BAB I PENDAHULUAN A. Latar Belakang Masalah Suatu wilayah tentunya selalu mengalami dinamika dan perkembangan dengan adanya berbagai peristiwa penting termasuk revolusi. Salah satu momen penting yang menyebabkan revolusi yaitu kolonialisme Belanda yang mendapatkan perlawanan dari penduduk setempat yang berusaha untuk memperjuangkan kemerdekaan. Revolusi tersebut telah membuahkan hasil yaitu kemerdekaan wilayah bekas jajahan Hindia Belanda menjadi Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia (NKRI). Revolusi ternyata belum berakhir, perjuangan Indonesia masih berlanjut untuk mempertahankan kemerdekaan dari agresi militer Belanda maupun perjuangan diplomatik untuk mendapatkan pengakuan kedaulatan dan kemerdekaan secara de facto dan de jure, sehingga tahun 1945 – 1949 sering disebut sebagai masa revolusi kemerdekaan atau revolusi fisik. Berbagai pulau yang ada di Indonesia memiliki nilai strategis yang menyebabkan kedatangan penjajah termasuk di Sumatra. Sumatra memiliki arti penting hingga sekarang terutama sebagai tempat penghasil pertanian melalui perkebunan. Sumatra pernah dikenal sebagai Svarnadvipa of Gold Island yang bermakna pulau yang menghasilkan banyak emas, selain itu Sumatra merupakan pusat perdagangan rempah-rempah1 sehingga para penjajah seperti Portugis, Belanda dan Inggris berusaha datang ke Sumatra. Belanda pernah berkuasa kurang lebih 350 tahun di Indonesia termasuk Sumatra. Peta wilayah kekuasaan Hindia Belanda dapat diamati pada gambar 1. Negotiating Polygamy in Indonesia. Between Muslim Discourse and Women’s Lived Experiences Nina Nurmila Dra (Bandung, Indonesia), Grad.Dip.Arts (Murdoch University, Western Australia), MA (Murdoch University) Submitted in total fulfilment of the requirements of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy February 2007 Gender Studies - Faculty of Arts The University of Melbourne ABSTRACT Unlike most of the literature on polygamy, which mainly uses theological and normative approaches, this thesis is a work of social research which explores both Indonesian Muslim discourses on polygamy and women’s lived experiences in polygamous marriages in the post-Soeharto period (after 1998). The thesis discusses the interpretations of the Qur’anic verses which became the root of Muslim controversies over polygamy. Indonesian Muslim interpretations of polygamy can be divided into three groups based on Saeed’s categorisation of the Muslim approaches to the Qur’an (2006b: 3). First, the group he refers to as the ‘Textualists’ believe that polygamy is permitted in Islam, and regard it as a male right. Second, the group he refers to as ‘Semi-textualists’ believe that Islam discourages polygamy and prefers monogamy; therefore, polygamy can only be permitted under certain circumstances such as when a wife is barren, sick and unable to fulfil her duties, including ‘serving’ her husband’s needs. Third, the group he calls ‘Contextualists’ believe that Islam implicitly prohibits polygamy because just treatment of more than one woman, the main requirement for polygamy, is impossible to achieve. This thesis argues that since the early twentieth century it was widely admitted that polygamy had caused social problems involving neglect of wives and their children. -
The Importance of Teaching Slang in the Class of Indonesian As a Second Language

Department of Foreign Languages, Azerbaijan University of Languages [email protected] Abstract Slang is a controversial issue in teaching a second language since some teachers consider slang as a lower level of language while the others argue of its being an integral part of everyday language. Language purists choose not to use slang in the classroom because they associate it with vulgarity which would not be appropriate for academic environment. On the other hand, those who approve teaching slang believe that it is a key to a certain language speaking world. Indonesian slang that differs significantly from the standard language in both vocabulary and grammatical structure is used not only in everyday conversation but it also penetrated into popular media these days. This is the reason why an Indonesian language learner who has been taught only the proper version of the language faces difficulties in communicating with a native speaker or in fully understanding newspaper articles and TV programs. This paper suggests introducing slang in classes of Indonesian as a second language to increase confidence in students to interact actively with native speakers which can be realized via song lyrics, movies and role plays. Pendahuluan Pembelajaran yang dilakukan pada tema 5 Pahlawanku Subtema 3 Sikap Kepahlawanan Pembelajaran 1 menggunakan model pembelajaran Cooperative Learning. Metode pembelajaran yang digunakan dalam pembelajaran yang digunakan dalam pembelajaran yaitu, Ceramah, Diskusi, Tanya Jawab dan Permainan. Pembelajaran yang dilakukan di kelas IV B dilakukan selama 3 jam pembelajaran, dimana 1 jam pelajaran 35 Menit. Satu pertemuan dilakukan selama 105 Menit untuk kegiatan awal, kegiatan inti dan kegiatan penutup. Jumlah siswa di kelas IV B adalah 20 siswa. Materi yang digunakan menggunakan sumber dan buku siswa dan buku guru Tema 5 Pahlawanku Subtema 3 Sikap Kepahlawanan Pembelajaran 1. Mata pelajaran yang termuat didalamnya yaitu IPA, IPS dan Bahasa Indonesia. Mata pelajaran IPA mengenai materi cermin cembung dan cermin cekung, dan pata pelajaran IPS mengenai materi nama Pahlawan Nasional Indonesia. Mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia mengenai materi menulis informasi dari teks non fiksi. Penanganan terhadap siswa yang mengalami kesulitan pada saat pembelajaran adalah mendekati dan memberikan bimbingan kepada siswa secara langsung. Kegaduhan yang ditimbulkan oleh siswa ditangani dengan menggunakan beberapa tepuk semangat jilid dua dan tepuk konsentrasi agar konsentrasi kembali pada pembelajaran. Selain itu pada jumlah siswa yang banyak maka dalam pembelajaran harus menggunakan suara yang keras. B. Pembahasan 1. Materi Pembelajaran yang dilakukan di kelas IV B memuat 3 mata pelajaran yaitu IPA, IPS dan Bahasa Indonesia. -

Although Stovia Bahder Djohan; (School ter Opleiding van Inlandsche Artsen) was established to produce indigenous Constructor; (Bumiputra) doctors, its students and graduates were not given access to GTNI. In GTNI; response, educators at Stovia founded the Tijdschrift Voor Inlandsche Geneeskundigen Leimena; (TVIG) as a special journal for indigenous doctors. Due to limited funds, TVIG – Stovia; Pribumi the only scientific medical publication for indigenous doctors – ceased publication Doctors; TVIG in 1922. The physicians formed Vereeniging van Inlandsche Geneeskundigen (VIG) an association for pribumi (native) doctors to express various demands for equal rights, one of which was the right to access GTNI. The protests and demands of the bumiputra doctors resulted not only in being granted reading access rights but also being able to become writers for GTNI. Bumiputra doctors who contributed to GTNI included Bahder Djohan and Johannes Leimena. However, they were not the only authors who contributed to GTNI during the Dutch East Indies era. After Indonesia became independent, both doctors played major roles in laying the foundation for Indonesia’s health education system and implementing village-based health policies. This article is part of a research project on Indonesia’s health history using the archives of the GTNI, TVIG and books written by doctors who contributed to GTNI which were published from the early twentieth century onwards. -

In addition, any quotation or extract must include full attribution. 1 Abstract Classic Indonesian exploitation films (originally produced, distributed, and exhibited in the New Order’s Indonesia from 1979 to 1995) are commonly negligible in both national and transnational cinema contexts, in the discourses of film criticism, journalism, and studies. Nonetheless, in the 2000s, there has been a global interest in re-circulating and consuming this kind of films. The films are internationally considered as “cult movies” and celebrated by global fans. This thesis will focus on the cultural traffic of the films, from late 1970s to early 2010s, from Indonesia to other countries. By analyzing the global flows of the films I will argue that despite the marginal status of the films, classic Indonesian exploitation films become the center of a taste battle among a variety of interest groups and agencies. The process will include challenging the official history of Indonesian cinema by investigating the framework of cultural traffic as well as politics of taste, and highlighting the significance of exploitation and B-films, paving the way into some findings that recommend accommodating the movies in serious discourses on cinema, nationally and globally. -

Red Cross had a long history regarding its important contributions among national movement to the Indonesian Revolution period. The history of the Red Cross from Bataviaasch Comite to be the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) was very Received: complex, due to many dynamics and chronicles in it. There were lots of interesting June 8, 2020 problems to study on the Red Cross transition from the colonial government to the Republic of the Indonesia government. Based on the reason above, this research Revised: June 9, 2020 discusses the Red Cross transformation from the Bataviaasch Committee into the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI). The research was historical research by applying four Accepted: stages. Analysis results indicated that Red Cross's development from Bataviaasch June 10, 2020 Committee to PMI had many obstacles, both internal and external ones. Moreover, political constellation at that time also gave a great effect on Indonesian Red Cross development. However, these uncertain conditions have confirmed the Indonesian Red Cross establishing process.
