Today’s Walks Today’s starting points: A: Llanfairfechan B+, B, C: Conwy Tal y Fan & Mynydd y Dref with Graham Hogg Grade A Distance 10.5 miles 16.9km Climbing 2789ft / 600m . From the centre of Llanfairfechan we proceed up the valley towards Bwlch y Ddeufaen, striking left up to the summit of Foel Llwyd (1978ft / 603m), just before reaching the top of the pass. After a short descent we climb again to reach the summit of Tal-y-Fan (2001ft / 610m), our highest point of the day. A gradual descent down the Cefn Maen Amor / Cefn Llechen ridge takes us towards Bwlch Sychnant and Echo Rock. An optional climb is available at this point to visit the hill fort on the summit of Alltwen (837ft / 255m). Either way, we continue along the crest of Mynydd y Dref (Conwy Mountain) with superb views out over the bay towards the Great Orme. This path brings us neatly out beside the Afon Conwy which we follow upstream for a short distance back into town. Conwy Mountains with Pete Stevens Grade B+ Distance 9½ miles / 15.3 km Climbing 1443ft / 440m It may look like we are all doing the same walk (Conway Mountains via the North Wales Coast Path), well in a way we are, but some are going further than others. The reason for this is that 1. We are limited to where we can walk and 2. This is one of the most spectacular seaside walk that you will ever encounter. We start our walk in Conway and follow the North Wales Coast Path around the Conway estuary, before turning inland to cross the railway. We now start our main ascent of the day up Conway Mountains, and following them to the Sychnant Pass. The views are magnificent with The Great Orme towing from the sea and in the distance (if we are lucky), the Lakeland Fells. We now cross the Sychnant path before heading (still on the North Wales Coast Path) to Cefn Llechen, from where we leave the path (NWCP) and start to head back passing a stone circle on our way to Hafodty. From here we follow paths to Mount Pleasant where we meet the Sychnant Pass road, which we follow back into Conway and the awaiting coaches. North Wales Path with Roy Smith Grade B Distance 8 miles / 12.9km Climbing1250ft / 381m Our walk today starts from Conwy and is a pleasant, enjoyable walk, partly along the North Wales Path. From Conwy Quay we follow the estuary that rounds Bodlondeb Wood and leads us over the railway to the way markers indicating the path that ascends Conwy Mountain. A fairly steep ascent leads us up the mountain to spectacular views over the estuary. Following the North Wales path for some way, we continue until we turn off and descend past Llyn-y-Wrach. We are now able to follow well-established field tracks until we reach Lodge. Then follows a combination of minor road, track and field walking that takes us down towards the Conwy estuary to arrive ultimately at Fachleidiog. From here we make our way northwards along a very quiet minor road. After a short time we are able to cut across fields and through woodland before finally emerging at Conwy Castle and the end of our walk. Conwy Mountain Circular with Derek Lowe Grade C Distance 7 miles / 11.25km Climbing 500ft / 152m Our walk today starts in Conwy where we make our way to Mynydd y Dref otherwise Conwy Mountain. From here we continue onwards around Alltwen. Now we follow field paths and tracks which eventually bring us back to Conwy.
