Not only does it give representatives of all our member associations an opportunity to air their views on the current issues in European football and exchange opinions and experiences. More importantly, it strengthens the ties that bind our organisation. As the governing body of a team sport, we are ideally placed to understand the importance of cohesion within a team. We also know that the attention paid to the regular, first-choice players must not cause the substitutes to be neglected, because it is the atmosphere and harmony within the team as a whole which is often one of the keys to its success. In the same way, after elections, we are right to congratulate those who are elected, but it is also important not to forget those who missed out and those who, for whatever reason, did not stand for election. IN THIS ISSUE This is why UEFA has a system of committees and panels, so that everyone can make their voice heard within European football, and why we also invite all the 33rd Ordinary UEFA Congress members of the European football family – the associations, leagues, clubs and in Copenhagen 03 players – to join the dialogue. 11 guiding principles 04 UEFA is not just its president and Executive Committee, even if it is they you UEFA and FIFA Executive must take the decisions at the end of the day. Committee elections 07 UEFA is a large family whose policy is “football first”, one of the 11 values Under-17 final round in Germany 08 which I presented to the congress and which received the unanimous support of all Grassroots workshop delegates. in Hamburg 09 This unanimity on the key principles that should guide our work is quite The history of the UEFA Cup 10 clearly a solid foundation from which to take up, together, the challenges that await UEFA Executive Committee us in the months ahead. For this reason, the UEFA Congress in Copenhagen really meeting in Copenhagen 12 was an important event for our organisation.

  • Club Brugge KV V SK Rapid Wien PRESS KIT
Club Brugge KV v SK Rapid Wien PRESS KIT Jan Breydel, Bruges Wednesday, 2 November 2005 - 20:45 CET Group A - Matchday 4 When the teams met on 18 October at SK Rapid Wien's Ernst Happel stadium, a 75th- minute strike from Boško Balaban was enough to ensure Club Brugge KV victory. It meant the Belgian champions collected their first points in Group A, and left their Austrian counterparts still searching for a first-ever win in the UEFA Champions League. The one goal scored on Matchday 3 went against the trend of previous matches between the teams, with their two previous ties in UEFA club competition producing a hatful of goals. Rapid unbeaten in Bruges •The Austrian side are unbeaten in their two previous trips to Club Brugge having left Belgium with a draw and a win. Overall, their four matches have produced 23 goals. First meeting •Thirteen of them were scored in their first meeting in the first round of the 1986/87 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. Rapid edged a thrilling first leg 4-3 at home as goals from Reinhard Kienast (2), Karl Brauneder and Gerald Willfurth cancelled out Ronny Rosenthal's opener. What should have been a comfortable first-leg victory from that point turned out to be anything but, as Luc Beyens and Dennis van Wijk struck for Club Brugge to narrow the lead and ensure a nervous finale. •In the return leg at the Jan Breydelstadion in Bruges, Kenneth Brylle Larsen and Rosenthal gave the home side the lead in the tie, but Rapid hit back immediately with goals from current Croatia coach Zlatko Kranjcar, Rudolf Weinhofer and Sulejman Halilovic to take control at 3-2.

  • Street Soccer
STREET SOCCER Street soccer, pick-up game, sandlot soccer or a kick-about whatever title you give to the format the idea is to give the game of soccer back to the players. Past generations learned to play the game on their own with other kids in the neighborhood or at school in these kid organized games. Today youth sports are overly adult controlled and influenced. It’s difficult today for youngsters to have a pick-up game since the streets have too many cars, the sandlot now has a mini- mall on it and parents are reluctant, with good cause, to let their child go blocks away from home on Saturday to play in a game on his or her own. Street soccer is a way for soccer clubs to give the game back to the players in the community. Once a week, or whatever frequency fits the circumstances the best, a club can have organized spontaneity. The club will provide the fields and supervision. Adults will be on site for safety and general supervision, but otherwise it is all up to the players to organize the games. The adults should NOT coach, cheer, criticize, referee or in any other way involve themselves in the game. The best bet for parents is to drop off their child, go run some errands, and then come back to pick up your child an hour or two latter. The coaches are on site NOT to coach, but to supervise, be on hand for any serious injuries and any severe discipline problems. Additionally the coaches are there to provide the game equipment and to let the players know when each game segment starts and stops.
