The twelve chapters dis- cuss two key issues of our time, mobility and transnational- ism, from the perspective of Finnish migration. The volume is divided into four sections.     JUNE 22, 2016 Restaurants Closing During the Summer Months (2016) This post may come as bad news, at least for "foodies" visiting Stockholm in July and early August. Many top tier restaurants (Michelin star, gourmet) close for a few weeks during the summer. This is mainly due to the generous Swedish vacation rules leading many top restaurants to feel that they can't offer excellent food & service with summer replacement staff. Another reason, perhaps, is that many Stockholmers leave the city during this period and there aren't enough visiting "foodies" to fill these types of restaurants to make it profitable. No businessmen in town either... wining & dining clients. At any rate, the good news is that there are a few which will be open all summer and several other top restaurants have some other options during these weeks... and you always have a plethora of other great restaurants in the city to choose from! Most of these restaurants are also closed during the big Midsummer holiday weekend (June 24th-26th). Michelin star and Bib Gourmand restaurants: • Mathias Dahlgren- closed between July 15th and August 9th (both the Dining Room and the Food Bar). • Frantzén- closes on July 9th. Reopening at a new & better location in 2017! • Oaxen Krog- open all summer as normal. • Oaxen Slip- open all summer... every day for lunch & dinner. • Gastrologik- open all summer, though their more casual Speceriet will be closed until the beginning of August for renovations. • Ekstedt- closed between July 17th and August 5th. • Esperanto- the dining room is closed between June 24th and August 5th.

    Gravöppning 1915 I november 1915, i samband med en stor renovering av Riddarholmskyrkan, påbörjade arkitekten och konsthistorikern Martin Olsson en undersökning i koret främst för att återfinna Magnus Ladulås Varför öppnades Magnus grav. Gravtumban hade varit föremål för undersökningar tidigare, men de provgropar som gjorts hade missat sitt mål och tumban ansågs vara tom. Denna gång började man med att flytta undan grav- tumbans lock och jobba sig nedåt. Först fann Olsson ett utrymme fyllt av tegelstenar, tegelskärvor och murbruksklumpar. Ett golv av tegel bröts igenom och ännu ett utrymme uppdagades. Detta var mindre och fyllt av tegelskärvor samt kalkgrus. Under ytterligare ett golv fann Olsson själva graven. ladulås gravtumba? Olsson och Fürst gjorde en personattribuering av skeletten. Genom att titta på dödsålder och, i de fall det gick, gravläggningsordning härledde de skeletten till historiska personer. Med stor sannolikhet tillhör skelett 1 Magnus Ladulås, ske- lett 5 hans hustru Helvig, skelett 6 deras dotter Rikissa och skelett 2 Magnus barnbarn och nam- ne Magnus Birgersson. ABSTRACT This paper studies the forms of aristocratic social capital and modes of its conversion into dynastic, educational, economic, and symbolic forms in Scandinavia during the High Middle Ages. By closely scrutinizing the activities of several papal legates sent by Roman Curia to the North as well as the policies of locally appointed papal legates – particularly Absalon of Lund and Anders Sunesen – , the article shows how the Scandinavian aristocratic elites interacted with wider European networks of power in the course of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. The documents associated with the activities of papal legates studied here (papal bulls, diplomas, synodal decrees, and contemporary chronicles) are treated as nodes tying together local Scandinavian powerful families, their local monastic foundations, and political ambitions both home and abroad with wider European networks of papal authority and protection, recognition in international educational circles, and dynastic alliances. By pursuing the high medieval ‘angelological’ model of government applied to papal legates, this paper shows what the political technology of delegation of power looked like in pre-modern Europe.     Part VI: Hostages in the Areas of Confrontation Between the Swedes and the Geats The giving and taking of hostages that is described in the Westrogothic Law (Sw. Västgötalagen) took place in certain territo- ries in present day Sweden. Because this ritual occurred during the king’s so-called Eriksgata – the traditional journey of the elected Swedish king – it is necessary to understand the law in the light of the political situation in the provinces of the Swedes (Sw. svear) and the Geats (Sw. götar) in the 11th to 13th centuries. Two events that are reported in the Westrogothic Law are of par- ticular interest: (1) The established, law-given practice of hostage giving and taking at the river Junebäcken (‘the June Brook’) at today’s city of Jönköping, possibly during the king’s Eriksgata.1 (2) The slaying of King Ragnvald Ingesson Knaphövde at Karleby outside the present day city of Falköping around 1120–1130. Ragnvald was killed because he did not bring the hostage of the Geats to the Thing of all Geats (Sw. Alla götars ting), according to the appendix by the priest of Vidhem. These traditions of hostages can be the result of confrontations between different groupings (or political parties) in different provinces (Sw. landskap).     ‘King of Sweden, the Götar and the Wends’... What about the Finns?: Investigating Finland’s absence from Swedish royal titulature in medieval and Early Modern Sweden Caroline Wilhelmsson University of Aberdeen Abstract: This article is about Swedish royal titulature and Finland’s absence from it. It is concerned with understanding why Finland, which was officially integrated into the Swedish kingdom in the thirteenth century, was never acknowledged in the short form of the Swedish royal title although others were, despite not being officially Swedish subjects. The article looks at the development of early medieval royal titles, including their meaning, and the context of their introduction and use. It then proposes several theories to try and address Finland’s lack of representation. These hypotheses require an investigation of alternative historical definitions of some of the ethnonyms used in royal titulature, and revaluate our understanding of Finland’s relationship with Sweden in the medieval and Early Modern periods. The study concludes that while a definite answer cannot be given, Finland’s native population might have been eclipsed from public view by the cultural Swedish elite. In addition, a historically negative reputation may have encouraged its exclusion from royal honours. It is also possible that Finland was included under a different terminology born out of the Early Modern Period’s reinterpretation of the past.     THE COINS OF SWEDEN To Queen Christina By David Ruckser Sweden, officially the Kingdom of Sweden, is a Nordic country on the Scandinavian Peninsula in Northern Europe. It has borders with Norway (west and north) and Finland (northeast). It has been a member of the European Union since January 1, 1995. Its capital city is Stockholm. At 449,964 km² (173,720 square miles), Sweden is the third largest country by area in Western Europe and fifth in all of Europe. Sweden has a low population density of 20 people per square kilometre, except in its metropolitan areas; 84% of the popula- tion lives in urban areas, which comprise only 1.3% of the country's total land area so that's about 1,300 people per square kilometre (3,400 per square mile) in urban areas. The inhabitants of Sweden enjoy a high standard of living, and the country is generally perceived as modern and liberal, with an organisational and corporate cul- ture that is non-hierarchical and collectivist compared to its Anglo-Saxon counter- parts.[3] Nature conservation, environmental protection and energy efficiency are generally prioritized in policy making and embraced by the general public in Sweden. Sweden has long been a major exporter of iron, copper and timber. Improved trans- portation and communication has allowed for the large scale utilization of remote nat- ural assets, most notably timber and iron ore. In the 1890s, universal schooling and industrialization enabled the country to devel- op a successful manufacturing industry and by the twentieth century, Sweden emerged as a welfare state, consistently achieving high positions among the top-ranking countries in the UN Human Development Index (HDI).
