2019 LONTAR CATALOGUE 2019 THE LONTAR FOUNDATION Since its establishment in 1987, the Lontar Foundation of Jakarta has carried on its shoulders the mission of improving international awareness of Indonesian literature and culture, primarily throught the publication of Indonesian literary translations. Lontar’s Publications Division, the backbone of the organization, has the significant task of determining which literary works are to be translated so as to reflect Indonesia’s cultural wealth. The Lontar Foundation publishes books under four imprints: Lontar, BTW, Amanah, and Godown. All titles released prior to 2002 (when Godown and Amanah were established) carried the Lontar imprint. ABOUT THE FILM Lewat Djam Malam (After the Curfew) is a passionate work looking directly at a crucial moment of conflict in Indonesian history: the aftermath of the four-year Republican revolution which brought an end to Dutch rule. This is a visually and dramatically potent film about anger and disillusionment, about the dream of a new society cheapened and misshapen by government repression on the one hand and bourgeois complacency on the other. The film’s director, Usmar Ismail, is generally considered to be the father of Indonesian cinema, and his entire body of work was directly engaged with ongoing evolution of Indonesian society. -

The Komedie Stamboel, also known as the Malay Opera, occupies a prom- inent place in Indonesia's cultural history.1 lts emergence in 1891 has been characterized as a 'landmark' in the development of modern popular theatre (Teeuw 1979:207). The theatre later contributed greatly to the birth of Indo- nesian contemporary theatre and film2 and played a formative role in mod- ern political discourse and representation (see Anderson 1996:36-7). In addition, any quotation or extract must include full attribution. 1 Abstract Classic Indonesian exploitation films (originally produced, distributed, and exhibited in the New Order’s Indonesia from 1979 to 1995) are commonly negligible in both national and transnational cinema contexts, in the discourses of film criticism, journalism, and studies. Nonetheless, in the 2000s, there has been a global interest in re-circulating and consuming this kind of films. The films are internationally considered as “cult movies” and celebrated by global fans. This thesis will focus on the cultural traffic of the films, from late 1970s to early 2010s, from Indonesia to other countries. By analyzing the global flows of the films I will argue that despite the marginal status of the films, classic Indonesian exploitation films become the center of a taste battle among a variety of interest groups and agencies. The process will include challenging the official history of Indonesian cinema by investigating the framework of cultural traffic as well as politics of taste, and highlighting the significance of exploitation and B-films, paving the way into some findings that recommend accommodating the movies in serious discourses on cinema, nationally and globally. -

Dalam langkahnya sebagai guru muda yang ingin menerapkan ilmunya di tengah masyarakat ia menemui banyak sekali tantangan dan lika-liku dalam kehidupannya, namun semua itu ia hadapi dengan keikhlasan dan kesabaran serta perjuangan. Kemudian yang menjadi pertanyaan utama adalah bagaimana gagasan atau wacana yang terdapat dalam film Titian Serambut Dibelah Tujuh yang di sutradarai oleh Chaerul umam? Selanjutnya akan melahirkan sub-question mengenai nilai-nilai moral apa saja yang terdapat dalam film titian serambut dibelah tujuh ini? Metode yang digunakan adalah analisis wacana dari model Teun Van Dijk. Dalam model Van Dijk ada tiga dimensi yang menjadi objek penelitiannya, yaitu dimensi teks, kognisi sosial, dan juga konteks sosial adalah pandangan atau pemahaman komunikator terhadap situasi yang melatar belakangi dibuatnya film tersebut. Sedangkan dimensi teks adalah susunan struktur teks yang terdapat dalam film ini. Jika dianalisa, secara umum guru Ibrahim dalam film titian serambut dibelah tujuh ini hendak mengkonstruksi tema besar yakni tentang keikhlasan, kesabaran dan perjuangan menegakkan amar ma’ruf nahi munkar serta cobaan yang dihadapinya. -

There is still a debate on film and literature relationship. Some argued that films and videos were in the opposite site of language activities, that is, films and videos tried to present the concrete, particular, and sensational forms of life. While others argued that films might be the objects of literary researches. This article aims at exploring the relationship of films and literature and uncovering the position of films as the object of research of literature students. Films and literatue’s relationship cannot be separated from the activity of adapting literary work into movie, or ecranisation. Ecranisation theory bridges the relationship of film and literature and make a film suitable object of a literary research. Yet, there are some who argue that a film which is not the product of ecranisation can become the object of a literary research under the umbrella of culture study, that everything may undergo a redefinition. Key words: literature, film, ecranisation, text, redefinition Pendahuluan Dari fenomena tersebut, sastra dan Sastra dan film adalah dua hal film adalah peluang yang paling mudah yang akrab dalam kehidupan manusia saat bagi manusia mengisi ruang sunyi untuk ini. Di antara hiruk pikuk aktivitas sehari- mendapatkan pleasure. Novel, misalnya, hari, sastra dan film hadir sebagai alternatif dapat dibawa kemana saja dan dibaca saat yang gampang ditemui untuk santai atau di waktu senggang. Demikian menghilangkan kebosanan, mengatasi juga film, sepulang kerja atau ketika kejenuhan, dan mengusir kepenatan di sela- liburan, orang dapat pergi ke biosskop sela pekerjaan. -

Tepatnya pada malam purnama, hari Kamis, atau malam Jumat. Saya tidak dekat dengan mas Willy — sapaan penyair besar kelahiran 7 November 1935 itu. Namun saya sempat main ke Bengkel Teater beberapa kali, di tengah malam tua, dan diterima langsung dengan hati terbuka oleh mas Willy. Biasanya, begitu saya dan penyair Doddy Achmad Fauzy tiba di sana, mas Willy akan menghimpum pasukannya yang tersisa. Lalu mendongeng tentang apa saja, kepada kami semua. Seperti biasa pula, kami hanya mengamini apa yang dikatakannya. Kalau ceritanya lucu, kami terbahak tentu saja. Saat itu, awal tahun 2000-an, kesehatan mas Willy masih baik- baik saja. Da- lam bentuknja sebagai hasil industri, film terpaut kepada soal-soal ekonomi dan keuangan, serta kepada soal perdagangan ataupun peredaran dan pertundjukan. Lain dari pada itu, film dia pandang sebagai suatu tehnik jang diperoleh dari dunia Barat, karena itu seolah-olah tanaman asing jang ditumbuhkan kepada bumi Indonesia, sebab itu djuga tum- buhnja banjak bergantung kepada ketjintaan dan perhatian si punja kebun.
