My Fraternal Brother in Christ,

First I would like to give thanks to God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit for the life and fellowship he has bestowed upon each and every one of us. Praise be to God!

As I officially begin the new term as your Grand Knight I would like to commend our Past Grand Knight, Sir Knight Roscoe Ellis for his faithful and dedicated service to our Council 9463. His invaluable service to us and to San Fernando Cathedral was a true blessing. Thank You Roscoe for your brotherhood to all of us and May the Blessings of Our Lord Jesus Christ be with you and Sylvia. Know that we are always here for you, Brother Knight.

I give thanks to my fellow Brothers for electing and believing in me to serve as your Grand Knight for the 2016-17 Fraternal Year. It is my honor to serve with each and every one of you Brother Knights of Council 9463.

I would like to welcome our new , the Very Reverend Victor Valdez who will become the Chaplain of our Council. Whenever you see him, please be sure to welcome him as a Brother Knight.

As we work together as a team of Catholic Gentlemen, we will move forward united in Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. We will do this “In service to one, in service to all” by embrac- ing the mission of our founder Fr. Michael J. McGivney, as our mission to continue our service to San Fernando Cathedral. We will bond as Brother Knights to build this Council in being the best in San Antonio.

I look forward to working side by side with each and every one of you and to welcome our fu- ture Brother Knights to this Council. May we continue in faith and prayer as we serve the Lord, our Council, the , our Priest, Deacons and San Fernando Cathedral.

May the Blessings of our Lord Jesus Christ be with each of you and your loved ones.

Welcome reverend Fr. Victor Valdez!

Father Victor Valdez was ordained to the priesthood on May 17, 2014, by Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS, at St. Anthony Mary Claret Church in San Antonio.

He was born on May 23, 1972, in Los Angeles, and grew up in that city. He spent his high school and college years in California, and worked in the pharmacy profession for 15 years.

“I believe that I am now well rooted in San Antonio,” Father Victor has said. “Though I was born in Los Angeles, my heart now belongs to San Antonio.”

Moving to Texas in 1995, he entered Assumption Seminary in 2007 following years of discernment. Fa- ther Victor earned a Master of Divinity Degree from Oblate School of Theology, and an STB, a bachelor’s degree in Sacred Theology, from St. Paul University in Ottawa, Canada.

His first assignment was as parochial vicar at St. Anthony Mary Claret Church, from July 1, 2014 to July 1, 2015. The pastor there, Father Jan Klak, was the instructor in Father Victor’s first class at Oblate School of Theology.

Last year, Father Victor was assigned as administrator of St. Ann Church in San Antonio, where parishion- ers hosted a mini-festival and appreciation dinner for him on his departure June 26.

He began his service as Rector of San Fernando Cathedral, the mother church of the Archdiocese of San Antonio, on July 1, 2016.

Father Victor has stated, “Life is about embarking on new journeys which God is constantly placing be- fore us.”

His favorite is St. Juan Diego, and his favorite Scripture verse is Jeremiah 1:4-5, known as the Call of Jeremiah: “The word of the Lord came to me, saying, ‘Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, be- fore you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.’”

Father Victor’s favorite season of the liturgical year is the Triduum of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Sunday, while his favorite hymn – among many – is The Servant Song.

He has four siblings; three brothers and a sister who lives in .
