The quintet — four from California high schools and the other from Montana — signed a National Letter of Intent or have accepted an offer of admission to continue their wrestling and academic careers at Cal Poly, Sioredas and Mustang director of athletics Don Oberhelman announced Thursday. The list of signees is led by two-time Montana state champion Trae Vasquez from Flathead High School in Kalispell, Mont. Vasquez claimed the 113-pound state title as a freshman, capping a 22-1 season, and the 120-pound championship to complete a 41- 0 sophomore campaign. He was second in the state finals at 132 as a junior and missed his senior season due to a knee injury in football suffered while making a tackle on a kickoff return. Vasquez made 46 tackles in seven games as a cornerback and free safety, also notching nine pass breakups, two forced fumbles and a pair of fumble recoveries. In wrestling, Vasquez is a two-time Fargo All-American and United World Wrestling cadet runner-up at the World Team Trials. With a 4.00 grade-point average, the all-state free safety and five-time track and field state placer plans to major in kinesiology at Cal Poly with a goal of becoming an orthopedic surgeon. The California high school recruits, listed alphabetically: Uriel Beristain (Chula Vista, Calif./Mater Dei High School) — A two-time state qualifier, Beristain placed third in the Flo Reno-Worlds Uriel Beristain (Chula Vista, Calif./Mater Dei High School) — A two-time state qualifier, Beristain placed third in the Flo Reno-Worlds and sixth at the Doc Buchanan Invitational at 170 pounds. Cameron Ghoddoucy (Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley High School) — Ghoddoucy placed first in the 2017 Pat Lovell Coast Classic, 2017 Clovis World Challenge, 2018 East Bay Athletic League and CIF-North Coast Section Masters Meet and claimed top honors in the 2016 Puma Classic. The 170-pounder was 38-6 as a senior and earned over 130 varsity wins. Benny Martinez (San Diego, Calif./Eastlake High School) — Martinez placed in the top 16 at the 2018 California state finals as well as in the Fargo junior freestyle tournament at 126 pounds. Dylan Miracle (Madera, Calif./Madera South High School) — Miracle placed fifth in the California state finals at 170 pounds last March. He also was seventh in the High School Nationals, was a four-time state meet qualifier and was selected to compete in the ORCA all-star wrestling tournament in Ashland, Oregon. Miracle won four County/Metro Athletic Conference individual championships in three different weight classes and also won the Chukchansi Invitational championship twice at 170 pounds. Miracle has a 4.2 GPA and plans to major in business administration. The five wrestling student-athletes who signed in November, listed alphabetically, include: Bronson Harmon (165 Pounds), Oakdale High School, Oakdale, Calif. Jake Ryan (149 Pounds), Oakdale High School, Oakdale, Calif. Hunter Sparks (125 Pounds), Roseburg High School (Roseburg, Oregon) Nathan Tausch (184 Pounds), Poway High School, Poway, Calif. Few in the history of the sport can compete with the accomplishments of the Cardinal’s decorated head coach. In 2009, Dunning, the two-time reigning Pac-10 Coach of the Year, enters his ninth season at the helm of the Cardinal. In his time on The Farm, he has helped Stanford further strengthen its hold as one of the premier collegiate volleyball programs in the United States. Dunning has been in the spotlight of NCAA volleyball since he began his coaching career 24 years ago at Pacific. Since then, he has collected four national titles, matching former Cardinal coach Don Shaw for the most in NCAA his- tory, and coached in more Division I national title matches (9) than anyone. He has taken all 24 teams he has coached to the NCAA Tournament and led 21 of those teams to an NCAA Regional. Dunning ranks among the top five coaches all-time with an .829 career winning percentage, and among the top 10 active coaches with 676 career wins. Entering the 2009 season, Dunning boasts a 676-139 career record, with a 239-37 (.866) mark at Stanford. In his eight years on The Farm, Dunning has had nine athletes earn 22 AVCA All-America honors and developed four AVCA National Players of the Year.

    ADI ANDERSON RB 5-10 203 FR Oakland, Calif./McClymonds HS A 2018 CalHiSports.com all-state second-team multi-purpose honoree, Adi (pronounced I- dee) is on his way to San Jose State as one of the Bay Area’s top all-around impact players. Anderson led McClymonds High of Oakland (Coach Michael Peters) to the 2018 California Interscholastic Federation Division 4A championship, the school’s third consecutive state title. During his high school career, he was the Most Valuable Player for two different schools in two different leagues. The Bay Area News Group named him a 2018 second-team utility choice on defense. He also was a San Francisco Chronicle second-team All-Metro choice as an all-purpose player on offense as a senior. The Oakland Athletic League’s Most Valuable Player rushed 115 times for 1,246 yards averaging 10.8 yards per carry and scored 21 touchdowns on the ground. A capable and dangerous pass receiver, he also caught 17 passes for 284 yards. He also was used as a safety on defense. Anderson played his first three years of varsity football for Moreau Catholic High in Hayward, Calif. (Coach Andrew Cotter). He was the 2017 Mission Valley League Offensive Player of the Year, a San Francisco Chronicle honorable mention All-Metro pick and an All- Bay Area News Group honorable mention choice after scoring 32 total touchdowns, 31 of them rushing. As a member of the Mariners, he saw game action as a running back, outside linebacker and defensive back. The two-sport athlete also was a sprinter on the Moreau Catholic High track and field team his sophomore and junior seasons.
