Welcome to Our Lady of Lourdes Parish | 3 PentecostThirteenth Sunday Sunday in Ordinary Time May 20,July 2,2018 2017 Saints Cathy Pressimone, Pastoral Associate, Our Lady of Lourdes A look at members of the who have lived splendid lives in pursuit of a deep relationship with God.

Immaculate Conception During the month of May, we take time to honor Mary, the Mother of God, with processions, hymns and flowers on the head and at the feet of Marian statues. In our veneration of the Blessed Mother, we pay attention to the direction that Jesus gave on the Cross. ‘When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved he said to his mother “Woman, behold your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold your mother.” And from that hour, the disciple took her into his home.’ Jn 19:26 -27. When we turn to Mary, in prayer or in song, with celebrations and processions, we take her into our hearts and our homes. She then gently encourages us to turn to look to her Son. All of the stories that surround Mary on these days involve her inviting us to come to her Son. Our Lady of Lourdes School These stories are preserved in the many feast days on which we celebrate the Mother of God; from the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes to the Feast of Immaculate Conception. 2018-2019 Tuition Rates The celebration of this Holy Day of Obligation refers to the Blessed Virgin Mary’s - One Child: $ 5,950.00 conception not, as is a common misunderstanding, Mary’s conception of Jesus; that is celebrated on March 25 - the feast of the Annunciation, when the angel appeared to Mary Two Children: $11,000.00 to ask if she would be the mother of Jesus. Traditionally, Mary’s birthday is remembered Three Children: $14,800.00 on September 8. The Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the day on which Christians East and West commemorate the birth of Mary, the Mother of God, was

Four Children: $17,300.00 celebrated as early as the sixth century. December 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Five Children: $19,500.00 Conception, is 9 months before September 8. The title, Immaculate Conception, refers to the fact that Mary was conceived without Original Sin. According to CatholicSaints.info: This was a singular privilege and grace of God, granted in view of the merits of Jesus Christ. Mary’s immaculate conception means that from the moment her soul was created and infused into her body, it was free from original sin and filled with sanctifying grace. Her soul was never stained by original sin, nor by the depraved emotions, passions, and weaknesses consequent on that sin, but created in a state of original sanctity, innocence, and justice. She had at least the graces of the first Eve before the Fall and more. This privilege was befitting the one who was to be mother of the Redeemer. Like us in all things but sin, Mary is our one proud boast; like Mary, we too, can say “Yes!” to God.

A message from our pastor, Msgr. Richard E. Hanneke

Dear All, In the Gospel on this Feast of Pentecost we are told Jesus appeared to the frightened disciples gathered in the upper room and said, “Peace be with you.” When He said this He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” No longer were there barriers to God entering into the lives and hearts of all people. Once again, the very life -breath of God was breathed into the lives of His followers/ believers animating them to live in the Spirit and do the will of the Father. This particular image always takes me back to the story of Creation. The man and the woman, fashioned from the clay of the earth, stood lifeless until God breathed into their nostrils and they came alive through the Holy Spirit. Just as God’s word spoken at the beginning of time brought forth all life. That same Word, Jesus Christ, Incarnate brings forth new life in us. Jesus told His disciples that when the Holy Spirit comes, you will understand all I have told you and you will accomplish all that I have commanded. This promise is to us as well. We are animated by the very life -breath of God, Who brings to completion the good work He has begun in us in Jesus Christ, Risen and Ascended into Heaven. Happy beginnings of the Church. Come Holy Spirit, enkindle in us the fire of your Love. This coming weekend, we remember those who have died in service to our nation. It is Memorial Day (formerly Decoration Day), which is a way of honoring those who have served to preserve our liberty and freedom. As we remember them I hope we also continue our prayers for a peaceful resolution to conflicts in our communities and world. Also on this weekend we are saying, “Let the Summer begin!” Welcome home to all of our college students and congratulations to all of our graduates. Let us pray we all have a safe and peaceful summer. Gratefully, Msgr.
