KALENA YEARWOOD GRADUATION YEAR: 2019 SPORTS: Basketball and Track/Field SINCE MY TIME AT IHS, I…Currently, I am a sophomore at Ithaca College (IC) studying politics and sociology, and minoring in Education Studies. Since leaving IHS, I have pursued other community and leadership opportunities at IC. I am a thrower on the IC Women's Track and Field team, a Martin Luther King Scholar, the Civic Engagement Liaison in the IC Ujima Black Student Union, and an Orientation Leader. Currently, I am serving as the Student Trustee on the Ithaca College Board of Trustee, Additionally, since IHS, I have volunteered as a tutor for students in middle and high school. In my free time, I work as a cosmetologist at a local salon (I got my cosmetology degree/certification during high school). ADVICE FOR CURRENT LITTLE RED: I would strongly encourage Ithaca Little Red student-athletes to always strive to envision success in your respective sports, within the classroom, and any other extracurricular activities. Remember your "why," the passions that first inspired you to pursue becoming athletes in your sports. Most importantly, always dream big, and strive for unimaginable goals, because although you might not be able to see the path ahead, just know that you are capable of doing anything and everything you set your mind to. Never underestimate yourselves because it always important to remember that each and every one of you has the power to achieve the goals you set for yourselves. Remember to take time to appreciate, cherish, and reflect on the moments you have with your loved ones, friends, coaches, mentors, teammates, and others who serve as influential people within your lives. These people make up your "village," and may help you discover opportunities, lessons, or potential interests that you may have never been aware of before. Lastly, high school is only ONE chapter of your life. Whether your high school experience (so far) has been memorable, disappointing, exciting or upsetting, just remember that there is always life after high school. This chapter will teach you lessons about yourself, but it does not have to determine your entire future. It is simply one piece of your puzzle. ADVICE FOR CURRENT LITTLE RED: Stay consistent, listen to your coaches, but don’t forget to have some fun! It’s okay to make mistakes, as long as you learn from them, so don’t be so hard on yourself :) you only get your high school experience once so make sure you find ways to enjoy it! Destination of 2019 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Transfers

DESTINATION OF 2019 NCAA DIVISION I MEN’S BASKETBALL TRANSFERS January 2020 Summary of Findings Although the Division I Transfer Portal opened in October 2018, there was no substantial change in the number of transfers in Division I men’s basketball from 2018 to 2019. Consistent with the past four years of transfer data, about half of men’s basketball transfers remain in Division I, while a quarter transfer to Division II and a quarter transfer out of the NCAA (NAIA, NJCAA, etc.). Fewer than 1 in 10 are “up transfers” (transferring to a more prestigious program), while about 30% are “lateral transfers” and 60% are “down transfers.” This pattern has remained consistent over time. Of those men’s basketball transfers remaining in Division I, nearly one third are so-called “graduate transfers.” This percentage has remained relatively consistent over the past four years. Graduate transfers are more likely to “up transfer” than undergraduate transfers in men’s basketball. Identifying 2019 Transfers in Division I Men’s Basketball Transfers were identified by merging the 2019 Division I Basketball Transfers list from the Verbal Commits website (downloaded Sept. 15, 2019) with all Division I men’s basketball student-athletes listed in the 2018-19 Transfer Portal. List destination accuracy was determined primarily through: The “matriculated” institution listed in the student’s status field in the Transfer Portal. 2019-20 men’s basketball roster of destination institution and/or student-athlete bio. Secondary sources: • NJCAA National Letter of Intent Signee Database. • Official press releases from either/both institution(s). • Transfer student-athletes’ Twitter feed or other social media footprint (Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.).

It’s our sixth year of operation and it looks like our theme for the year will be growth. In March, the Pentagon hosted 59 postseason college basketball games. Among those were three national championships – the fi rst ever combined NCAA Division II men’s and women’s Elite Eight, as well as the NAIA Division II men’s championship. The NAIA then honored the Sanford Sports Complex with its annual Best NAIA Championship Venue Award. The award is a testament to the facility and our incredible sta that make it come to life. This spring ushered in several big announcements about new additions coming to the Complex. The Summit League announced the relocation of its headquarters to Sioux Falls, a more centralized location within the organization’s footprint. We are proud to welcome them to Sioux Falls. Will’s Training Table is undergoing an extensive remodel this year. When it reopens in February the destination restaurant and bar will have more than doubled in size. The Complex is a hub of activity, and that will only continue with the addition of a 180,000-square-foot Mills Fleet Farm store and Great Shots, a new golf entertainment facility.

2 Butts the Lacrosse Scoop Is a Technique Used to Gain Possession of the Ball When It Is on the Ground

Teaching Lacrosse Fundamentals Lacrosse Scoop -2 Butts The lacrosse scoop is a technique used to gain possession of the ball when it is on the ground. The scoop happens as a player moves toward the ball. It is the primary ball recovery technique when a ball is loose and on the ground. In order to perform it the player should drop the head of the stick to the ground and the stick handle should almost but not quite parallel with the ground only a few inches off the ground. The concept is similar to how you would scoop poop (pardon the expression) with a shovel off the concrete. With a quick scoop and then angle upward to keep the ball forced into the deep part of the pocket and from rolling back out. Once in the pocket the player will transition to a cradle, pass, or shot. Recap & Strategies: • Groundball Technique – One hand high on stick, other at butt end – Foot next to ball – Bend knees – 2 butts low – Scoop thru before ball • Groundball Strategies – 1-on-1 –importance of body position - 3 feet before ball can create contact and be physical – 1 –on -2 – consider a flick or kick to a teammate in open space – Scrum – from outside look for ball – get low and burst thru middle getting low as possible – If getting beat to a groundball to drive thru the butt end of the stick – 2–on-1 – man – ball strategy • one person take man, one take ball • Player closest to the ball must attack the ball as if there is no help until communication occurs • Explain the teammate behind is the “QB” telling the person chasing the ball what to do – ie “Take the Man” means turnaround and hinder the opponent so your teammate can get the ball.
