XL had pretty bad history as long as we are talking about past Sigur Ros releases Usanner Sound quality is pretty good, not great though.First record is NOT flat at all. Your needle and cartridge are in for a ride. Not unplayable, but if you have your cart set at a very light weight, it could go flying. Gagas Sounds great! Better then some of the XL stuff. Heavy vinyl too. Super P My copy definitely has various noises. Is it awful? Not terribly. But it certainly isn't a 'great' pressing. In general it doesn't interrupt the majority of the music (this is a pretty 'busy' Sigur Ros record) but in quiet passages it can be heard. Livable but disappointing for sure.... Drelalen Has some surface noise for sure... All in all though not bad. Vinainl All in all better then Valtari and Inni but there is still a lot to be desired. Side B ist very noisy on my copy, probably because of the 10"-insert as the others already mentioned. net rider Sound quality is good, although with small amounts of surface noise that can be distinguished from the source distorted instruments. It does appear to play louder than comparable vinyl albums in my collection. Regarding the packaging, the 1st disc was indented. Likely from being smashed in the gatefold with the 10", as only 1 side (Side B) suffers this dish warp. The needle has a hard time when initial tracking song bc of this. All in all not bad. Sarin schrodinger_catHow is the quality of vinyl? XL had pretty bad history as long as we are talking about past Sigur Ros releasesPersonally, I think that it's really strong. (Muddying the waters is the fact that there is inherent distortion in several tracks, particularly "Brennisteinn," but if you've heard the digital versions, you already know what to expect. It's just a little more difficult to decipher surface noise because of that.) Even if you really favor heavy bass, the highs/mids are very crisp and sweet. It feels immersive, 'big' in scope, which is how it should sound. Hope that helps. On a separate note, I was disappointed with how my album was packaged--because it was sealed and shipped appropriately, it wasn't the fault of the distributer, so I am curious to see if anyone else has any issues with this. One immediate flaw was that the sleeve is relatively flimsy and the vinyl caused a permanent indent. Related Music albums to Kveikur by Sigur Rós Sigur Rós - Takk... The song— ecomusicology; ecocriticism; and its accompanying music video—features musical, lyrical, and audiovisual means of popular music; Iceland registering the turbulence of living in volcanic landscapes. My analysis of Sigur Rós’s music opens up a window into an Icelandic cultural history of inhabiting a risky Earth, a condition captured by anthropologist Gísli Pálsson’s concept of geosociality, which emerged from his ethnography in communities living with volcanoes.

  • Embodied Listening and the Music of Sigur Rós Peter Elsdon
Embodied listening and the music of Sigur Rós Peter Elsdon Introduction In 1990 Susan McClary and Robert Walser appealed for a musicology which could account for the effects of rock, or as they put it: ‘a greater willingness to try to circumscribe an effect metaphorically, to bring one’s own experience as a human being to bear in unpacking musical gestures, to try to parallel in words something of how the music feels’ (McClary and Walser 1990, 288-9). McClary and Walser were arguing for attempts to validate ‘physically and emotionally oriented responses to music’ (287), which they saw as crucial to any understanding of rock, but uncomfortable modes of response for musicology to deal with. Around the time of the McClary/Walser article, musicologists were questioning the body’s exclusion from discourse, and theorising ways in which it might be better integrated into musicological thought (Leppert 1993, Walser 1991). Since that time much scholarly work has been produced which interrogates the role of the body in musicking, work represented for instance by an examination of the idea of gesture (Gritten and King 2006, Davidson 1993). The bodies under examination in this discourse have been those of performers, but increasing attention is being focused on how performers experience the production of music. Fred Everett Maus has recently termed this approach an ‘analytical somaesthetics’, following Richard Shusterman (Maus 2010). This article uses facets of embodiment theory to interrogate the music of Icelandic band Sigur Rós, a group who seem to affect audience and critics alike in a way that is highly unusual for rock music.
