Over the past two decades, Edinburgh BioQuarter has played a pivotal role in Scotland’s successes in the life sciences sector, which has a turnover in excess of £6.5bn and employs over 41,000 people. With the commitment of its partners City of Edinburgh Council, NHS Lothian, Scottish Enterprise and the University of Edinburgh, BioQuarter has had over £500m public capital investment, with a further £300m planned by its partners over the next five years. The planned expansion of BioQuarter into a vibrant community where academics and clinicians will rub shoulders with entrepreneurs, students and families is an opportunity for new private sector partners to be part of a global success story. Our vision is to rapidly grow the site into a vibrant mixed use neighbourhood of Edinburgh, centred around a world-leading community of healthcare innovators. By developing at scale and at pace together with a private sector partner we will accelerate solutions to global health challenges. BioQuarter will be known around the world as a key destination for health innovation and has the potential to become one of the UK’s largest single-site developments focussed on life sciences, data-driven innovation, medical teaching and research and healthcare delivery. 2 A placemaking strategy is emerging that will support the partners’ vision for BioQuarter. The new neighbourhood will be an attractive, inclusive urban quarter for people to live, learn, work, play, relax and discover. Shops, cafés, hotel, nursery and residential homes will sit alongside state-of-the-art innovation facilities - creating a lively environment that promotes health and wellbeing and where people want to visit. BioQuarter will be a welcoming and accessible place for local communities, with carbon neutral targets and excellent connectivity both within the site and to the wider city.
