I have never been very comfortable with the ‘design’ word, and prefer the idea of the pursuit of ‘intelligent patterns of life’... and remind myself that many are invisible. Nick Butler RDI Founding partner BIB Design Consultants 1967. Worked extensively in the Pacific Rim as well as holding a number of consultancy roles in Europe. Uniting industrial design, engineering and technology with broader social concerns, some examples of his wide ranging work include: medical devices, JCB Sitemaster Diggers, Minolta cameras, Durabeam torches, Dunhill watches and Mont Blanc pens, and Connect 4 children’s game. Stephanie Chen Rocket scientist turned designer; ready to explore, one earthly project at a time. Penchant for all things food-related, a taste for sustainability and an extreme desire to hike mountains in Nepal. Member of AGI, was a President of D&AD and past Master of the Royal Designers for Industry. Max Fordham RDI I went to school at Dartington Hall and the experience is an important part of my attitude to design and engineering; creativity was encouraged, but it also emphasised conventional academia. After qualifying with a science degree I chose building services engineering, which has given me the scope to combine creativity with scientific thinking to help design buildings to meet the pressure of global warming. Thomas Fritz I studied architecture at the University of Stuttgart and I’ve always been interested in all kind of fine arts, as well as maths and physics. Architecture is, in my view, the perfect combination of them. 2 David Gentleman RDI David Gentleman is a painter, designer, illustrator and writer, well known for his mural on the underground at Charing Cross, for his books on Britain, London, Paris and India, and for his postage stamps.
