CHARLES ORTNER APPOINTED NATIONAL LEGAL COUNSEL TO THE RECORDING ACADEMY®

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (January 20, 2003) — Charles Ortner has been appointed to the position of National Legal Counsel for the Recording Academy® it was announced today by Academy President . In this newly created position, Ortner will assist in the development and implementation of the Recording Academy's legal strategies and policy positions, while working with the Academy's senior staff and the General Counsel, Joel Katz.

Commenting on the appointment, Portnow said, "Chuck is well-known within the music community as one of the finest legal minds and a thoughtful strategist. When you combine those qualities with his compassionate, genuine commitment to the Academy and its missions, it is easy to understand my personal pride in having Chuck play this important role for us going forward."
