Upon arrival at ILSC, you will receive academic counselling to assess your English level and discuss your career and educational aspirations. Based on your level, needs and interests, you and your counsellor will create a study schedule to meet your personal objectives. Each month, your teacher will assess your progress to ensure success. With the language and study skills you gain through the University Pathway Program, you will have a strong foundation for achieving success in a post-secondary program. What does the University Pathway Program offer YOU? NO TOEFL Direct transfer to our partner institutions upon successful OR completion of the University Pathway Program IELTS! Preparation for academic success FREE Academic Counselling in a college, TAFE or university, including: Support with researching program options English preparation and necessary post-secondary skills Support processing school applications preparation, such as lecture comprehension, note-taking, Follow up with the partner school research skills, academic discussion skills. Using an interpretative approach, the research sought to determine the relevance of the counsellors as a potentially influencing factor in the students‘ post-secondary program choices. The ability of First Nation education counsellors to be influential is a consequence of their role since they administer Post- Secondary Student Support Program (PSSSP) funding. A report evaluating the program completed by Indian and Northern Affairs Canada in 2005 found that many First Nation students would not have been able to achieve post-secondary educational levels without PSSSP support. Eight self-selected First Nation Education counsellors and twenty-nine First Nation post- secondary students participated in paper surveys, and five students and one counsellor agreed to complete a follow-up interview. The quantitative and qualitative results revealed differences in the perceptions of the two survey groups as to whether First Nation education counsellors influenced students‘ post-secondary program choices.

Purpose George Brown College (referred to herein as “GBC” or the “College”) aspires to attain the highest standards of integrity in scholarly research for its faculty, staff and students. While GBC begins from the premise that all members of the College community are committed both individually and institutionally to integrity in scholarly activity, this policy has been developed to address any concerns about responsibility and accountability in research and scholarship. In addition to adherence to College policies, all research conducted by members of the College community must follow the responsibilities and corresponding policies for researchers, Institutions, and the Agencies contained in the Tri-Agency Framework: Responsible Conduct of Research. The Framework officially launched on Dec 5, 2011, is an umbrella document that describes Tri-Agency policies and requirements related to applying for and managing Agency funds, performing research and disseminating results. It also outlines the process that institutions and Agencies follow in the event of an allegation of a breach of Agency policy. 2. Scope 2.1. This policy applies to all full-time and part-time faculty of the College and any person who teaches, conducts research, or works at or under the auspices of the College. Students participating in scholarly research at the College will also be subject to this policy. It applies equally to all research projects, led either by the College or by other institutions, in which GBC personnel or students are participants. 2.2. At this time, GBC does not plan on engaging in research that would involve biohazardous materials.
