Perspectives PERSPECTIVES فصلنامه علمی- فرهنگی- اجتماعی دانشجویی سال اول- شماره اول- پاییز 1394 قیمت: 1000 تومان سخـنی کـوتـاه دربـاره ی نقـد تـرجمه مصاحبه ی اختصاصی با استیون گرینبلت: پدر تاریخ گرایی نوین Why Translation Matters A Short Note on Minimalist Literature یادداشت سردبیر دانشــگاه اصفهــان، دانشــکدۀ زبــان هــای خارجــی ـ هــر روز بــا دانشــجویانی روبــه رو مــی شــوی کــه ذهــن فهرست مطالب هایشــان سرشــار اســت از ایــده هــای نــو و قلــم هایشــان مشــتاق نگاشــتنش. مــی شــود گفــت آمــاده انــد کــه • • شــگفتی ســاز شــوند؛ آمــاده انــد کــه آینــده ای پرافتخــار را رقــم بزننــد؛ آمــاده انــد کــه از دیگــران فراگیرنــد و بــه دیگــران بیاموزنــد! امــا خــوب کــه دورو بــرت را نــگاه مــی کنــی، چیــزی انــگار کــم باشــد! بســتری بــرای ظهــور ایــن ذهــن هــای یادداشت سردبیر خــاق و ایــن قلــم هــای توانــا! فرصتــی کــه بشــود هــر یــک از ایــن دانشــجویان، آن چــه در ســرش مــی گــذرد 1 را بــا دیگــران ســهیم شــود. حیــف مــی شــد اگــر ایــده هایــی کــه مــی توانســت جامــه ی عمــل پوشــانیده شــود سخنی کوتاه •درباره ی نقد ترجمه و بــه تغییــر و پیشــرفت بینجامــد، تــا همیشــه شــکل یــک ایــده بمانــد و بــس! 2 پــس بــر آن شــدیم کــه گامــی برداریــم بــرای شــکوفا کــردن جوانــه هایــی کــه جایــی در گوشــه کنــار ذهــن برخوردی از •جنس زندگی با ادبیات دانشــجویان توانایمــان در انتظــار بــه ثمــر نشســتن اســت، گامــی برداریــم بــرای آموختــن، بــرای بهتــر شــدن. Both Sides of the Pond 3 در راســتای تحقــق ایــن هــدف، عاشــقانه بــه تــاش پرداختیــم و نتیجــه ی کار، مجموعــه نوشتاریســت کــه هــم • اکنــون در دســت داریــد. شــاید بتــوان گفــت ایــن فصلنامــه دریچــه ایســت –گرچــه کوچــک- رو بــه دنیایــی کــه 4 • امــروز، بســیاری از مــا، چــه از روی عاقــه و چــه از روی نیــاز در آن قــدم گذاشــته ایــم، دنیــای ارتبــاط بــا آن راز بقا چــه کــه بــه زبانــی بــه غیــر از زبــان ماســت، )دنیــای زبــان انگلیســی( دنیایــی وســیع و علمــی غیرقابــل ارزش جمع و منهای •ادبیات کﻻسیک 6 گــذاری، دنیایــی کــه بــه نظــر مــی رســد درحــال حاضــر انتهایــی را نمــی تــوان برایــش پیــش بینــی کــرد! 8 آن چــه در ایــن فصلنامــه میخوانیــد، مجموعــه ایســت از مطالعــات و تحقیقــات صــورت گرفتــه در حــوزه ی زبــان In the Realm• of Poetry انگلیســی و آن چــه کــه مولفیــن ایــن مطالــب، همــان دانشــجویان دانشــکده ی زبــان هــای خارجــی، تــا بــه امــروز آموختــه انــد. ترکیبــی از تجربــه و ایــده هــای نــو، از آن چــه در گذشــته بــه دســت آمــده و آن چــه قصــد The Father of Modern• Linguistics 9 داریــم در آینــده بــه دســت بیاوریــم. 10 امید بر آن است که در نظر شما مخاطبین ارزشمند، در اجرای این روند موفق باشیم. Why Translation• Matters و امــروز مشــتاقانه بــه انتظــار ناگفتــه هــای شــما نشســته ایــم. فرقــی نمــی کنــد کــه تــازه واردیــد و یــا از دانشــجویان باتجربــه ی ایــن رشــته، آن چــه اهمیــت دارد ایــن اســت کــه چیــزی مــی دانیــد کــه ارزش نشــر •On New Historicism 12 دارد، ایــده ای داریــد کــه ارزش بــه بحــث کشــیده شــدن دارد، مطلبــی آموختــه ایــد کــه میخواهیــد بــه دیگــران 13 هــم بیاموزیــد. آن چــه ارزش دارد ایــن اســت کــه شــما دانشــجویی هســتید کــه دنبــال پیشــرفت و آموختنیــد، I expect a flourishing• of“ مــی خواهیــد گامــی در جهــت رشــد خــود و اعتــا بخشــیدن بــه دیگــران برداریــد، آن چــه ارزش دارد ایــن اســت !literary inventiveness کــه هــر یــک از مــا از دیگــری متفاوتیــم و حــاﻻ ایــن فرصــت مهیاســت کــه ناگفتــه هــای یکدیگــر را بشــنویم و بیاموزیــم آن چــه را کــه میخواهیــم بدانیــم. ایــن فصلنامــه در ســایه ی حمایــت مســئولین محتــرم، حاصــل !Instant •Literature 15 تــاش دانشــجو و بــرای دانشجوســت؛ پــس بــرای انعــکاس دانــش و ایــده هــای شــما از هیــچ تاشــی فروگــذار 16 نخواهیــم کــرد. • شایســته اســت در ایــن جــا، روز هشــتم مهرمــاه، روز جهانــی ترجمــه را بــه اســاتید، دانشــجویان و عاقــه منــدان ایــن رشــته تبریــک بگوییــم. ژوزه ســاراماگو در جایــی می گویــد: "نویســندگان، آفرینــش ادبیات ملــی را بر عهده دارنــد، حــال آنکــه ایــن مترجمــان هســتند کــه ادبیــات جهانــی را مــی ســازند!" بنابرایــن اغــراق نیســت اگــر ادعا کنیــم جهــان امــروز مــا، بــدون وجود هنــر ناب و ارزشــمند ترجمــه آنچنان کــه امروز هســت نبود و جهــان فردای مــا نیــز، نیازمنــد مترجمانــی کارآمــد و متعهــد بــه هنــر واﻻی ترجمــه خواهــد بــود! پــس بــه ســهم خــود، عهــد صاحب امتیاز: دکتر محمدتقی شاه نظری مــی کنیــم در بســتر ایــن فصلنامــه، در جهــت ارتقــای فضــای ترجمــه، درحــد توانمــان، نهایــت تاشــمان را بــه مدیرمسئول و سردبیر: شیﻻ سمیع عادل کار بندیــم. هیئــت تحریریــه: حمیــد افاضــل، آرمــان امیــری، ســارا جوهرشمشــیری، فائــزه چقاجــردی، مهــرداد رحیمــی مقــدم، علــی ســعادت آرا، شــیﻻ ســمیع عــادل، الیــاس عقیلــی. در نهایــت ســپاس گزاریــم از حمایــت هــای بــی وقفــه ی اســتاد گرانقــدر، جنــاب آقــای دکتــر شــاه نظــری کــه دبیران علمی: سارا جوهرشمشیری، مهرداد رحیمی مقدم از آغــاز شــکل گیــری ایــن ایــده تــا لحظــه ی بــه ثمــر نشســتنش همــواره همــراه و پیشــتیبان مــا بــوده انــد. گرافیست و صفحه آرا: ایمان امیدی فصل نامه علمی، فرهنگی، اجتماعی عکاس: علی بیدهندی آبان ماه 1394 طراح جلد: شیبا سمیع عادل دانشجویی [email protected] این فصلنامه با حمایت مادی و معنوی اداره کل امور فرهنگی دانشگاه اصفهان چاپ و منتشر می شود. 1 ••فصل نامه ی علمی، فرهنگی، اجتماعی دانشجویی••شماره اول••پاییز PERSPECTIVES••issue 1•• December 2015•• •• 94•• محــدود بــه جمــع محــدودی از نویســندگان و مترجمهــا بوده اســت. عیــن حــال حرفــه ای مــو بــه مــو رعایــت شــود. بــرای مثــال نقــد کتــاب سخنی کوتاه درباره ی نقد ترجمه معمــوﻻ یــک خواننــده ی عــادی ترجمــه کســی نیســت کــه بــرود ســراغ نــام مــن ســرخ2 کــه بــا مقابلــه ی چهــار نســخه از کتــاب و باوجــود برخوردی از جنس زندگی با ادبیات مجلــه ی "مترجــم" و در آن دنبــال نقــد ترجمــه ی کتابــی باشــد کــه بررســی مولفههایــی همچــون لحــن شــخصیتها کامــا ســاده و مهرداد رحیمی مقدم قصــد دارد آن را تهیــه کنــد. عــاوه بــر ایــن ، بــا توجــه بــه تعــداد پایــه ای نوشــته شــده بــود. اســتقبال خواننــدگان از ایــن نقدهــا خــود الیاس عقیلی انتشــار چنــد نقــد ترجمــهی اخیــر، بازتــاب زیــادی را در میــان بســیار زیــاد ترجمــه هــای چــاپ شــده در بــازار، "مترجــم" بــه طبــع بهتریــن گــواه بــر موفقیــت نقدهــا در آگاه ســازی جامعــهی کتابخــوان هــدف ادبیــات متعالــی، ایــن اســت کــه زیبائیهــای انســان و زندگــی را نویســندگان، مترجمــان و منتقدیــن اَدبــی بــه همــراه داشــت. بســیاری قــادر بــه پوشــش تمامــی ایــن آثــار نبــوده اســت بــود. ایــن دقیقــا همــان حــد وســطی اســت کــه برمــان بــه آن اشــاره بازشناســاند و اهمیــت و واﻻیــی آنهــا را نشــان دهــد. چــه آنکــه زندگی برایــن باورنــد کــه ایــن نــگاه بــه نقــد ترجمــه صحیــح نبــوده و فقــط ســومین نــوع ســنجش ترجمــه کــه از آن تحــت عنوان"ارزیابــی میکنــد. نقــدی کــه نــه همچــون بررســی ترجمــه بــدون در نظــر زیباســت و انســان دارای روحــی بــزرگ و توانــی گســترده اســت . " " " منجــر بــه گســترش نوعی فتیشیســم دقــت می شــود کــه در نهایــت کیفیــت ترجمــه" Translation Quality Assessment یــاد گرفتــن متــن مبــدا بــه داوری مینشــیند و نــه بســان مــدل ارزیابــی " از دیــدن بافتــار کان متــن عاجــز اســت. در ایــن مقالــه ســعی دارم میشــود در یــک ســطح تخصصــی بــه بررســی صحــت و کیفیــت کیفیــت ترجمــه بــا پرداختــن بــه جرئی تریــن مــوارد خــود را بــه زندگــی هیــچ ملتــی جــدا از ادبیــات و هنــر نیســت؛ درواقــع، چنــد نکتــه را پیرامــون نقدهــای منتشــر شــده بــرای خواننــدگان بیــان ترجمــه میپــردازد. البتــه در دانشــگاه هــا بــرای بررســی ترجمههــای محافــل دانشــگاهی و تخصصــی محــدود میکنــد. زندگــی انســان هیچــگاه از ادبیــات قومــی و زبــان و بیــان شــعری کنــم. امیــدوارم خوانــدن ایــن مقالــه اندکــی بــه روشــن شــدن موضــوع و داســتانی بــه مقتضــای حــال و زمــان خــود خالــی نبــوده اســت؛ دانشــجویان نیــز از ایــن روش اســتفاده مــی شــود.این نــوع نقــد بیشــتر امــروزه بــا رشــد چندیــن برابــری ِچــاپ کتاب هــای ترجمــه نیــاز بــه بــه گونــه ای کــه مــی تــوان ادب و هنــر را از نخســتین جلــوه هــای کمــک کنــد. ایــن مقالــه از ســه بخــش تشــکیل شــده اســت: در بخــش در محافــل دانشــگاهی مطــرح بــوده و میــزان قابــل توجهــی از پایــان نقــد ترجمــه بیشــتر از گذشــته حــس میشــود . چــه، خواننــده بــرای حیــات انســانی دانســت . ادبیــات همــواره نــزد ملــل مختلــف بــه اول انــواع روشهــای ســنجش ترجمــه را توضیــح دادهام، در بخــش دوم نامههــای ترجمــه نیــز بــه همیــن مبحــث مربــوط می شــود. خریــد یــک کتــاب بــا ترجمههــای گوناگونــی از آن مواجــه اســت کــه بــه ویژگیهــای نقــد ترجمــه از دیــدگاه برمــان پرداختــه و ســرانجام در عنــوان »غــذای روح « مطــرح بــوده اســت و مــردم از دیربــاز بــا Antoine Berman در بســیاری مــوارد ســبب سرگشــتگی او در انتخــاب بهتریــن ترجمــه بخــش آخــر آثــار و پیامدهــای ایــن نــوع نقــد را تبییــن کــرده ام. آنتــوان برمــان ) ( یکــی از برجســته ترین آن انــس داشــته انــد؛ حقیقتــی کــه در قــرن اخیــر نیــز در همــه ی پژوهشــگران ترجمــه در کتــاب Pour une critique des می شــود. نقــد ترجمــه در وهلــه ی اول میتوانــد خواننــده را در جوامــع مشــهود اســت . ایــن هنــر نوعــی شــناخت، بــه کارگیــری و " آنچــه کــه در روزنامه هــا و مجــات ادبــی ایــران از آن بــه عنــوان نقــد traductions: John Donne نــکات جالبــی را پیرامــون نقــد ترجمــه دســتیابی بــه بهتریــن ترجمــه یــاری کنــد. ایــن نقدهــا بــرای خــود یــا پدیــد آوردن زیبایــی اســت و در قالبــی گیــرا و دل انگیــز بــه بیــان Translation " " " ترجمــه یــاد می شــود اغلــب بررســی ترجمــه مطــرح می کنــد کــه بهنظــر می توانــد راهگشــای وضــع امــروز مترجمهــا نیــز کارآمــد واقــع مــی شــود، زیــرا بــه آن هــا اطمینــان مفاهیــم زیبــای ذهنــی، احساســات و اندیشــه هــای بشــر میپــردازد و Review اســت. در ـبررسـی ترجمــه، نگارنــده بــه موضوعاتــی همچــون ترجمــهی ادبــی

    In 2000, W.W. Norton and Company released a new English -language edition of Joseph Roth’s 1927 compilation of essays entitled, Juden auf Wanderschaft . The edition’s dustcover proclaims in large, bold typeface: “A masterpiece of Jewish identity emerges in English 70 years after it was first written.” While it can’t be denied that Roth’s tale documenting the mass movement of eastern Jews ( Ostjuden )1 westward across the European continent in the early twentieth century has captured both public and scholarly i nterest in German -2 and English -speaking lands, the quotation still begs the question: Why are we reading Roth again now? Even the most tentative answer to this question should include the fact that Roth’s concerns in Juden auf Wanderschaft , including the forcible displacement of a people and their subsequent dispersal throughout the world, and Roth’s suggestion of an inherent tyranny in Western culture, find remarkable resonance in our contemporary reality. Global migrations and Westernization inform curre nt research, not just on identity politics, but also on topics that seek to move beyond or reinvigorate discussions of identity —topics such as mobility, diaspora, and migration.3 Written by one who was both an assimilated Viennese and a Galician Jew born i n the eastern -most reaches of the Hapsburg Empire, Roth’s work offers an extraordinarily complex and informative perspective on issues that remain topical today. Nevertheless, Roth’s Juden auf Wanderschaft is rarely analyzed in a manner reflecting this complexity. Most reviewers, in celebratory response to the work’s themes, see it as a poignant declaration of love for the vanishing eastern Jewish culture with which Roth came of age.

    INVOKING THE PAST: THE CULTURAL POLITICS OF LAO LITERATURE, 1941-1975 A Thesis Presented to the Faculty of the Graduate School of Cornell University In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Arts by Chairat Polmuk May 2014 © 2014 Chairat Polmuk ABSTRACT This thesis examines the role of Lao literature in the formation of Lao national identity from 1945 to 1975. In the early 1940s, Lao literary modernity emerged within the specific politico-cultural context of the geopolitical conflict between French Laos and Thailand. As a result, Lao literature and culture became increasingly politicized in colonial cultural policy to counter Thai expansionist nationalism that sought to incorporate Laos into Thai territorial and cultural space. I argue that Lao literature, which was institutionalized by Franco-Lao cultural campaigns between 1941 and 1945, became instrumental to the invention of Lao tradition and served as a way to construct a cultural boundary between Laos and Thailand. Precolonial Lao literature was revitalized as part of Lao national culture; its content and form were also instrumentalized to distinguish Lao identity from that of the Thai. Lao literature was distinguished by the uses of the Lao language, poetic forms, and classical conventions rooted in what was defined as Laos’s own literary culture. In addition, Lao prose fiction, which was made possible in Laos with the rise of print capitalism and an emergent literate social class, offered another mode of “invented tradition.” Despite its presumed novelty in terms of form and content, early Lao prose fiction was highly conventional in its representation of idealized traditional society in opposition to a problematic modern one.

    366 INTERLITT ERA RIA 2019, 24/2: 366–379 KETURA KIENĖ Lithuanian Literature and Shakespeare: Several Cases of Reception EGLĖ KETURAKIENĖ Abstract. The article is based on the reception theory by Hans Robert Jauss and analyses how Shakespeare’s works were read, evaluated and interpreted in Lithuanian literature in the 19th to 21th centuries. Some traces of Shakespeare’s works might be observed in letters by Povilas Višinskis and Zemaitė where Shakespearean drama is indicated as a canon of writing to be followed. It is interesting to note that Lithuanian exodus drama by Kostas Ostrauskas is based on the correspondence between Višinskis and Zemaitė. The characters of the play introduce the principles of the drama of the absurd. Gell’s concept of distributed personhood offered by S. Greenblatt is very suitable for analysing modern Lithuanian literature that seeks a creative relationship with Shakespeare’s works. The concept maintains that characters of particular dramas can break loose from the defined interpretative framework. Lithuanian exodus drama reinterprets Shakespeare’s works and characters. The plays by Ostrauskas and Algirdas Landsbergis explore the variety of human existence and language, the absurd character of the artist, meaningless human existence and the critique of totalitarianism. Modern Lithuanian poetry interprets Shakespeare‘s works so that they serve as a way to contemplate the theme of modern writing, meaningless human existence, the tragic destiny of an individual and Lithuania, miserable human nature, the playful nature of literature, the clownish mask of the poet, the existential silence of childhood, the topic of life as a theatrical performance, the everyday experience of modern women in theatre.

    Recuperating the Archive: Anecdotal Evidence and Questions of ‘‘Historical Realism’’ Sonja Laden Porter Institute for Poetics and Semiotics, Tel Aviv Abstract This essay argues that the critical practice of New Historicism is a mode of ‘‘literary’’ history whose ‘‘literariness’’ lies in bringing imaginative operations closer to the surface of nonliterary texts and briefly describes some of the practice’s lead- ing literary features and strategies. I further point out that the ostensible ‘‘arbitrary connectedness’’ (Cohen 1987) of New Historicist writing is in fact aesthetically coded and patterned, both stylistically and in terms of potential semantic correspondences between various representations of the past. I then move on to address the ques- tion of why anecdotal evidence features centrally and has come to play a key role in New Historicist writing. Here, I contend that, as components of narrative discourse, anecdotal materials are central in enabling New Historicists to make discernible on the surface of their discourse procedures of meaning production typically found in literary forms. In particular, anecdotal materials are the fragmented ‘‘stuff ’’ of his- torical narratization: they facilitate the shaping of historical events into stories and more or less formalized ‘‘facts.’’ This essay examines how the New Historicist anec- dote remodels historical reality ‘‘as it might have been,’’ reviving the way history is experienced and concretely reproduced by contemporary readers of literary history. Finally, the essay confirms how the textual reproduction of anecdotal evidence also enables the New Historicist mode of ‘‘literary’’ history to secure its links to literary artifacts, literary scholarship, and conventional historical discourse.     Honors English 12 Ms. Ferrone Honors English 12 Summer Reading Assignment One of the objectives of Honors English 12 is that you will learn to analyze literature from various cultures – including our own – in order to consider abstract ideas about values, beliefs, priorities, and cultural systems. You will compare and contrast these cultures based on these aspects. You will be expected to open your mind toward others’ views, to see things from unique perspectives, and to challenge your own perceptions. Your summer reading assignment reflects these goals. As students entering your final year of high school English, I expect you are already reading all the time. For that reason, and the fact that it is summer, I want to leave some of the choice of what you read this summer up to you. All I ask is that you read something contemporary and of literary value (either fiction or non-fiction). What does that mean, you ask? Novels and books of literary merit are often identified by scholars and writers who use myriad criteria by which to judge whether a book is notable in some way. These people consider aspects like the style and quality of writing, the nature of the topic and themes, and the originality of the work. One of the sources that feature notable contemporary books of literary merit is The New York Times. Each week The Times features a list of bestselling hardcover fiction and ​ non-fiction. This is one of the lists from which you could choose a summer reading book for ​ this year. You are not limited to choosing only from this week’s list.
