BOX RULES CLARIFICATIONS

HITS FROM BEHIND – This is probably the biggest difference between box and field. The hit from behind is the most dangerous hit in box. A hit from behind is never a call. A minimum of a 2 minute minor will be assessed. If the hit from behind occurs near the boards a 5 minute major should be assessed.

MOVING SCREENS – For our league this is what will be allowed. If a players feet are set they will be allowed to lean, initiate contact with their cross on their opponents hip. If a players feet move during contact a moving screen/pick will be called and possession will be awarded to the defensive team. Note: contact must be made for a moving screen to be called.

CROSS CHECKS – A legal cross check is defined as a check applied with the portion of the stick held between the hands on an opponent: - From the front or side - Below the shoulders - Above the waist( the hip is ok) - The extension of the arms while the check is being delivered is permissible. - Off- player when inside the defensive zone Illegal cross checks are defined as: - Applied below the waist - Applied on top of the shoulder - Applied when an opponent is not on their feet - Applied on a non-ball carrier outside the defensive zone FACEOFFS – For this league face-offs will be conducted similar to field. Players will be allowed to turn their pocket “inside/out”.

CREASE – According to the rules an offensive player may be in the crease as long as he/she doesn’t possess the ball. If the offensive player is in the crease when a is scored the goal will be disallowed. If an offensive player checks the ’s stick while the goalkeeper is in the crease a 2-minute minor will be assessed. If an offensive player interferes with an opposing player while he (the offensive player) is in the crease a 2-minute minor penalty will be assessed for checking in the crease. If a riding player runs through the opponents’ crease to check a clearing ball carrier a 2-minute minor penalty will be assessed. If a player runs through the opponents crease to gain an advantage on a loose ball the ball will be awarded to the opposing team.

POWER PLAY SITUATIONS – During a power play the team that is shorthanded will not have a 30-second . They will however have 10-seconds to “clear” the ball into their offensive end and be required to keep the ball in their offensive end. (similar to a “get it in keep it in” in field) If the ball crosses the mid- it will be a turnover.

PENALTIES – All penalties are first in first out. If multiply players are serving 2 minute minors upon a goal being scored the first player in the box will be released. In the event the players were assessed their penalties at the same time it will be the choice of the coach which player gets release. In the event of a 5 minute major. The player shall serve the entire 5 minutes in the . After the second goal of the powerplay the coach may replace the offending player from a player on his bench. The player will serve the entire 5 minutes and will only be allowed to leave the box on a stoppage of play (Stoppage is goal scored, faceoff or timeout). If a player is assessed a major and a minor penalty. The player shall serve the entire major (usually 5 minutes) before beginning the 2 minute minor.

KICKING THE BALL - Kicking of the ball is allowed, but a ball may not be kicked directly into the goal.

WRAP AROUND CHECKS – A minor penalty shall be assessed to a player who impedes the progress of an opponent with his/her stick or arm in a holding fashion. Stick on stick contact must be made on these one-handed checks or a 2 minute minor penalty for holding shall be assessed. Note: The “icepick” check is not allowed in box and shall be assessed a 2 minute minor penalty.
