As part of this commitment, the University provides a variety of intercollegiate and club competitive athletic opportunities for our students. Making the most of these opportunities, many of Colorado Mesa’s student athletes are excelling both in the athletic arena and in the classroom. Along with earning more than 64 conference championships, our athletes, both past and present, have earned academic awards at the college, conference and national levels. We had eight teams earn regional berths in 2011-2012 and six advance to their respective NCAA Division II National Tournament. Just this past year alone, 120 of our student- athletes were named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic, eight to the All-Region Academic Team and three Academic All-Americans. We also had nine student-athletes earn All- America status, 93 named Rocky Mountain Athletic All-Conference and three RMAC Athletes of the Year. These remarkable individuals are proving that the skills needed for athletic success -- dedication, focus, teamwork, dealing with success and adversity, perseverance and good old hard work – are the same skills required to make significant academic accomplishments. By engaging in both scholarship and the high ideals of sportsmanship, they are enriching their college experiences, paving the way for successful careers and serving as positive role models for the next generation of student athletes.     THE CAMPUS... The University of San Diego is an independent Catholic institution of higher education. Founded in 1949, USD is located on 180 acres overlooking Mission Bay, San Diego Harbor and the Pacific Ocean. The campus is named Alcalá Park and is located just 10 minutes from downtown San Diego. The campus was named after a Spanish village near Madrid - Alcala de Henares. Found- ed by the Greeks as Complutum, the village was later renamed Al Kala (the Castle) by the Moslems. Chris- tians recaptured the village centuries later and founded a university whose buildings became the inspiration for USD’s architectural style. Under the leadership of Mother Rosalie Hill of the So- ciety of the Sacred Heart and Bishop Charles Francis Joan Kroc Peace & Justice Center Buddy of the Diocese of San Diego, the University of San Diego began as separate colleges for men and women. The first classes met in 1952; the School of Law opened its doors in 1954. By the late 1960’s it became clear that both colleges would benefit from combining academic resources, and in 1972 the University of San Diego became a single coeducational Catholic university. Now governed by a board of trustees independent from the founding organizations, USD is a Roman Catholic institution that welcomes students, faculty and staff of diverse religions, traditions and remains dedicated to the values originally articulated by Mother Hill and Bishop Buddy. Students choose from more than 60 undergraduate and graduate degrees programs in academic divisions including the College of Arts and Sciences and the schools of Business Administration, Leadership and Education Sciences, Law and Nursing and Health Science.

Few in the history of the sport can compete with the accomplishments of the Cardinal’s decorated head coach. In 2009, Dunning, the two-time reigning Pac-10 Coach of the Year, enters his ninth season at the helm of the Cardinal. In his time on The Farm, he has helped Stanford further strengthen its hold as one of the premier collegiate volleyball programs in the United States. Dunning has been in the spotlight of NCAA volleyball since he began his coaching career 24 years ago at Pacific. Since then, he has collected four national titles, matching former Cardinal coach Don Shaw for the most in NCAA his- tory, and coached in more Division I national title matches (9) than anyone. He has taken all 24 teams he has coached to the NCAA Tournament and led 21 of those teams to an NCAA Regional. Dunning ranks among the top five coaches all-time with an .829 career winning percentage, and among the top 10 active coaches with 676 career wins. Entering the 2009 season, Dunning boasts a 676-139 career record, with a 239-37 (.866) mark at Stanford. In his eight years on The Farm, Dunning has had nine athletes earn 22 AVCA All-America honors and developed four AVCA National Players of the Year.

The current crop of BC based lacrosse players in the US collegiate system in the coming years. is the largest in history and has far more depth and breadth than ever before.     2009 Catawba College Lacrosse 2009 Catawba Lacrosse Seniors THIS IS CATAWBA COLLEGE atawba College was founded in Newton, CNorth Carolina in 1851 by the German Reformed Church. In 1890, Catawba became a coeducational institution, with the first woman graduate completing her studies in 1893. Officials closed the Newton cam- pus in 1923 and moved to its present loca- tion in Salisbury, re-opening in 1925. In 1957, the Evangelical and Reformed Church merged to form the United Church of Christ, with which the College maintains affiliation. Chemistry Catawba seeks to serve the Salisbury-Rowan County community through its programs and Chemistry Education services. The Roberston College-Community Communication Arts Center, a facility built as a joint venture with the Comprehensive Science Education community over 35 years ago, houses the Shuford School of Performing Arts and show- Education cases musical and theatre productions from the English college and the community.
