Biography

Awanwee Petchkongkaew who she is a lecturer at the Department of Food Science and Technology, Faculty of Science and Technology at the Thammasat University (Rangsit campus), Thailand. She did her undergraduate studies at the Thammasat University, where she graduated in the Food Science and Technology. She received a master degree in Environmental Sanitation at Faculty of Public Health. She also graduated the Doctoral degree in Food Technology and Ingenieries Microbienne et Enzimatique from Suranaree University of Technology, Thailand and ENSAT/INP Toulouse (FRANCE), respectively. Currently, Awanwee teaches in four courses: 1) Food Microbiology 2) Mycotoxin in Food and Feed 3.) Food Fungi and 4.) Food Allergen (using Active Learning technique; AL). Presently, Awanwee is also the Deputy Head of the Department in International Affairs. Regarding to her research experiences, Awanwee has more than 5 years-experiences in the biological degradation and biological control of mycotoxins using natural substance(s) and microorganism (especially Bacillus spp. and Lactic Acid Bacteria). Her research mainly focuses on Food Microbiology, Food Biotechnology, Food Safety, Mycotoxins (mycotoxins determination and their biological degradation techniques) and Food Allergen. Awanwee is one of the key researcher among not so many of them in Thailand who driven to solve the mycotoxins contamination situation. Few regional workshops (among ASEAN countries) on mycotoxins and its degradation strategies were “Lower Mekong Initiative (LMI) Frontiers of Science Education Symposium” 24-25 April 2017 Bangkok, Thailand

organized by her. Several reputations European Professor were invited as her keynote speakers. Awanwee was also invited from Nong Lam University (Ho Chi Minh, ) for giving lecture on Food Toxicology and Mycotoxins to Vietnamese students. Awanwee received several fellowships from national and international granting agency for her researches focusing on mycotoxins degradation. Awanwee has totally 20 poster presentations, 2 oral presentations, 4 conference proceedings, 3 publications in both national and international journal (with impact factor) and 2 submitted patent. One of her poster abstract in the title of "Bacillus spp., plant-derived Lactic Acid Bacteria and Shiitake extract as a novel promising biological prevention strategies for mycotoxins from South-East Asia" was selected and awarded from the ASEAN-EU STI days (Science, Technology and Innovation day) for the presentation in Paris. Moreover, one of her publication in the title of “Utilizing an LC-MS/MS based multi-biomarker approach to assess the mycotoxins exposure in the Bangkok metropolitan area and surrounding provinces” is also the first publication which study on mycotoxins human exposure in South East Asia. Awanwee had invited as a reviewer for many national scientific conferences and also international journal in the field of mycotoxins, food safety and food microbiology. Awanwee is the first Thai researcher who received the grant from Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS). Participating in Lower Mekong Initiative Frontiers of Science Educations Symposium and Networking Session for LMI Young Scientist Program, Awanwee see some opportunities where she can raise and elaborate the awareness and increase the knowledge of ASEAN people on mycotoxins and food safety issue which this quite lack in this region. This might increase the quality of life of ASEAN people. Therefore, Awanwee truly believe that this forum will be the great floor for networking, exchanging some teaching idea or techniques and also finding some research collaboration.
