Samer i to norske nyhetsmedier En undersøkelse av saker med samisk hovedfokus i Nordlys og Dagsrevyen i perioden 1970–2000 Arne Johansen Ijäs Forord Slutten av 1900-tallet var en særdeles begivenhetsrik tid i samisk historie i Norge. Forsøkene på å knekke den samiske kulturen led sitt endelige nederlag, og i stedet vokste det fram en moderne samisk nasjon. Begivenhetene og prosessene som førte fram til denne utviklingen har etter hvert blitt gjenstand for oppmerksomheten til flere forskere, særlig ved Universitetet i Tromsø. Historikere, arkeologer, antropologer, samfunnsvi- tere, jurister og språkforskere har studert og søkt å forklare det som har skjedd både ved hjelp av studier i fortiden og nåtiden. Nyhetsmedier har de siste 30–40 år fått en stadig breiere plass i samfunnet, og i forbindelse med samenes kamp for sin nasjon har de utvilsomt spilt en viktig rolle både som bremsekloss og pådriver i proses- sen. De nasjonale medienes plass i samisk historie mot slutten av forrige hundreår har ikke vært gjenstand for omfattende studier til nå, og denne framstillingen er et lite bidrag til å se hendelsene fra et medieperspektiv. Framstillingen vil kunne brukes av studenter og forskere i mediefag og historie som ønsker å se på minoritetenes situasjon i majoritetssamfunnet. Jeg vil takke Norges Forskningsråd som gav meg et 3-årig stipend til å forske på disse spørsmål. Jeg vil også takke ledelsen ved Samisk høgskole, som helt siden jeg ble ansatt ved skolen i 2004, har gitt meg anledning til å arbeide med prosjektet. Min veileder professor Henry Minde ved Universitetet i Tromsø har også vært til stor hjelp, og korrigert meg når det har båret galt av sted. -

First, I am grateful to the University of Tromsø that opened my path to an international academic milieu by admitting me to the Indigenous Master Programme where I met my classmates from all over the world, Saami professors with personal experience in the indigenous self-determination movement, and other researchers on indigenous issues. Moreover, the Centre for Sámi Studies played an active role in my educational process, by organising seminars (at Skibotn) and conferences (the Forum for Development Cooperation with Indigenous Studies), trips to Finnmark (Karasjok, Kautokeino, Alta) and to Kåfjord (Manndalen) and finally, funding my research project. SONG, POETRY AND IMAGES IN WRITING: SAMI LITERATURE1 Harald Gaski One of the most exciting developments in Sami cultural life in recent decades is the multimedia approach that many Sami artists have chosen for their creative expression. Going against recommendations that one ought to specialize in a single art form in order to perfect it, a number of the most prominent Sami artists have instead tried to combine several means of expression. It is, of course, possible to see this as a resistance against the tendency toward specialization that is found in western art, as opposed to a more holistic approach that is found in the art of indigenous peoples. This idea, however, does not furnish a complete explanation. For the tradition has its roots in Sami handicraft itself, that is, in functional art, which in the Sami language is called duodji. Within the duodji tradition, the most important criterion for judging an object‘s merit is its utilitarian value. Naturally, for a people and a culture that exist on the edge of human endurance in the Arctic north, objects’ usefulness is of great importance. Still, beauty such as that found in a finely crafted knife handle, a nicely sewn traditional piece of clothing, or a perfect yoik-song has always been valued. The yoik has invariably occupied a special place in the Sami consciousness because of its traditional role both as a mark of identity and, in the old religion, as the music of the shaman, noaidi, in Sami. It has also served as a means by which to remember loved ones. -

Låta er spilt I 444 timer, 33 minutter og 22 sekunder eller 9320 ganger? Norskandelen totalt i 2019 er på 35%? NRK P3 er den stasjonen med høyest norskandel i 2019. De spiller 49,2% norsk musikk, mens Radio Norges norskandel er 6,6%. MGP-låta «Spirit In The Sky” med Keiino er 26. mest spilte låta? «Fontena på Youngstorget» med Sondre Justad topper lista over mest spilte låt med norsk tekst? Nesten halvparten av låtene på topp 100 mest spilte låt er med norske hovedartister? 11 av de 25 mest spilte låtene på P4 i 2019 er med norsk hovedartist? Musikk fra Bergen o Kygo er mest spilte hovedartist i 2019 og Alan Walker følger tre plasser bak o Bergen Filharmoniske Orkester er 21. -

That they opened their homes and let me come in. I feel priviliged that I had the chance to meet all of them, including their families and that they allowed me to be part of their lives for some days. I also followed some of the women for years, it was important for me to keep the contact, be able to talk with them about the past and the present. Asking them to tell stories for me. To tell about their lives, like the moment that changed their life or the event they always are thinking about. Off course, they were also talking openly about their families, relatives and friends. Twenty years ago I was interviewing and mingling with 27 elder women. -

Settlements, graves, capture pit systems, ceramics, rock paintings and offer sites are all evidence of our ancestors living here. Small groups migrated and settled along the coasts, surviving as skilled hunters, gatherers and fishers. The first written documents about the Sami date back to 98 AC, when a Roman historian writes tales of a hunting people to the north who dress in furs and live in harmony with nature.
