as I got out of the hospital after my single night there, I straight back to work. There was no way I was going to drive over to Albany. The literature says no TV and certainly no work. If you read about the baseball and football players who have experienced concussions, you’ll see that it can take a long, long time to recover. Sometimes it’s weeks or months or even years. The usual symptoms are headaches, double vision and in my case, lingering vertigo. When things are bad your CAT scan will show blood in or around the brain. When that happens the neurosurgeons sometimes have to operate. In my case, no blood. My problem is, I love my work. As we roll into August, we continue offering live broadcasts from Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. and on Sundays at 2:30 p.m. We have a variety of pieces to note from Dvorak’s Violin Concerto on Friday, August 2nd, Brahms’ Symphony No.1 on Saturday, August 10th to Shumann’s Cello Concerto on Sunday, August 18th. Don’t miss Beethoven’s Romance No. 1 and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3 Saturday, August 3rd. The Tanglewood season will come to an end Sunday, August 25th.

This month on The Academic Minute we’ll feature two “theme weeks” to keep you abreast of what is happening in the academy and our world. First is Week, which starts August 12th. Topics will include Aristotle’s thoughts of vengeance, reactions to feminist cringe comedies and a timely segment on the anniversary of Hurricane Camille and its effect on the beginning stages of government-funded natural disaster relief.

On August 26th, we’ll go Back To School with a weeklong series on topics relevant to today’s students, teachers and institutions. Remedial math, student responses on how to make a school better and mixed-age students are among the topics. Keep track of all the happenings at academicminute.org and subscribe to our newsletter. On August 30th, we begin airing Reveal, a weekly, one-hour, Peabody Award-winning investigative reporting program from The Center for Investigative Reporting and PRX, hosted by Al Letson. Reveal will air Fridays at 8 p.m.
