KALENA YEARWOOD GRADUATION YEAR: 2019 SPORTS: Basketball and Track/Field SINCE MY TIME AT IHS, I…Currently, I am a sophomore at Ithaca College (IC) studying politics and sociology, and minoring in Education Studies. Since leaving IHS, I have pursued other community and leadership opportunities at IC. I am a thrower on the IC Women's Track and Field team, a Martin Luther King Scholar, the Civic Engagement Liaison in the IC Ujima Black Student Union, and an Orientation Leader. Currently, I am serving as the Student Trustee on the Ithaca College Board of Trustee, Additionally, since IHS, I have volunteered as a tutor for students in middle and high school. In my free time, I work as a cosmetologist at a local salon (I got my cosmetology degree/certification during high school). ADVICE FOR CURRENT LITTLE RED: I would strongly encourage Ithaca Little Red student-athletes to always strive to envision success in your respective sports, within the classroom, and any other extracurricular activities. Remember your "why," the passions that first inspired you to pursue becoming athletes in your sports. Most importantly, always dream big, and strive for unimaginable goals, because although you might not be able to see the path ahead, just know that you are capable of doing anything and everything you set your mind to. Never underestimate yourselves because it always important to remember that each and every one of you has the power to achieve the goals you set for yourselves. Remember to take time to appreciate, cherish, and reflect on the moments you have with your loved ones, friends, coaches, mentors, teammates, and others who serve as influential people within your lives. These people make up your "village," and may help you discover opportunities, lessons, or potential interests that you may have never been aware of before. Lastly, high school is only ONE chapter of your life. Whether your high school experience (so far) has been memorable, disappointing, exciting or upsetting, just remember that there is always life after high school. This chapter will teach you lessons about yourself, but it does not have to determine your entire future. It is simply one piece of your puzzle.
