The BioQuarter is a new building adjacent to the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh (RIE) site

By road The Training School is on the first floor of Number 9, The BioQuarter - a newly developed Science park adjacent to the Royal Infirmary site.

If travelling from the city centre: Continue along the A7 past the RIE and take the first left at the next set of traffic lights into Little France Road. Number 9 is found on the left just before the end of the road.

If travelling from the Edinburgh by-pass: From the A720 Sheriffhall roundabout take the A7 (City centre) and continue straight on past Shawfair Park & Ride following city centre signs. Keep straight on through three sets of traffic lights, taking the right-hand lane (A7) at the 3rd set. Drive down the hill before turning next right at a 4th set of traffic lights into Little France Road. Number 9 is situated on the left just before a barrier across the end of the road.

On arrival Press the intercom button at the entrance barrier and inform the Reception who you are and that you have an NHS car park space pre-booked. Drive through the entrance barrier into the car park and follow the signs to the left then drive clockwise towards the building and then back towards the gate. The NHS car park spaces can then be found on the left-hand side towards the exit. (a small NHS label is on the kerbside)

For non-Edinburgh participants only - a car parking space may be booked on a 1st come 1st served basis and those requiring parking should email their car registration number to Cheryl Kisacik: [email protected] as soon as possible and an NHS space, if available, will be allocated.

24-hour Park and ride Shawfair Park & Ride, Old Dalkeith Road, Dalkeith. EH22 1FF. (on the A7, near the A720/Sherriffhall roundabout) offers a 750 space car park and five- minute bus journey to the Royal Infirmary site. For information see: www.edinburgh.gov.uk/sherriffhall

By air The BioQuarter is approximately 25 minutes by road from , A Flight-link bus or tram service run from the airport to the City regularly every 15 minutes.

Trains Edinburgh is well served by trains to Edinburgh Waverley station. For train information see: www.nationalrail.co.uk/. Taxis are available just outside the station from Market Street and buses are also available from North Bridge nearby.

Buses There are eight bus routes to the main hospital site, all of which run a regular service throughout the day from Edinburgh City centre. It takes approximately 15 minutes to travel from the city centre to the site. The bus routes 7, (8), 18, 21, 24, 33, 38, 49 stop at the Queen’s Medical Research Institute, before continuing to the Bus Hub. However, we advise that you stay on the bus until it stops at the Bus Hub.

Whilst driving along Little France Drive on the bus you may see two large buildings on the right-hand side before you get to the RIE bus hub, Regenerative Medicine is the first building and 9 BioQuarter is the second one at the top of the hill. Once you alight from the bus, walk away from the direction of the hospital; following the pavement across a zebra crossing and cross the Little France Drive at a 2nd zebra crossing (where some of the buses come along). Pass the front of the Regenerative Medicine building and climb the wooden steps. Walk in the direction of the 2nd building - 9 BioQuarter. Follow the path and zig-zag route, which goes over a burn, climb up another set of steps and turn right following the signed pedestrian route that runs along the back and side of 9 BioQuarter. The main entrance is to be found in the corner at the other side (front) of the building.

Cycle A covered cycle park is available at the BioQuarter

Taxi Taxis can drop off at the front entrance. For pick up - a taxi rank is in front of the Chancellor’s building at RIE or taxis can be booked to pick up from the BioQuarter.

Catering

Tea and coffee will be provided in the Training Room. Lunch is not provided.

There is a small cafeteria on the ground floor where baked potatoes, sandwiches, toasties etc. are available to purchase or you may bring your own.

Please note the new opening hours for the Lab Café Mon – Fri 7.30am – 3.30pm
