• Bill Putnam, Sr., was the first to use artificial reverb creatively on a pop recording in 1947, with the use of the first reverb chamber in the studio’s bathroom.

• This was The Harmonicats track "Peg o' My Heart”. Having the ability to control reverb amount and turn the effect on and off at will was a major breakthrough, and a big part of the record's sound.

• For most of the fifties, room recording and echo chambers were the only options to create reverb. Bill went on to build dedicated chambers for his studio in Chicago, as well as his later LA studios. Chamber reverb (echo chambers) is to this day a technological and architectural art all to itself. https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=9BIuX7IsdE8 Echo Chambers

• Gold Star Studios, was founded by David S. Gold and Stan Ross in 1950. But it's known best for the hits recorded there by legendary producer . Spector became famous for his "" approach, which relied on dense arrangements and liberal double-tracking to create huge-sounding mixes. Reverb—specifically, the natural reverb from the echo chambers at Gold Star —was the mortar that held the "Wall" together.

• He constructed two trapezoidal rooms behind Studio A, coating the walls with two full inches of a cement/plaster mixture to increase reflectivity. Ten- watt amps powered 12" speakers in the chambers, and RCA 6203 ribbon mics were used for capture, giving the reverb a thick and warm tone without too much high-end. "" by is a classic Wall of Sound production, featuring percussion drenched in Gold Star's famous echo. Echo Chambers
