FSU Alumni To some extent, that does describe more than half of my generation but the other part, the minority, is where I belong… motivated, Association’s determined, and confident. High school has opened my eyes to various leadership roles that have contributed to the person I am today Legacy including, but not limited to, student government and varsity/competitive cheerleading. At Florida State University I plan on exceeding the Scholarship, mission, vision, and values set out for me by the university and the Florida State University Alumni Association. describe how This summer I start my journey at FSU and I couldn’t be more thrilled. My plans include enriching the community as soon as possible by you would getting active in student government, clubs, and Greek life. I get my eagerness to get involved from my first year in high school. I was voted uphold and into student government freshman year and with hard work and time, junior year, I achieved my goal of becoming class president. My leadership will also aid in my connections with new faces and mission, vision hopefully new life-long friendships at Florida State. and values. As a cheerleader, we are known to be peppy, outgoing, and optimistic…I happen to have all of those traits. I cheered all four years of high school on the varsity team and the competitive team. Over those years I gained a great deal of knowledge on what it takes to have 20 girls come together as one and reach a goal. I believe at Florida State I will bring spirit to the games and events that will be contagious to my fellow Seminoles. Since I grew up going to Florida State football games I’ve gotten a taste of the passion each of the fans in the possess and that makes me want to wave my arm harder and scream our chant louder. When I attended the games as a little girl it would always be my whole family: all four of us. Growing up, my parents did an exceptional job at instilling family as a priority in my brother and me. Every year my family and I take a beach vacation consisting of days lounging or swimming in the ocean, and nights laughing at the silly board games we would take along with us. Those memories are irreplaceable and I plan on making countless more at FSU when I rush a sorority in the fall. The fundamental reason I chose to continue my education at Florida State University is precisely the values the Alumni Association instill. Not every school has the spirit, family, tradition, greatness, and leadership that FSU both stresses and embraces. All of the values listed describe my outlook, mindset, and characteristics I have evolved to possess in my lifetime and I wouldn’t be able to say that without my family pushing me to what I thought was my limits and a little further. If I had the honor to receive this illustrious scholarship I will use it to my advantage and uphold and exceed the expectations placed upon me with great pride. Florida State creates many opportunities to challenge a student to excel through rigorous classes, intriguing clubs, an engaging Greek life, and much more that I will gladly embrace.

If a current nole or future nole needs help, I stop what I am doing to lend a hand. Giving credit to others for their accomplishments not their failures encourages others to work harder. Telling someone their effort was good, now, let’s see what we can do to make it better, gets better results than telling someone that wasn’t good enough, do it again. I don’t believe there is a greater value than inspiring greatness from within others. I used to believe that being the youngest of five girls in my family made me just part of the “McKeen Clan” and eventually the final one to join the ‘Nole Nation’. Now I KNOW that being a part of the Seminole Family is so much more than that.

One of the FSU Alumni University's premier schools of study is the FSU School of Music. That is the school in which I will be focusing on for the next few years and the Association’s school in which people will look at how I contributed to the program. FSU's program is already looked at as one of the most elite and Legacy prestigious in the country and I want to do nothing but further that reputation. I think I have most definitely improved my current high Scholarship, school's reputation with my musical accomplishments and I plan to extend that into my college career. Whether it comes from the sounds I describe how make on the trumpet, or the sounds of an orchestra I conduct, I plan to display the true value of FSU's program in the several performances I you would will take part in. I have always found that music not only enriches my life, but the life of others around me, musical or non-musical. Just as I uphold and will advance the University's position as stated in the Association's vision through my music, I will do the same but in a way in which my advance the reputation isn't important. What is important is that the students and alumni of Florida State University lives can be enriched by mine and association’s others talents through music and through the time that students like myself put in so that they can make Florida State one of the most mission, vision pleasant and enriching institutions in the world. Florida State University already has a tradition of this, and if awarded this scholarship, I will and values. use it to further that tradition for years to come so that those that succeed me can do the same in that same great environment. Not only will this be accomplished through my musical talent but my leadership will also be a factor. I have been a drum major in a critically acclaimed and award winning high school marching band for two years and a young conductor not only in my state, but around the country, forming ensembles that benefit the community and seek no profit. I plan to bring that leadership ability to Florida State so that the Seminole family can enjoy the music my ensembles and the listeners of the marching band if I am so fortunate as to become Drum Major of the Marching Chiefs one day. I believe I have exhibited the greatness of my musical ability and how I portray that talent with such spirit and passion. That greatness and spirit will, along with my sole abilities, go towards tightening the Seminole family and community and uniting them through the power of music. We have seen multiple times in history such as Woodstock and even as simple as a great local symphony concert how musical events can bring people together and I believe that I will replicate that (at of course a smaller scale) at Florida State and bring people together to come and hear beautiful sounds as one family - the Seminole family.

The responsibilities of raising me certainly curtailed some of the time that they had to dedicate to the club and its and values. mission, however we remained members and still to this day attend game watching parties and other events every chance we get. The association’s values of Family, Spirit and Tradition are an integral part of all of the Seminole Clubs around the country. In whatever city that I land in after graduating from Florida State, I plan on being an active member of that city’s Seminole Club and if a club doesn’t exist yet, I will start one.

The association’s vision of uniting the Seminole family and advancing FSU’s position among the nation’s top public universities is certainly well under way, however it is and always will be an ongoing endeavor. Throughout my childhood and teen years I have been involved with student council, heart patient outreach and have held leadership roles on the JV and Varsity athletic teams that I played for while attending high school. Community service has been a school requirement for me since the 4th grade and now it just seems a natural part of my life. I plan on leveraging these leadership and community service experiences combined with my educational opportunities while both at FSU and after I graduate.

The most effective way to advance FSU’s position among its university peers is one graduate at a time. Upon graduation and throughout our post FSU journey we have to apply the association’s values of Leadership and Greatness in our professional and personal lives. These skills along with the rigorous academics that being students at FSU affords us won’t go unnoticed by our professional and personal peers. This is how the association’s Mission, Vision and Values will be advanced one graduate at a time, and I plan on helping to lead the way both as a student and a proud graduate of Florida State University.

Every committee meeting I observed, alumni gathering I attended with my mom, or athletic competition I cheered for in the presence of FSU alumni provided me myriad living examples of how leadership looked, sounded, and behaved—I witnessed a spirit of excellence! So, it is no surprise that I lead. I have found myself in leadership roles as early as elementary school where I won the presidency by promising I would bring Soulja Boy to our school and ensure pizza and hot dogs as a regular lunch offering (I only accomplished one goal). I’ve come to the understanding, across this journey, that leadership is bigger than a promise or a title, but more about service and a commitment to improving my community. I learned the importance of executing a task in a timely fashion, while inspiring members of my team to be their best selves—this is no easy task! Through my mom and her Seminole family’s example, I’ve embraced excellence and community as the goal of every task.

I’m not perfect, nobody is. I have learned that being a leader does not make you perfect. Leadership is a journey. The next level of the journey is much clearer, however, because my Seminole family has inspired me through their spirit of greatness (tradition) and leadership to contribute to FSU’s ever advancing position as one of the nation’s greatest public universities!

I was able to witness firsthand the education and career relationships my mother received through her schooling at FSU. Because of this, FSU has always been my #1 choice and my mother has always been my #1 alumni inspiration. I hope to be this inspiration as an alumni one day to others.

As a student who is very involved on campus, I have adopted many leadership skills along the way. Being the Treasurer and one of the officers of Key Club, I have taken joy in encouraging my peers to serve their school and their community. On the other hand, being the Senior Class Secretary, I have even more so developed my speech, planning, and empathetic skills. As a leader, I have also learned how to face adversity from others and how to listen to others and incorporate their ideas. I wish to utilize leadership in many different aspects of FSU.

Part of being a leader is continuing the traditions of a community to ensure continuity of the Seminole spirit. Traditions are what make a place unique and special and offer an opportunity for a community to come together, whether in celebration or in support of one another. At FSU, I plan to join my community in our traditions, whether they are supporting athletic events or commending academic achievements. In the service clubs I was involved in, including Anchor and Interact Club, I was never afraid to ask what people needed of me, and my fellow club members followed. A good leader is not defined by elections, but by the work, the service, and the success she achieves. I will continue with this work ethic during my next four years at Florida State. I plan on entering medical school and becoming a psychiatrist. Similarly, a disciplined work ethic is crucial to achieving greatness. Although I acquired my hardworking attitude from my father, I believe people are not born with greatness. To achieve greatness, one must have dedication. My career as a pianist is an excellent example of my dedication. I have been playing piano for ten years. Taking into account the weekly lessons and practice, I play piano for about 4 hours a week. It does not appear to be a great deal, but when my demanding school schedule of 5 AP classes and rigorous track workouts are added, my time seems to be cut short. Although given countless opportunities for me to quit over the years, I have stayed dedicated to my passion and I believe that is a necessity in achieving greatness. This character trait of mine will translate in following my second passion which is helping people. I am striving to become a world renowned psychiatrist and will not quit until it happens. The vision of the Alumni Association is "to unite the Seminole family and advance FSU's position among the nation's top public universities." I am skilled in using social media and I believe it is an excellent tool in bringing people together. I would use this as a way to advance the vision of the Alumni Association by uniting fellow FSU alumni. I will continue to do service projects when I attend the university, and that will be the role I take in advancing FSU's position. If I am graciously awarded the FSU's alumni Association's legacy scholarship, I will bring intense school spirit, a unique style of leadership, dedication to greatness, and the passion to put the university on the pedestal I know it deserves.

You have to go to multiple auditions every day, and will most likely book only one in every hundred auditions, if you’re lucky. You will constantly face rejection and people telling you you’re not good enough. On top of that, it is physically demanding. It is very hard on your body to be dancing and working your vocals overtime. You have to learn to take care of yourself while staying positive. In order to do that without getting defeated, you have to have a lot of passion. Greatness: Let’s be honest, you cannot succeed in theatre if you are not great at what you do. Four summers at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville as a Teenage Volunteer (TAV) taught me about humility, loss, love and how to be genuine. My white Keds, tucked away in a corner of the closet for now, led me along hundreds of miles of corridors where I learned that people need to feel valued in the midst of trauma. Every employee is important to the integrity and well-being of the hospital, not just the doctors and nurses but also those who deliver food, order diapers, destroy old boxes and change lightbulbs. Everyone makes a difference and I want to as well. Shadowing a physical therapist this summer cemented my desire to major in Exercise Science on a path to a doctorate degree in Physical Therapy. Now that I have the incredible opportunity to be a Seminole, I cannot wait to wait to continue the FSU tradition that almost every member of my dad’s side of the family began over 50 years ago. As a Seminole I will dedicate myself to my academic and artistic studies as well as service to others. FSU is my perfect school because I can engage in the arts community through the Community Arts Initiative, enlarge my family with 250 new sisters in a social sorority, serve young patients and their families at the Tallahassee Ronald McDonald House and hopefully intern overseas in the Global Scholars Program. My grandfather painted arrows on my face at my first tailgate and football game at Doak Campbell Stadium in 2002 and I cannot wait to continue the tradition in 2016! In four short years, I will join my peers again at Westcott Fountain to post graduation pictures and celebrate our successes with a final dunk. Then, I can finally click the Life – household membership level on the FSU Alumni Association page and join an even larger family of proud FSU graduates.

No matter how prosperous a university may be, it is imperative for each of its students to be concerned about the well-being of the school and others. Furthermore, I have led in the classroom by maintaining a 4.0 unweighted Grade Point Average (4.8 weighted) throughout my high school career, proving my intense work ethic and earning a spot in the FSU Honors Program. During my freshman year I was Vice President of the Student Class Council and have continued to be a council member for three years. Being an experienced well-rounded leader in many areas will allow me to step into Leadership roles at FSU with ease and competence. FSU will help prepare me to have a successful life-long career after graduating in Accounting. I plan to give back to as much as possible to this nationally top ranked University. My goal is to establish a scholarship foundation for passionate Seminole Accounting students. The College of Business at FSU ranks among the top business schools in the state, and I understand the importance of contributions to ensure the continued success of FSU. Two close family friends of mine graduated with Accounting degrees from FSU and have built prosperous CPA firms. I see firsthand how they both give back to FSU and how spirited they both are about being Seminoles. It is clear to me that with world- renowned professors and evident post-graduation achievement I will be able to enter the workforce confidently, philanthropically and proudly as a Seminole. The Legacy Scholarship will directly help me fulfill this dream and I will continue the Mission, Vision and Values of the Alumni Association while on campus and in my future. “GO NOLES!”
