The Village has a diverse population of 3,649 residents (including Burns Lake Band and ) and serves a surrounding area of approximately 10, 000 residents in the Regional District of Bulkley- Nechako.

Surrounded by nature, there are numerous options for all recreational enthusiasts, a wide variety of hiking trails, canoeing and kayaking areas, and an abundance of lakes to fish or boat on are right outside your door. Burns Lake is also fortunate to have world class mountain bike trails, just 5 minutes from the Village center. In the winter, there are quality cross-country skiing trails and facilities that draw in competitors and recreational skiers from across the province. Snowshoe enthusiasts can follow in their tracks too. Additionally, Burns Lake is snowmobiler’s paradise, with vast wilderness trails near town.

The outlying areas around Burns Lake contain hundreds of lakes that consistently produce rainbow trout up to 15 pounds, Char (Lake Trout) up to 30 pounds, and a variety of other fish along with an abundance of wildlife. Most of the lakes are within easy driving distance and have campsites suitable for recreational vehicles. Locally, Burns Lake and Decker Lake provide rainbow trout fishing with char being taken early in the year.

Hunting in the Burns Lake area is also world class with Moose, Deer, Bear, Mountain Goat and Game Birds in abundance.

The town has one secondary School, Lakes District Secondary School with a Fine Arts program and a Kindergarten to Grade Seven school program is offered at William Konkin Elementary School.

Lakes District Secondary School The school serves about 430 students from grades 8 to 12 in a modern and well equipped facility that opened in 2003. The school features a permanent Drama stage, multi-purpose lunchroom, full service industrial shops, large weight/fitness room and an extended gym.
