The collection consists of organizational records, administrative files, case files, and position files for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Western Missouri regional chapter. Founded in 1920, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), a non-profit located in all fifty states, is a public interest law firm that defends civil liberties, principles of equality, and justice. Within the state of Missouri, the ACLU defends civil liberties through litigation, legislative action, and public educational programs. Restrictions Materials located in box 42 have been identified as confidential and have been restricted. Donor Information The records were donated to the University of Missouri by Jean Maloney on behalf of the American Civil Liberties Union on September 21, 1983 (Accession No. KA0219). An addition was made on March 29, 1984 by the American Civil Liberties Union (Accession No. KA0235). An addition was made on January 5, 2009 by Paul Siegel on behalf of the American Civil Liberties Union (Accession No. KA1665). An addition was made on December 2, 2013 by the American Civil Liberties Union (Accession No. KA2167). An addition was made on February 7, 2014 by the American Civil Liberties Union (Accession No. KA2228). An addition was made on December 21, 2015 by Doug Bonney on behalf of the American Civil Liberties Union (Accession No. KA2312). Copyright and Restrictions The Donor has given and assigned to the University of Missouri all rights of copyright, which the Donor has in the Materials and in such of the Donor’s works as may be found among any collections of Materials received by the University from others.
