In just over three decades, Kripa has grown into the largest non-governmental organization in India helping people suffering from chemical dependency and HIV infection. Kripa Foundation is the largest Non–Governmental Secular and Indian Organization, under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment Govt. of India, helping people afflicted and affected from Chemical Dependency and HIV Infection. Kripa Foundation offers a non-discriminating, supportive Community Living, helping people to introspect and bring about change in lifestyle. Kripa Foundation highlights the need to study risk perception, effectively assist in harm minimization and trains the affected individuals to monitor life as an ongoing process of Spiritual Growth. The Organization began in Bandra in 1981. Since then this Public Charitable Trust has grown to 75 facilities in 12 States in India, namely Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, West Bengal, Assam, Gujarat, Delhi, U.P. and Rajasthan, of which the Treatment cum Rehabilitation Centres in Mumbai, Goa, Imphal, Kohima and Shillong are aided through Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJE), Government of India grants. National and International Donors aid the remaining centres. The thrust is on helping people to introspect and bring about change in lifestyle. This philosophy has awarded Kripa with tremendous experience in behavioral modeling and interventions in vulnerable populations. Kripa’s work in the field of HIV/AIDS started off in 1990 when it first reached out to drug addicts incarcerated in the Central Jail at Manipur. These addicts were forcibly thrown into prison by their parents and were leading a sub-human existence. In Nagaland too the Kripa Counseling Centre has an ongoing prison outreach programme carrying the message of hope and recovery. The link between substance abuse and HIV/AIDS has led us to conduct on September 11, 1995 a benchmark survey in Manipur, the first of its kind under the aegis of the Government of India/ U.N.D.C.P. Kripa later commissioned a 24/7 HIV / AIDS Helpline on December 5, 1995. This is
