und findet dieses Jahr zum 13. Mal statt. Das Hauptkonzert wird am 31.01. im Konservatorium Tel Aviv stattfinden. Die Schubertiade begann als Privatinitiative mit einem einzigen Konzert in Tel Aviv im Jahre 2007 und wurde im Laufe der Jahre zu einem bekannten und beliebten Ereignis unter MusikliebhaberInnen. Auch dieses Jahr sind wieder bekannte israelische und internationale MusikerInnen mit dabei. Im Fokus der diesjährigen Schubertiade steht das weltbekannte "Forellenquintett", das vor genau 200 Jahren komponiert wurde. Die Konzerte finden in ganz Israel statt.

The Israeli Schubertiade, initiated and directed by Dr. Raz Kohn, has already become a tradition around Franz Schubert's birthday and is taking place this year for the 13th time. The principal concert is scheduled for 31 January at the Conservatory in Tel Aviv. The Schubertiade began as a private initiative with a single concert in Tel Aviv in 2007, and in the run of the years has become a well-known and popular event among music lovers. Established Israeli and international musicians will again be on stage at this year's edition, which focuses on the world-famous "trout quartet", which was composed 200 years ago. The concerts will be scattered all over Israel.

Die Wiener Künstlerin mit israelischen Wurzeln, Dvora Barzilai, stellt erstmals in Tel Aviv aus. Ihr Zyklus Shoah, in dem sie sich mit ihrer Familiengeschichte auseinandersetzt, und einige darauf bezogene Werke sind im Club der Österreicher zu sehen.

Dvora Barzilai, Viennese artist with Israeli roots, exhibits for the first time in Tel Aviv. Her cycle "Shoah" in which she deals with her family history, as well as some related works, will be on display at the Club of the Austrians.

דבורה ברזילי, אומנית ווינאית בעלת שורשים ישראליים, מציגה לראשונה בתל אביב. הסדרה שלה ''שואה'',העוסקת בסיפור המשפחתי שלה, וכמה מוצגות נוספות שלה מוצגת במועדון גמלאי אוסטריה בתל אביב.

Der aus Wien stammende Israel-Preisträger David Rubinger, der letztes Jahr verstorben ist, war einer von wenigen Fotografen, die mit ihren Arbeiten lokal wie international im kollektiven Gedächtnis fest verankert sind. Die Ausstellung "I Captured the Truth, 1947 - 1997" des Eretz Israel Museums ist eine Reise in das Gedächtnis von Rubinger, der uns entscheidende historische Momente und Orte vermittelt hat.

Israel Prize laureate David Rubinger, who was born in Vienna and died last year, was one of a small selected group of photographers whose works are etched on local and international memory. The exhibition "I Captured the Truth, 1947 - 1997" at the Eretz Israel Museum is a journey into the memory of Rubinger who communicated - between history and us - decisive moments and places.
