Hokkaido University Collection of Scholarly and Academic Papers : HUSCAP LIST OF COMMON NAMES OF ALGAE

Hikoei OHMI·

For many years I have been interested in collecting the common names of algae, and I have always noted them down ..In my previous lists (Ohmi, 1955a; 1955b; & 1961), the common names of algae were treated rather fragmentarily and not properly arranged as new ones were added from time to time. Mter the publication of the last list (Ohmi, 1961) many popular names have been accumulated in my notebook. Consequently this forms the fourth list of the series dealing with popular names of algae (ound in the literature. I am fully aware that this list is not at all complete. A new rearrangement, including the addition of a number of new names found in the recent literature has been done in the hope that it will be of some value to those who will refer .the common names of algae to the species fixed by their Latin names, as well as to their Japanese equivalents.

Summary This forms the fourth list of the series to deal with the common names of algae found in the literature. In this paper I have tried to put together the common names in alphabetical order with the addition of many newly found names in the recent literature which appeared after the publication of my third list.
