The issue is larger than previous issues. It contains more articles and lots more collecting information for Club Members to read and enjoy. The next issue will be in December • • • For this issue, Jon Swartz, Member #1287, has written an extensive article on the Buck Rogers Big Little Books and the many collectibles that were produced during the heyday of the comic strip and radio program. The history of the character, which began in 1928, reveals that he has never fully lost his appeal to subsequent generations. The pictures of premiums that accompany the article are from Jon’s extensive collection of Buck Rogers ephemera. • • • Walt Needham, Member #1102, has been a popular contributor of BLT articles for nearly 20 years. His carefully researched articles provide details that most collectors don’t know about the characters in the Big Little Books. In this issue Walt takes us on a journey through the world of Jane Arden, one of the earliest comic strip characters who exemplified the changing role of women in the American Society. Although Jane appeared in just one BLB, her comic book life lasted for many decades – from 1927 through 1968.

Katedra mediálních studií. Vedoucí diplomové práce PhDr. Milan Kruml. Abstrakt Diplomová práce Obraz noviná ře nap říč komiksovou tvorbou se v ěnuje problematice komiksu jako média s potenciálem vytvá řet ur čité p ředstavy o spole čnosti. Cílem práce je vymezení typologie postav noviná řů zobrazovaných v komiksových dílech a následné zodpov ězení otázky, zdali tyto komiksové obrazy formují ustálené p ředstavy o noviná řské profesi. Abstract The thesis A Portrait of a Journalist throughout the Comic Book Production deals with comics as a medium with a potential to create certain ideas about society.

  • American Radio Collection, 1931-1972, Collection (S0256)
S0256 American Radio Collection, 1931-1972 Collection 256 514 Audio Tapes This collection is available at The State Historical Society of Missouri. If you would like more information, please contact us at [email protected]. This collection is stored off site. Please allow 3-5 business days for retrieval. The American Radio Collection was donated to WHMC by the Thomas Jefferson Library. All tapes are reel-to-reel. All programs listed in this inventory are alphabetized by the first letter of each program, except for articles. Programs titled by a performers name are alphabetized by the performer’s first name: e.g., Bob Hope, Jack Benny, Jimmy Durante, Bing Crosby, etc. Wherever possible, programs are headed with a brief comment on their nature and the years they were broadcast. Introduction to American Radio Collection, 1931-1972, Collection 256 The American Radio Collection, composed of 514 reel-to-reel tapes, is a valuable piece of American social and cultural history. Tapes in the collection cover the early years of commercial broadcast radio through its golden years to the decline of network radio in the early 1960s. Today commercial radio aims its programs at specific audiences, listeners with different interests in music, politics, religion, and sports. News, commentary, and call-in- shows try to win loyal audiences to this “niche programming,” as it is sometimes called. Today, broadcast radio rarely seeks to appeal to a broad audience of varying ages, genders, ethnicities, occupations, or geographic locations. Garrison Keillor’s Prairie Home Companionis a rare live broadcast aimed at a national audience but it attracts only a small audience, largely white and middle class.
