During the period under report, considerable attention was given to the faculty development. Fifteen (15) faculty members successfully completed their PhD degrees from NED University, while another fifteen (15) faculty members re-joined the University after the successful completion of their Ph.D degrees from abroad. Significant contributions were also made in the field of research and development (R&D), 185 papers were published by the faculty in the national and international pier reviewed journals besides

    International Journal of Business and Management Invention ISSN (Online): 2319 – 8028, ISSN (Print): 2319 – 801X www.ijbmi.org Volume 1 Issue 1 ‖‖ December. 2012 ‖‖ PP.01-15 Challenges and Opportunities of Multilingual Library Websites: Evidence from a Developing Country Amir Manzoor (Management Sciences Department, Bahria University, Karachi, Pakistan) ABSTRACT: This study investigates the language barriers on library websites, analyzingdata collected from 133 library websites in Pakistan. Despite a significant increase in the number of library websites in Pakistan, the development of multilingual library websites is still in its infancy stages and doesn’t cater to the needs of diverse population of its users. The study provides first-hand findings on the multilinguality of library websites in Pakistan with a focus on challenges and opportunities arising from such websites. Implications of research along with future research directions are also discussed. Keywords––Language Barriers, Library Websites, Multilingual Websites, Machine Translation. I. INTRODUCTION Language barriers are natural in human communication. In cross border communication, these barriers not only include dominance of a particular language (e.g. English) but also the increasingly multilingual the Internet [(David Crystal 2001); (Becker 2007)]. Since beginning of the last decade, the multilinguality on the Internet has sharply increased with online content available in hundreds of languages [(Crystal 2006); (Kelsey 2011)]. This increased multilinguality has created new challenges for language barriers. In order to facilitate the multilingual users to effectively navigate, search, filter, and retrieve the multilingual content from the library websites, various stakeholders need to do collective efforts [(Dubois 1979);(Yunker 2002); (Tixier 2005); (Becker 2007); (Diekema 2012)].

ABSTRACT This thesis examines the relationship between violence and urbanity. Using Karachi, Pakistan, as a case study, it asks how violent cities are imagined and experienced by their residents. The thesis draws on a variety of theoretical and epistemological frameworks from urban studies to analyze the social and historical processes of urbanization that have led to the perception of Karachi as a city of violence. It then uses the distinction that Michel de Certeau draws between strategy and tactic in his seminal work The Practice of Everyday Life to analyze how Karachiites inhabit, imagine, and invent their city in the midst of – and in spite of – ongoing urban violence.

SHRI BHARTRUHARI MAHTAB (CUTTACK): Chairman, Sir, before I express the issue which I had given, I would like to draw your attention that during Matters of Urgent Importance, notices are considered which are international in nature, national importance, then of State interest, and then of constituency interest. But I am sorry to mention here, I want to be on record, I think, the hon. Speaker, will go through this issue and hon. Parliamentary Affairs Minister also will look into this issue that today, a number of constituency issues were taken up. MR. CHAIRMAN : You just raise your matter. I will look into it. Whatever you want, you tell, it is left to the Chair to decide whether to allow or not. SHRI BHARTRUHARI MAHTAB : This is of national importance and this is of international repercussion. I wanted the House to respond to this. A century old Hindu temple in Karachi was hurriedly demolished by a builder despite a Pakistani Court hearing a petition seeking a stay on such a move. Besides raising the pre-partition Shri Rama Pir Mandir in Karachi's Soldier Bazaar, the builder has also demolished several houses near it last Saturday. Nearly 40 persons, a majority of them Hindus, have become homeless. This has been widely reported in Pakistani media, yet there is no action on behalf of the authorities. The affected families have stated that during demolition the area was cordoned off by the police and paramilitary forces called Pakistani Rangers.

The four names of great men from Sindh that he gave, included three former students of Sindh Madressah. Today, in 21st century, it gives pleasure that Sindh Madressah has kept alive that tradition of producing great men to serve the humanity.
