Scope of Fair and Exhibitions Data The term “fair” and “exhibition” in this book are limited to economic and trade exhibitions, excluding public performanc- es and events in the fields of culture, arts, festivals, talents and others. Fairs and Exhibitions in China 2021 has collected information about 1500 valid economic and trade projects, which will take place in about 100 cities across 34 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities as well as the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions of China in 2021 (the deadline for information collections is 13th January 2021). Project data include the name, time and venue, host & organizer, display content and contact information of the exhibitions. Readers can search information by the host city or by the industry. II. Source of Data The acquisition of data in this book mainly comes from CCPIT local sub-councils and industrial sub-councils, exhibition hosts and organizers, exhibition halls and official media information (online and printed media) III. Limitation and Accuracy Affected by the epidemic situation of Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia (COVID-19), the case for exhibitions in 2021 is that a majority of them appear to be either canceled or postponed. By the time for the book to be published, for some exhibitions held for many years, whether they will be held or not has yet to be determined. Although the Editorial Board has conducted cross check of information about exhibition projects through various means, such as telephone and e-mail, but there may still be adjustments to the changes of information such as date and venue during the preparation of exhibitions, and even the alteration, cancellation or addition of some exhibition projects. Therefore, while carrying out business activities by using the book, users should directly contact the host and organizer of an exhibition and verify relevant information, and take responsibility for any consequences that may occur. The Editorial Board will no longer make further explanations and updates for the book this year. IV Download and Search The book is made available for both printed version and the electronic version, and also open to online real-time search- ing. The download webpage will be launched on Tradeinvest Web (www.tradeinvest.cn), readers can also go to the CCPIT official website (www.ccpit.org) and download from the “publications” section. • Fairs and Exhibitions in China 2015
Fairs and Exhibitions in China 2015 Preface Although China became the first trading country in the world in 2013, there was still a big gap from the target of a “trading power” with high quality and technology as well as strong competitiveness and creativity. Currently, China’s economy still faces many difficulties and challenges, including the big pressure of economic downturn and the pains of structural adjustment. In the future, the growth rate of world’s economy may show a slight rise, but it is difficult to significantly change the trend of recovery weakness. In the “new normal” context that China’s economic growth declines from a high speed to a middle-high speed, economic structure is constantly optimized and upgraded, and the element-driven and investment-driven mode turns into innovation-driven mode, professional economic and trading exhibitions, as an effective channel of optimizing industrial structure, encouraging scientific and technological innovation, exploiting trade and investment markets, and promoting balanced development between export and trade, should catch the opportunity to help China’s enterprises to realize transformation and upgrade, push up economic development, enhance economic quality and efficiency, and cultivate new advantages in international competitiveness. China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) has held and participated in economic and trade exhibitions around the world since 60 years ago. Since the reform and opening-up, especially when China entered into WTO, CCPIT has given full play to its advantages to provide management and other services for overall, coordinated and sustainable development of China’s exhibition economy, and put up an effective platform for extensive exhibition organizers and exhibitors to carry out international exchange and economic and trade cooperation, thus making its contributions to the prosperous development of China’s exhibition industry.

  • Shanghai, China Overview Introduction
Shanghai, China Overview Introduction The name Shanghai still conjures images of romance, mystery and adventure, but for decades it was an austere backwater. After the success of Mao Zedong's communist revolution in 1949, the authorities clamped down hard on Shanghai, castigating China's second city for its prewar status as a playground of gangsters and colonial adventurers. And so it was. In its heyday, the 1920s and '30s, cosmopolitan Shanghai was a dynamic melting pot for people, ideas and money from all over the planet. Business boomed, fortunes were made, and everything seemed possible. It was a time of breakneck industrial progress, swaggering confidence and smoky jazz venues. Thanks to economic reforms implemented in the 1980s by Deng Xiaoping, Shanghai's commercial potential has reemerged and is flourishing again. Stand today on the historic Bund and look across the Huangpu River. The soaring 1,614-ft/492-m Shanghai World Financial Center tower looms over the ambitious skyline of the Pudong financial district. Alongside it are other key landmarks: the glittering, 88- story Jinmao Building; the rocket-shaped Oriental Pearl TV Tower; and the Shanghai Stock Exchange. The 128-story Shanghai Tower is the tallest building in China (and, after the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the second-tallest in the world). Glass-and-steel skyscrapers reach for the clouds, Mercedes sedans cruise the neon-lit streets, luxury- brand boutiques stock all the stylish trappings available in New York, and the restaurant, bar and clubbing scene pulsates with an energy all its own. Perhaps more than any other city in Asia, Shanghai has the confidence and sheer determination to forge a glittering future as one of the world's most important commercial centers.

Making Invisible Riders Visible: Motivations for Bicycling and Public Transit Use among Latino Immigrants By Jesus Miguel Barajas A dissertation submitted in partial satisfaction of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in City and Regional Planning in the Graduate Division of the University of California, Berkeley Committee in charge: Professor Daniel G. Chatman, Chair Professor Robert Cervero Professor Paul Waddell Professor Joan Walker Summer 2016 Abstract Making Invisible Riders Visible: Motivations for Bicycling and Public Transit Use among Latino Immigrants by Jesus Miguel Barajas Doctor of Philosophy in City and Regional Planning University of California, Berkeley Professor Daniel G. Chatman, Chair Immigrants now comprise the largest share of the population of the United States since 1850, with continued increases projected into the foreseeable future. Most foreign-born residents come from Latin America and other developing countries. Nationwide, they tend to travel by cheaper and more sustainable modes of transportation upon arrival, gradually adopting American habits of driving over time. A challenge for planners concerned with reducing the impact of automobile travel and providing an equitable transportation system is to understand and capitalize on the motivations for immigrant travel that would allow them to meet their travel needs without relying on cars. In this mixed-methods dissertation, I investigate three questions about the nature of how immigrants travel in the San Francisco Bay Area, a fairly transit- and bicycle-friendly metropolitan region, with these sustainability and equity questions in mind: 1. How do travel patterns differ between low-income immigrants and other population sub- groups? 2. What influences cycling among immigrants and non-immigrants? More specifically, to what extent do individual factors, the social environment, and the built environment predict bicy- cling, and how do their effects differ between immigrants and non-immigrants? 3.
