  • Notes on British Dinosaurs. Part I: Hypsilophodon
Dr. Francis Baron Nopcsa—British Dinosaurs. 203 II.—NOTES ON BRITISH DINOSAURS. PAET I: ffrpsiLOPHODOK. By Dr. FRANCIS BARON NOPCSA. (WITH A PAGE-ILLUSTRATION.) URING a recent stay in London the kindness of Dr. A. S. Woodward enabled me to study some of the splendid Dinosaurian remainD s in the British Museum. Having principally occupied myself till now with Ornithopodous Dinosaurs, first of all Hypsilophodon attracted my attention, and my expectation that this type would prove to be the clue for the- understanding of all the other Orthopoda has been perfectly fulfilled. Hypsilophodon was described and figured at various times by Owen, Huxley, and Hulke; a restoration of this animal was given by Marsh in the GEOLOGICAL MAGAZINE for 1896 (p. 6, Fig. 2), and the complete bibliographical list concerning this Dinosaur is compiled in my paper "Synopsis und Abstammung der Dinosaurier" (Foldtani Xozlony, 1901, Budapest). In consequence of our more recent knowledge of Dinosaurs in general I managed to detect some new points of remarkable interest. Mandible. What Hulke, in describing the Hypsilophodon skull, No. 110, supposed to be the parietal, frontal, and post-frontal bones (Phil. Trans., 1882, pi. lxxi, fig. 1, pa., fr., ps.f.), turned out to be the outer view of a complete right mandibular ramus, so that the parietal changes into an articular, the frontal becomes the dentary, and the post-frontal the coronoid bone. This piece (p. 207, Fig. 4) is, in fact, the finest mandibulum of Hypsilophodon I have seen in the whole collection, and as such worthy to be refigured. The general outline of the mandibulum, with its strongly ab- breviated post-coronoidal part and its blunt processus coronoideum, reminds one somewhat of the under jaw of Placodus gigas, though it differs of course in nearly every detail, being built up after the Iguanodon type.

COMMUNICATIONS OF THE YEARBOOK OF THE ROYAL HUNGARIAN GEOLOGICAL IMPERIAL INSTITUTE ================================================================== VOL. XXIII, NUMBER 1. ================================================================== THE DINOSAURS OF THE TRANSYLVANIAN PROVINCE IN HUNGARY. BY Dr. FRANZ BARON NOPCSA. WITH PLATES I-IV AND 3 FIGURES IN THE TEXT. Published by The Royal Hungarian Geological Imperial Institute which is subject to The Royal Hungarian Agricultural Ministry BUDAPEST. BOOK-PUBLISHER OF THE FRANKLIN ASSOCIATION. 1915. THE DINOSAURS OF THE TRANSYLVANIAN PROVINCE IN HUNGARY. BY Dr. FRANZ BARON NOPCSA. WITH PLATES I-IV AND 3 FIGURES IN THE TEXT. Mit. a. d. Jahrb. d. kgl. ungar. Geolog. Reichsanst. XXIII. Bd. 1 heft I. Introduction. Since it appears doubtful when my monographic description of the dinosaurs of Transylvania1 that formed my so-to-speak preparatory works to my current dinosaur studies can be completed, due on one hand to outside circumstances, but on the other hand to the new arrangement of the vertebrate material in the kgl. ungar. geologischen Reichsanstalt accomplished by Dr. KORMOS, the necessity emerged of also exhibiting some of the dinosaur material located here, so that L. v. LÓCZY left the revision to me; I view the occasion, already briefly anticipating my final work at this point, to give diagnoses of the dinosaurs from the Transylvanian Cretaceous known up to now made possible from a systematic division of the current material, as well as to discuss their biology. The reptile remains known from the Danian of Transylvania will be mentioned only incidentally. Concerning the literature, I believe in refraining from more exact citations, since this work presents only a preliminary note.

  • Inferring Body Mass in Extinct Terrestrial Vertebrates and the Evolution of Body Size in a Model-Clade of Dinosaurs (Ornithopoda)
Inferring Body Mass in Extinct Terrestrial Vertebrates and the Evolution of Body Size in a Model-Clade of Dinosaurs (Ornithopoda) by Nicolás Ernesto José Campione Ruben A thesis submitted in conformity with the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Ecology and Evolutionary Biology University of Toronto © Copyright by Nicolás Ernesto José Campione Ruben 2013 Inferring body mass in extinct terrestrial vertebrates and the evolution of body size in a model-clade of dinosaurs (Ornithopoda) Nicolás E. J. Campione Ruben Doctor of Philosophy Ecology and Evolutionary Biology University of Toronto 2013 Abstract Organismal body size correlates with almost all aspects of ecology and physiology. As a result, the ability to infer body size in the fossil record offers an opportunity to interpret extinct species within a biological, rather than simply a systematic, context. Various methods have been proposed by which to estimate body mass (the standard measure of body size) that center on two main approaches: volumetric reconstructions and extant scaling. The latter are particularly contentious when applied to extinct terrestrial vertebrates, particularly stem-based taxa for which living relatives are difficult to constrain, such as non-avian dinosaurs and non-therapsid synapsids, resulting in the use of volumetric models that are highly influenced by researcher bias. However, criticisms of scaling models have not been tested within a comprehensive extant dataset. Based on limb measurements of 200 mammals and 47 reptiles, linear models were generated between limb measurements (length and circumference) and body mass to test the hypotheses that phylogenetic history, limb posture, and gait drive the relationship between stylopodial circumference and body mass as critics suggest.

Borinder ISSN 1650-6553 Copyright © Niclas H. Borinder and the Department of Earth Sciences, Uppsala University Published at Department of Earth Sciences, Uppsala University (www.geo.uu.se), Uppsala, 2015 Abstract Postcranial Anatomy of Tanius Sinensis Wiman, 1929 (Dinosauria; Hadrosauroidea) Niclas H. Borinder Tanius sinensis Wiman, 1929 was one of the first hadrosauroid or “duck-billed” taxa erected from China, indeed one of the very first non-avian dinosaur taxa to be erected based on material from the country. Since the original description by Wiman in 1929, the anatomy of T. sinensis has received relatively little attention in the literature since then. This is unfortunate given the importance of T. sinensis as a possible non-hadrosaurid hadrosauroid i.e. a member of Hadrosauroidea outside the family of Hadrosauridae, living in the Late Cretaceous, at a time when most non-hadrosaurid hadro- sauroids had become replaced by the members of Hadrosauridae. To gain a better understanding of the anatomy of T. sinensis and its phylogenetic relationships, the postcranial anatomy of it is redescribed. T. sinensis is found to have a mosaic of basal traits like strongly opisthocoelous cervical vertebrae, the proximal end of scapula being dorsoventrally wider than the distal end, the ratio between the proximodistal length of the metatarsal III and the mediolateral width of this element being greater than 4.5.

  • The Dinosaur Field Guide Supplement
The Dinosaur Field Guide Supplement September 2010 – December 2014 By, Zachary Perry (ZoPteryx) Page 1 Disclaimer: This supplement is intended to be a companion for Gregory S. Paul’s impressive work The Princeton Field Guide to Dinosaurs, and as such, exhibits some similarities in format, text, and taxonomy. This was done solely for reasons of aesthetics and consistency between his book and this supplement. The text and art are not necessarily reflections of the ideals and/or theories of Gregory S. Paul. The author of this supplement was limited to using information that was freely available from public sources, and so more information may be known about a given species then is written or illustrated here. Should this information become freely available, it will be included in future supplements. For genera that have been split from preexisting genera, or when new information about a genus has been discovered, only minimal text is included along with the page number of the corresponding entry in The Princeton Field Guide to Dinosaurs. Genera described solely from inadequate remains (teeth, claws, bone fragments, etc.) are not included, unless the remains are highly distinct and cannot clearly be placed into any other known genera; this includes some genera that were not included in Gregory S. Paul’s work, despite being discovered prior to its publication. All artists are given full credit for their work in the form of their last name, or lacking this, their username, below their work. Modifications have been made to some skeletal restorations for aesthetic reasons, but none affecting the skeleton itself.

Some of the diagnostic features of Changmiania liaoningensis nov. gen., nov. sp. are tentatively interpreted as adaptations to a fossorial behavior, including: fused premaxillae; nasal laterally expanded, overhanging the maxilla; shortened neck formed by only six cervical vertebrae; neural spines of the sacral vertebrae completely fused together, forming a craniocaudally-elongated continuous bar; fused scapulocoracoid with prominent

Known from its dentary, Qantassaurus intrepidus Rich and Vickers-Rich, 1999 has been the only dinosaur named from this locality. However, the plethora of vertebrate fossils collected from Flat Rocks suggests that further dinosaurs await discovery. From this locality, we name a new small-bodied ornithopod, Galleonosaurus dorisae n.

  • Telmatosaurus and the Other Hadrosaurids of the Cretaceous European Archipelago
0 Natura Nascosta Numero 39 Anno 2009 pp. 1-18 Figure 15 TELMATOSAURUS AND THE OTHER HADROSAUROIDS OF THE CRETACEOUS EUROPEAN ARCHIPELAGO. AN UPDATE. Fabio M. Dalla Vecchia Institut Català de Paleontologia (ICP), E-08193 Cerdanyola del Vallès, SPAIN and Museo della Rocca di Monfalcone – Sezione Paleontologica, I-34074 Monfalcone, ITALY Abstract – The paper “ Telmatosaurus and the other hadrosaurids of the Cretaceous European Archipelago. An overview” published in Natura Nascosta on 2006 is updated. Obsolete information and wrong data are corrected to avoid future confusion. I opt now for a different, less inclusive definition of “hadrosaurid” (Hadrosauridae). The attribution of the whole hadrosauroid material found in the Maastrichtian of Transylvania (Romania) to a single species is considered doubtful and should be proved. Some problems regarding the hypodigm of Telmatosaurus transsylvanicus are evident after a study of the Nopcsa Collection in the Natural History Museum in London. The stratigraphy of the uppermost Cretaceous of northern Spain became clear after visiting the sites. Pararhabdodon has been recently reviewed and the new lambeosaurine Arenysaurus ardevoli was added to the short list of the European hadrosauroid species. Key words – Telmatosaurus transsylvanicus , European hadrosauroids, Ferenc Nopcsa, Maastrichtian. Introduction When three years ago I published the paper “ Telmatosaurus and the other hadrosaurids of the Cretaceous European Archipelago. An overview”, I had not studied yet the Nopcsa Collection at the Natural History Museum in London. I had the chance to do it later, in the January 2007, thanks to a SYNTHESYS grant of the European Union for the project “ Study of the iguanodontian dinosaurs from the Late Cretaceous site of the Villaggio del Pescatore (Trieste, Italy) and comparison with the hadrosaurid material of the Nopcsa collection at the Natural History Museum ”.
