Born in Guelph, Ontario, Susan studied architecture at the University of Toronto, graduating in 1983 and obtaining her professional license in 1988. Following graduation she entered private practice in the Toronto area, performing consult- National Steel Car Limited ing work. In 1990, Susan joined the Engineering Department of the Toronto Transit Com- mission where she has worked on a variety of design projects for Toronto’s public transit system. She is particularly proud of participating on the taskforce that developed the yellow platform edge tiles which promote safe and indepen- dent use of the subway by blind persons. This material is now used by many transit organizations throughout North America. Susan also has been involved in the development of standards to accommodate people with disabilities in the subway system. Serving Canada's Railways Since 1912 In the late nineties, Susan moved to the TTC’s Safety Department as Environ- mental Manager where she spent two years prior to returning to the Engineering Department and assuming her current role as Manager in 2006. In 1996, Susan was one of sixteen Canadians chosen to represent Canada in LEAD International, Swift Railroad Contractors an environmental training program for sustainable development.
