The kata selection recommended for all Kyu Grade examinations is determined to show that the student has adequately progressed through all stages of their training at the level being examined and shows improvement on previous techniques. The National Grading Examination for Kyu Grades is aligned to the following kata requirements: Grade Kata Sankyu 1, 3, 5, 7 & 8 Rokkyu 1 & 2 only Nikyu 1, 6, 7, 9 & 10 Gokyu 1 – 4 only Ikkyu 1, 4, 7, 11 & 12 Yonkyu 1, 3, 4, 5 & 6 AKR Manual of Documents.
