ADI ANDERSON RB 5-10 203 FR Oakland, Calif./McClymonds HS

A 2018 CalHiSports.com all-state second-team multi-purpose honoree, Adi (pronounced I- dee) is on his way to San Jose State as one of the Bay Area’s top all-around impact players. Anderson led McClymonds High of Oakland (Coach Michael Peters) to the 2018 California Interscholastic Federation Division 4A championship, the school’s third consecutive state title. During his high school career, he was the Most Valuable Player for two different schools in two different leagues.

The Bay Area News Group named him a 2018 second-team utility choice on defense. He also was a San Francisco Chronicle second-team All-Metro choice as an all-purpose player on offense as a senior. The Oakland Athletic League’s Most Valuable Player rushed 115 times for 1,246 yards averaging 10.8 yards per carry and scored 21 touchdowns on the ground. A capable and dangerous pass receiver, he also caught 17 passes for 284 yards. He also was used as a safety on defense.

Anderson played his first three years of varsity football for Moreau Catholic High in Hayward, Calif. (Coach Andrew Cotter). He was the 2017 Mission Valley League Offensive Player of the Year, a San Francisco Chronicle honorable mention All-Metro pick and an All- Bay Area News Group honorable mention choice after scoring 32 total touchdowns, 31 of them rushing. As a member of the Mariners, he saw game action as a running back, outside linebacker and defensive back. The two-sport athlete also was a sprinter on the Moreau Catholic High track and field team his sophomore and junior seasons.

Adi, whose name means “ruler” in Muslim, is undecided on an academic major. He enjoys painting and drawing. While at Moreau Catholic, he had a self-portrait and a painting of a close friend displayed in a campus art gallery. One of his second cousins is San Jose State freshman defensive back L.J. Anderson. Adi is a native of San Francisco.

SCOTT BRESLIN OL 6-4 290 JR Burbank, Calif./Ventura College

A 2018 California Community College All-America selection, Scott is the next in a continuing line of Ventura College (Coach Steve Mooshagian) offensive linemen joining the Spartans. Breslin played right tackle as a freshman and also earned Region III all-state and first-team All-Northern League honors as a left tackle his sophomore season. In his two seasons, Ventura College played for the 2018 California Community College state championship and reached the 2017 Southern California Football Association (SFCA) championship game.

The graduate of Burbank (Calif.) High lettered in football (Coach Richard Broussard) and track and field. He played the tackle positions at Burbank High and was an honorable mention All-Pacific lineman as a junior and second-team choice as a senior.

Scott is interested in majoring in psychology with an emphasis in sports psychology or business administration. He enjoys listening to country music. Jason Aldean, Brantley Gilbert and Chris Young are three of his favorite performers. Scott recently earned a Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) racing license. He is a native of Burbank, Calif.

JACKSON CANAAN TE 6-3 225 FR Sacramento, Calif./Jesuit HS

A two-sport athlete at Jesuit High in Carmichael, Calif., Jackson will begin his San Jose State football career as a tight end candidate. Canaan (pronounced Cane-in) played defensive back, running back, outside linebacker and defensive end at the high school level (Coach Marlon Blanton). His best season was in 2017 when he earned Sacramento Bee honorable mention all-metro honors. He was a first-team All-Delta League running back that averaged 8.9 yards per carry and scored nine touchdowns on just 78 carries for 691 yards.

Canaan is in his fourth season on Jesuit’s boys and team. Jackson specializes in the sprint freestyle races – the 50 and 100-yard distances. He was the Delta League champion in the 50 free, twice, and the 100-yard free as a sophomore. Canaan was 36th in the 50 free at the 2018 California Interscholastic (C.I.F.) state championship meet. He has best times of 21.23 in the 50 and 47.5 in the 100.

Jackson is undecided on an academic major. Canaan enjoys hitting balls and watching Netflix. Jeremy Canaan, his dad, played on the 1991 and 1992 American River College football teams and went on to San Diego State. Jackson is a native of Sacramento, Calif.

JORDAN COBBS LB 6-1 226 FR Oakland, Calif./San Leandro HS

A 2018 CalHiSports.com third-team all-state selection for medium schools, Jordan is expected to begin his major college career as a linebacker hopeful. In the last two seasons for San Leandro (Calif.) High (Coach Brad Bowers), Cobbs was credited with 156 tackles, 26.0 tackles for loss, 5.0 quarterback sacks and three pass interceptions. He was the named the West Alameda County Conference Foothill Division’s Defensive Most Valuable Player, a Bay Area News Group third-team selection and a San Francisco Chronicle honorable mention All-Metro choice as a senior.

Jordan also blossomed as a pass receiver in 2018 and was named a first-team all-league tight end. After catching seven passes for 143 yards and a nifty 20.4 yards per catch average as a junior, Cobbs hauled in 30 passes for 653 yards and five TDs. He was second on his team with his five scores.

He was invited to play in the January 2019 Junior Prep Sports all-star game in Honolulu, Hawaii. The two-sport letterwinner also was a catcher on the 2017 San Leandro High team.

Cobbs is thinking about biology as his major. He would like to become an exotic veterinarian. One of his second cousins is comedian Lewis Belt, who frequently appeared on MTV’s “Are you the one.”

Jordan is third year as a member of the school’s Social Justice Academy. In 2017, Cobbs teamed up with academy members and community leaders that resulted San Leandro, Calif., declaring itself a sanctuary city.

He found time to be part of the San Leandro High Concert Orchestra as a freshman and plans to return to the school’s music program for the rest of his senior year. Jordan enjoys playing the drums the most with the snare drums as his favorite. Cobbs also has learned to play the trombone, trumpet, saxophone, violin, guitar and piano. He is a native of Berkeley, Calif.

DERRICK DEESE, JR. TE 6-4 225 JR La Palma, Calif./Golden West College

After redshirting the 2018 season at San Jose State, Derrick will be competing full-time for playing time as a tight end. Deese, Jr., saw action briefly in the final three Spartan games of the 2018 season and had no pass receptions. The transfer from Golden West College (Coach Nick Mitchell) was a 2017 first-team All-Southern League wide receiver who caught 37 passes for 658 yards and eight touchdowns. The graduate of Kennedy High in La Palma, Calif. (Coach Sean Clark) was a two-time first team All-Empire League honoree. He is the son of former offensive lineman Derrick Deese. Deese, Jr., is a native of LaPalma, Calif.

CHAD EARLE CB 6-2 208 JR Seneca, S.C./East Los Angeles College

A cornerback prospect on his way to San Jose State this fall, Chad played two seasons at East Los Angeles College (Coach Bobby Godinez). Earle was credited with 39 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, two pass interceptions and 14 pass break-ups for his community college career.

The two-sport athlete at Seneca (S.C.) High lettered in football (Coaches Brett Turner and Gene Cathcart) and . As a football player, he was a wide receiver and a safety as a junior and a cornerback as a senior. He was a two-time AAA Region I basketball honoree and a second-team all-league pick in football.

He is interested in being an art major with an emphasis in architecture. A cousin, Lorenzo Earle, played basketball for Southern Wesleyan University located in Central, S.C. Chad is a native of Seneca, S.C.

ALEX GALLAND P 6-2 200 Grad Bakersfield, Calif./Yale University

A 2017 second-team All-Ivy League selection, Alex has his bachelor’s degree and is enrolled at San Jose State as a master’s degree and punting candidate. Galland (pronounced Gal- land) was a member of the Yale University football team during the 2015 through 2018 seasons. After redshirting the 2015 season, he was the team’s punter and placekicker the next three seasons.

An All-Ivy League punter as a junior, he had a 37.0 yards per punt average for 147 punts as an Eli. Only two of his punts resulted in touchbacks. One-third of his punts (49) were fair caught and 57 landed inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. As a kick scorer, he converted 91 of 98 PATs and 21-of-30 field goal attempts. His longest field goal for Yale was a 42-yarder, his third of the game, in the 30-24 win at Cornell on September 22, 2018.

The graduate of Liberty High in Bakersfield, Calif., lettered in football (Coach Bryan Nixon), soccer and track and field. Galland was a punter, kicker, wide receiver and defensive end during his three varsity seasons. He was a second-team all-area honoree and the 2014 C.I.F. Central Section Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The California Scholastic Federation scholarship award recipient was a halfback on the soccer team and a hurdler in track and field.

Alex earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. During the summer prior to his senior season, he worked for Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, the leading manufacturer of helicopters in the United States. Galland is pursuing a master’s degree in public administration at San Jose State. Musically-inclined, he was a member of the Yale Precision Marching Band for three years. He first learned to play the trumpet and added the guitar to his repertoire once he was in college.

Mitch Galland, his dad, was an offensive guard on the 1991 UC Santa Barbara football team, the school’s last squad prior to discontinuing the sport. Alex is native of Bakersfield, Calif.

LANDO GREY DL 6-2 260 JR Pago Pago, American Samoa/ Chabot College

The first defensive line prospect to sign with the Spartans in the current signing period, Lando returned to action in 2018 at Chabot College (Coach Eric Fanane) after serving a two-year church mission in Omaha, Neb. Grey was credited with 22 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss and 3.0 quarterback sacks. He also forced a fumble and recovered a fumble last season for the Gladiators.

Lando began his college career at New Mexico Military Institute in 2014. He was in on 25 tackles and 2.0 tackles for loss in the eight games he played.

The graduate of Faasao Marist High in Pago Pago, American Samoa, lettered in football (coach Filo Langkilde), baseball and track and field. He was a team captain his senior season. During his high school football career, he was a defensive lineman, linebacker, offensive lineman and running back. Grey played outfield for the baseball team and threw the shot put and discus his one track and field season.

Lando has not decided on a major. He enjoys swimming and hiking. Le-Anthony Grey, one of his two older brothers, was a linebacker on the 2018 Chabot College football team. One of his cousins is Kurt Taufa’asau, a defensive lineman at the University of Wyoming during the 2011 and 2012 seasons and current defensive line coach at the New Mexico Military Institute. Lando is a native of Honolulu, Hawai’i.

CAMERON HANSON LB 6-2 230 JR San Diego, Calif./Southwestern College

After helping Southwestern College (Coach Ed Carberry) to post-season victories his freshman and sophomore seasons, Cameron joins the Spartans as a linebacker hopeful. Hanson played inside and outside linebacker for the Jaguars as they won the 2018 Beach Bowl and the 2017 American Championship Bowl.

The 2018 second-team Southern League pick was his team’s Most Valuable Player and team captain. He was credited with 49 tackles and was third on the squad with 9.0 tackles for loss. During his community college career, he was used occasionally as a running back.

The graduate of Mount Miguel High in Spring Valley, Calif., lettered in football (Coach Shaun McDade) and track and field. Though linebacker was his primary position, he also saw action as a defensive lineman as a sophomore, fullback as a junior and punter and long snapper his senior season. Hanson was the Grossmont Valley League’s Co-Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team all-league player for the second consecutive season. He concluded his high school football career playing in the first San Diego County vs. Inland Empire football all-star game that occurred in January 2017. The two-sport athlete competed as a sprinter, shot put and discus thrower, and long jumper in track and field.

Hanson is contemplating a major in kinesiology or business. He enjoys watching movies and lists “Pulp Fiction,” and “Friday” as three of his favorite movies. Cameron first began playing football when he was a fifth-grader. He is a native of La Mesa, Calif.

ISAIAH HOLINESS WR 5-10 175 FR Redlands, Calif./ Redlands East Valley HS

A two-time All-Citrus Belt League selection, Isaiah was one of the Citrus Belt League’s most versatile and productive offensive players the last three seasons. Holiness (hoe-lee-ness) played running back, wide receiver and was a kickoff and punt returner for Redlands East Valley High in Redlands, Calif. (Coaches Rich Lunsford and Kurt Bruich). He scored at least one touchdown in each of those four roles during his high school career.

In his three varsity seasons, Holiness averaged 7.1 yards per carry and scored 13 rushing touchdowns; caught 163 passes for 2,293 yards and 18 scores; returned 36 kickoffs for 1,104 yards, a 30.7 average, and scored once; and handled 15 punt returns for a 17.7 average and one touchdown. His senior season, Isaiah averaged 47.4 yards per kickoff return.

He is undecided on an academic major and has an interest in coaching football at the college level. Isaiah is a native of Cleveland, Texas.

B.J. JOHNSON S 6-2 195 FR Santa Rosa, Calif./Montgomery HS

The 2018 Redwood League Co-Most Valuable Player and a San Francisco Chronicle All- Metro honorable mention selection, B.J. is projected to compete as a safety when he joins the Spartans this fall. Johnson was a highly productive defensive back and wide receiver for Montgomery High in Santa Rosa, Calif. (Coaches Vertis Patton, Tony Keifer, Marcelo Bautista). In junior and senior seasons on defense, he was credited with 151 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss, and four interceptions. As a wide receiver, he caught 79 passes for 1,389 yards and 15 touchdowns. In 2018, he was a team captain and named his team’s Most Valuable Player. Johnson concluded his high school career catching six passes for 91 yards and a touchdown in the 2019 Tri-County All-Star Game in Petaluma, Calif.

B.J. is interested in being a health science major and pursuing a professional career either as a doctor or a nurse. He enjoys drawing cartoon figures and has experience sculpting and making pottery. One of his uncles is the late Tory Epps, a defensive lineman who played six NFL seasons (1990-95) for Atlanta, Chicago and New Orleans. He has an aunt, retired Ninth District Court of Appeals judge Carla Moore, who is the first black female judge in the history of Akron, Ohio. He is a native of Akron, Ohio.

STAN LIVINGSTONE CB 6-0 175 FR Carson, Calif./Lawndale HS

A two-time All-Ocean League defensive back, Stan is on his way to San Jose State for 2019 spring practice. Livingstone played his senior season for 2018 California Interscholastic Federation Division 2-A champion Lawndale (Calif.) High (Coach Travis Clark). He was a first team selection as a senior and second team honoree as a senior. Livingstone also was a dynamic wide receiver averaging 22.9 yards per reception in his two seasons at Lawndale High.

He began his high school football career as a safety for Serra High in Gardena, Calif. (Coach Scott Altenberg). The two-sport athlete also was a sprinter for Lawndale High. His team won the 2018 Ocean League 4x100 meter relay.

Stan would like to major in business entrepreneurship. He enjoys listening to ho-hop music. Two of his favorite movies are “Friday” and “Creed II.” For the last two years, Livingstone has been a member of the Kappa Instructional Leadership League sponsored by the Los Angeles alumni chapter of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. He is a Los Angeles native. DOMINICK MAZOTTI TE 6-4 232 FR Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley HS

The 2018 Athletic League (EBAL) Most Valuable Player, Dominick will be a tight end prospect when he joins the Spartans. Mazotti (pronounced Mah-zott-tee) was one of the most versatile players in the East Bay as a senior at Amador Valley High in Pleasanton, Calif. (Coach Danny Jones). He played quarterback, tight end, wide receiver, linebacker and safety in 2018. He rushed for 1,245 yards and 18 touchdowns, completed 58.3 percent of his passes for 822 yards and nine scores, and caught 10 passes for 254 yards and four touchdowns. Dominick was a first-team All-EBAL quarterback, second-team All-EBAL tight end, a Bay Area News Group second-team utility honoree, and a San Francisco Chronicle All- Metro honorable mention selection.

Mazotti strictly was a quarterback as a junior at Amador Valley High. He completed 54.2 percent of his passes for 1,102 yards and 10 TDs and rushed for 488 yards and six scores. The two-sport letterwinner is a sprinter and high jumper on the track and field team. Mazotti began his high school career at Foothill High in Pleasanton, Calif., as a high jumper and 400 meter specialist in track and field and played on the freshman and junior varsity football teams.

Dominick would like to major in journalism. Mazotti would like to become a college football coach. Tony Mazotti, his uncle, was a defensive lineman on the 2000 and 2001 University of New Mexico football teams. Mazotti’s godfather is CBS SportsNet college football analyst Aaron Taylor. His favorite actor is Chris Pratt and he lists “Star Wars,” “Halloween,” and “10 Things I Hate About You” as his favorite movies. Dominick is a native of Concord, Calif.

MALIKHI MILLER WR 6-4 185 FR Oakland, Calif./El Cerrito HS

A big-play specialist the last two seasons at El Cerrito (Calif.) High (Coaches Jacob Rincon and George Austin), Malikhi is heading to San Jose State this fall as a wide receiver candidate. Miller averaged 29.4 yards per catch and caught nine TD passes as a senior. Seven of his nine touchdowns for the San Francisco Chronicle All-Metro honorable mention pick were 22 or more yards in distance.

In his junior season, he averaged 28.9 yards per reception and scored seven times. He was a two-time, first team All Tri County Athletic League Rock Division wide receiver. The two- sport letter winner also is in his fourth season playing on the school’s basketball team.

Malikhi is undecided on an academic major. He enjoys playing football-themed video games. His step-dad is San Jose State running backs coach Alonzo Carter. Malikhi is a native of Oakland, Calif.

JELANI NEWMAN OL 6-4 290 FR Scottsdale, Ariz./Saguaro HS

A two-time AIA (Arizona Interscholastic Association) first-team All-Region 4A selection, Jelani is an offensive line hopeful headed to San Jose State this fall. Newman was a three- year offensive guard for the powerhouse Saguaro High of Scottsdale, Ariz., state championship teams. The Sabercats notched their sixth consecutive state championship with Newman paving the way and providing pass protection on offense in each of the last three seasons.

The 2018 first-team all-state class 4A honoree was part of a program that won 39 of 42 games and averaged 44.8 points per contest the last three seasons. The two-sport letterwinner also was a shot put and discus thrower for the Saguaro track and field team.

Jelani is interested in majoring in business with statistical applications. He would like to become a general manager of a professional sports franchise. Newman enjoys bass and catfish fishing. His biggest catch was an 8-pound catfish in the Arizona canals during the early stages of the summer of 2017. His favorite movies are “Thor:Ragnarok,” “Jurassic World,” and the original “Star Wars.” His mother, Chelsea Newman, was a member of the 1992 through 1996 Washington State University women’s crew teams. Jelani is a native of Phoenix, Ariz.

QUINN OSELAND OL 6-6 305 Grad Springfield, Ill./U. of Minnesota

A three-year letterwinner at the University of Minnesota, Quinn is joining the Spartans for his final season as an offensive line candidate. Oseland (pronounced owes-land) was a Gopher during the 2015 through 2018 seasons. He redshirted the 2015 season, played in three Big Ten games in 2016, eight in 2017 with starts in the Middle Tennessee and Nebraska wins, and two contests in 2018.

Oseland is graduating from the University of Minnesota as a business and marketing education major. As a Gopher, he was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree. He plans to enroll in the San Jose State University M.B.A. program.

The graduate of Sacred Heart Griffin High in Springfield, Ill. (Coach Ken Leonard) lettered in football and track and field. Oseland helped Sacred Heart-Griffin to Class 5A state championships his junior and senior season. The all-state selection was considered one of the top-25 prospects in the state of Illinois by espn.com, 247Sports and Scout.com as a senior and among the top-100 offensive tackles nationally by 247Sports and espn.com.

One of his favorite pastimes is bass fishing. In 2018, he spent the summer as an intern at the Herb Brooks Foundation, named after the 1980 U.S. Olympic Team gold medal winning team head coach. His responsibilities focused on social media activities for the non-profit organization.

Quinn is a native of Springfield, Ill.

JUSTIN SCREMPOS OL 6-8 315 FR Milpitas, Calif./Milpitas HS

A two-time All-America and three-time all-state honoree, Justin is heading to San Jose State for the 2019 season. Scrempos was one the driving forces for Milpitas (Calif.) High’s (Coach Kelly King) recent success winning 40 out of 54 games including the 2017 California Interscholastic Federation’s Division 4A Championship. The Trojans averaged 41.1 points a game that year, the third consecutive season with Scrempos in the offensive line Milpitas averaged at least 30 points a game.

Scrempos was a MaxPreps first-team Freshman All-America and second-team sophomore All-America choice. CalHiSports.com named him to its 2016 first-team all-state sophomore team, a 2017 first-team all-state pick as a junior, and a third-team all-state choice as a senior. He is a four-time All-Santa Clara Valley Athletic League DeAnza Division first-team honoree and the 2017 Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year.

Presently, Justin is undecided on an academic major. He enjoys listening to the music of Common Kings, Post Malone and Tu Pac. His older brother, Jason Scrempos, was a 2018 fourth-year junior defensive lineman at the University of Washington. Justin is a native of Mountain View, Calif.

JAMAR SIMPSON WR 5-11 155 FR Moreno Valley, Calif./Rancho Verde HS

A two-sport letter winner at Rancho Verde High in Moreno Valley, Calif., Jamar is a wide receiver hopeful heading to San Jose State. An explosive wide receiver, Simpson averaged 23.8 yards per catch the last two seasons for the Mustangs. He had 62 receptions for 1,476 yards and 18 touchdowns. In 2018, Simpson had a breakout season catching 36 receptions for 985 yards and 13 touchdowns as Rancho Verde High posted a 13-1 win-loss record and advanced to the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section Division II championship game. He also was a sprinter on the school’s track and field team.

ALEC TRUJILLO QB 5-11 175 FR Exeter, Calif./San Joaquin Valley HS

A 2018 CalHiSports.com first-team all-state selection for medium schools, Alec is one of the top-five passing quarterbacks ever from California’s Central Section high schools. Trujillo passed for 11,671 yards and 116 touchdowns in just over 3.5 seasons as a starter first at Exeter (Calif.) High and then at San Joaquin Memorial High in Fresno, Calif. He played his final three varsity seasons at San Joaquin Memorial High and led the Panthers to the California Interscholastic Federation (C.I.F.) Division II-A championship game.

The highly accurate passer completed 66.2 percent of his passes (727-of-1,098) in his four seasons. Each season, his completion percentage increased from 56.2 as a freshman to 74.9 percent as a senior. A dual threat from the quarterback position, Trujillo added 19 rushing touchdowns during his high school career. The 2015 second-team All-Central Sequoia League honoree at Exeter High (Coach Chris Frankland) despite playing in just eight games was a two-time first team All-Metro Atlantic Conference (MAC) selection for San Joaquin Memorial High (Coach Anthony Gaston) and the MAC’s Offensive Player of the Year in 2018. As a senior, he threw for 4,253 yards and 50 touchdowns – the first San Jose State quarterback prospect to throw 50 touchdown passes in a single season prior to becoming a Spartan.

Alec credits his dad, Frank Trujillo, for instilling a productive work ethic and his older brother Adin for his teaching him everything possible about being a quarterback. The first time he played the position was as a 9-year old member of the Exeter Leopards Pop Warner football team.

Presently, Alec is considering business management as his academic major. Two of his favorite movies are “End of Watch” and “Remember the Titans.” He is a native of Visalia, Calif.

NATANO WOODS QB 6-5 250 FR Kent, Wash./Kentridge HS

The 2018 4A North Puget Sound Divisional Offensive Player of the Year, Natano (Pronounced Nah-tah-no) is joining the Spartans as a record-setting high school quarterback. Woods played two seasons for Kentridge High in Kent, Wash. (Coach Brett Ogata). As a senior, he passed for a school-record 2,351 yards and 25 touchdowns and rushed 98 times for 526 yards and 14 TDs.

The 2017 second-team all-league choice was his team’s Most Valuable Offensive Player after passing for 1,829 yards and 13 touchdowns and scoring nine more touchdowns rushing on 84 carries. Natano concluded his high school football career playing in the 2018 Cleats vs. Cancer All-Star Football Game in Kent, Wash.

The three-sport athlete is playing on the Kentridge basketball team. He was a shot put, discus and javelin thrower on the track and field team as a junior.

Natano is interested in majoring in communication studies. Two of his cousins are former Spartan wide receiver Tuati Wooden, 10th on the San Jose State career list with 133 pass receptions, and linebacker Josh Mauga, whose eight-year NFL career includes five seasons with the (2009-13) and three seasons with Kansas City (2014-16). Woods enjoys playing video games and hiking. Natano is a native of San Jose.
