Finally, we arrive in Saklikent Gorge – the second largest gorge in the world. Optional swimming and rafting will be available here. This sounds exciting but it misses the atmosphere of the Blue Cruise that is almost spiritual. As you board your yacht, you also cut the mental ties with land. You embark on a di#erent existence, as if nothing else matters outside your yacht, or even exists for that matter. What makes the Blue Cruise unique is the lack of requirements and responsibilities - at last the freedom to do absolutely nothing and with it, a complete freedom of mind. You can gaze at the sea for hours on end, you can swim everyday, sleep all day or you can finish that book that you weren’t able to finish for ages because of the lack of time. However if you want “action” to spend your time, you will never be at a loss to find yourself activities to try either. When the yacht is anchored, you can discover nearby coves by canoes; you can cover greater distance than swimming and its good exercise for your biceps! Or you can hail down one of the speed boats that tour the coves and bargain for water skiing, jetskis or banana rides. And it goes without saying that you can hike and climb to your heart’s content the pine and olive covered hills that rise from the shore to discover historical ruins from Lycians, Anatolian Greeks, Romans, Byzantines and Ottomans.

Cilician was divided into the Mountains (Taşeli Peninsula) and Lowland Cilicia (Çukurova) regions. Further east behind the Amonos Mountains, Antiokheia (Antakya), was a completely seperate region. All these regions were shaken by numerous earthquakes produced by main fault systems from the Aegean Sea and Mediterranean. The major geological structures are Hellenic Trench, East Anatolian Fault, Ecemiş Fault and Dead Sea Fault in the region. Along with material destruction, earthquakes also result in tectonic rising of lands. This rising fills in ports and speeds up the process of ports getting shallow. Another negative consequence of earthquakes is the drying up of the water sources or the changing of their banks. Archaeological, geological, hydrochemical and surface elevation data, as well as 14C age dating constrain a paleo-hydrogeological model, explaining the submergence of the city foundation walls below the groundwater table. In this model, tectonically induced subsidence of the acropolis (Toçak Dağı) initiated a debris flow into the area of the lower city. Both, natural and anthropogenic gravel accumulation resulted in the formation of a new aquifer pathway redirecting formerly bypassing karst water into the city center.
