Remuneration and Benefits for Archdiocesan Priests for Ministry Expenses Covered Under the Professional Allotment

Monsignor / Father: Enclosed with this letter is the Remuneration Policy FY2022 for active priests assigned in the Archdiocese of Boston and approved by His Eminence, Cardinal Sean P. O'Malley, OFM, Cap. Kindly note that the policy, enclosed with this letter, applies to incardinated priests and religious order priests serving in assignments by the Archbishop to parishes or archdiocesan institutions within the Archdiocese of Boston; it does not apply to senior priests, priests on health leave, or other priests of the Archdiocese who receive stipends and benefits from the Clergy Trust or other funds. The name of Clergy Benefits has changed to “Clergy Trust” throughout the policy. I encourage you to read the enclosed document in detail and save it for future reference. Remuneration payment schedules attached to the enclosed policy indicate the approved remuneration according to year of ordination for Archdiocesan priests participating in Social Security and for religious order priests in Archdiocesan assignments. All priests are encouraged to enroll in Social Security. Not participating in Social Security may prevent a priest from accumulating 40 quarters which is needed to qualify for Medicare A & B at age 65, thereby creating an increased burden on the Clergy Funds. Effective July 1, 2021, the base stipend for an Archdiocesan priest for fiscal year 2022 is $30,867 and the base stipend for a religious order priest in an Archdiocesan assignment is $28,390, reflecting a 0.3% increase, based on the Boston Consumer Price Index increase. The annual assessment for priest health and dental benefits for fiscal year 2022 will increase to $20,676 per year. -

Without discounting the value of consulting other editions, it was felt there was a real need to make this basic text fully available to all Claretians. The need seemed all the more pressing in view of the assessment of the General Chapter of 1973: "Although, on the one hand, the essential elements and rationale of our charism are sufficiently explicit and well defined in the declarations 'On the Charism of our Founder' and 'On the Spiritual Heritage of the Congregation' (1967), on the other hand, they do not seem to have been sufficiently assimilated personally or communitarily, or fully integrated into our life" (cf. RL, 7, a and b). Our Claretian family's inner need to become vitally aware of its own charism is a matter that concerns the whole Church. Pope Paul's motu proprio "Ecclesiae Sanctae" prescribes that "for the betterment of the Church itself, religious institutes should strive to achieve an authentic understanding of their original spirit, so that adhering to it faithfully in their decisions for adaptation, religious life may be purified of elements that are foreign to it and freed from whatever is outdated" (II, 16, 3). -

The poetry of troubadours, with its characteristic metric forms and themes – the most famous being naturally the concept of fin’amor, courtly love – belongs to the original, native works of the whole langue d’Oc area, meaning not only Occitania, but also the Crown of Aragon. The political domination of the counts of Barcelona, and later the kings of Catalan-Aragonese Crown in the region beyond the Pyrenees not only fa- cilitated the intermingling of cultures in this area. It also led to the creation of one, com- mon, Occitan-Catalan cultural environment, where the poets of Languedoc, Provence and Catalonia travelled between the noble courts and composed songs in the same style and language. Due to this it makes more historical sense to include their poetry not in the history of French literature, but Catalan literature that in the 14th century still used Occitan language, alien to the works of langue d’oïl. The same fact makes understand- able the claims of Catalan people regarding the separateness of their own culture from the culture of Castille, at least with regard to the Middle Ages. -

Claret speaks of hisA companions as those who have received the same spirit that encouraged him (cf. Aut 489). We are Claretians because we have also received that same spirit to proclaim the Gospel today. A closer contact with our Founder and with the history of the Congregation will help us fan the flames of our missionary spirit and find urgent, timely and effective ways to carry out our mission in the times in which we are living. Fidelity to our roots and openness to new realities, demand a fruitful relationship with the elder Claretians who walked before us. Pope Francis, addressing consecrated men and women, reminded us of the importance of this mutual relationship: For if the young are called to open new doors, the elderly hold the keys. An institute remains youthful by going back to its roots, by listening to its older members. -

A little bit about Mass stipends… Offering a stipend to a priest so that he will remember a particular intention of a member of the faithful is a longstanding custom in the Roman Catholic Church. All of the priests here at St. Monica are available for this and more than likely they are praying for someone’s particular intention every time they have a Mass. The stipend offering in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis is $10.00 and is intended to commit the priest to celebrating the Mass. The stipend is simply an offering; Masses can be offered free if the person desiring the intention is unable to offer any stipend. The intention for a Mass is mostly to pray for the repose of the soul of a person who has died, but can also be for a special intention or a private one. The stipend is offered for the priest to add this intention to his own personal intentions. A priest may have other intentions in addition to the one the stipend is offered for. Additionally, the priest does not have to know the person for whom the Mass is offered as long as he is celebrating the Mass according to the intention of the donor. There can be some confusion about how all this works at St. Monica, below are some guidelines to help you. If there are any questions don’t hesitate to call our office (317-253-2193, opt 2) and speak to one of our Administrative Assistants. Here are the guidelines: 1. Universal Church discipline as contained in the Code of Canon Law (Canons 945-958) of the 1983 Code of Canon Law is what regulates the offerings made for the celebration of Mass. -

Catalonian Architectural Identity
Catalan Identity as Expressed Through Architecture Devon G. Shifflett HIST 348-01: The History of Spain November 18, 2020 1 Catalonia (Catalunya) is an autonomous community in Spain with a unique culture and language developed over hundreds of years. This unique culture and language led to Catalans developing a concept of Catalan identity which encapsulates Catalonia’s history, cuisine, architecture, culture, and language. Catalan architects have developed distinctly Catalan styles of architecture to display Catalan identity in a public and physical setting; the resulting buildings serve as a physical embodiment of Catalan identity and signify spaces within Catalan cities as distinctly Catalonian. The major architectural movements that accomplish this are Modernisme, Noucentisme, and Postmodernism. These architectural movements have produced unique and beautiful buildings in Catalonia that serve as symbols for Catalan national unity. Catalonia’s long history, which spans thousands of years, contributes heavily to the development of Catalan identity and nationalism. Various Celtiberian tribes initially inhabited the region of Iberia that later became Catalonia.1 During the Second Punic War (218-201 BC), Rome began its conquest of the Iberian Peninsula, which was occupied by the Carthaginians and Celtiberians, and established significant colonies around the Pyrennees mountain range that eventually become Barcelona and Tarragona; it was during Roman rule that Christianity began to spread throughout Catalonia, which is an important facet of Catalan identity.2 Throughout the centuries following Roman rule, the Visigoths, Frankish, and Moorish peoples ruled Catalonia, with Moorish rule beginning to flounder in the tenth-century.3 Approximately the year 1060 marked the beginning of Catalan independence; throughout this period of independence, Catalonia was very prosperous and contributed heavily to the Reconquista.4 This period of independence did not last long, though, with Catalonia and Aragon's union beginning in 1 Thomas N.
