Personally, I would prefer that Holy Mass be celebrated that way, but while studying the GIRM (I was in the seminary for a 3 semesters) I ran across paragraph 299: “The altar should be built apart from the wall, in such a way that it is possible to walk around it easily and that Mass can be celebrated at it facing the people, which is desirable wherever possible…”. You speak a lot about following the rubrics and the GIRM, saying mass the way Holy Mother Church commands us to. You’ve cited the GIRM to encourage things like chalice veils. How can you reconcile your endorsement of ad orientam worship in the Ordinary Form with your insistence on “Say the Black, Do the Red”? When we do hear it, or recite it in its entirety, how many of us think that perhaps it provides us with a firm understanding of the nature of the Trinity? Truthfully, it really only scratches the surface. Where the more modern translation of a particular verse reads, “The Father infinite, the Son infinite, the Holy Ghost infinite,” we might surely admit that the original 1662, “The Father incomprehensible, the Son incomprehensible, the Holy Ghost incomprehensible,” is probably closer to the truth of the matter in terms of understanding, even for very devout Catholics.

The Conferences have shown that there is indeed a new spiritual movement alive in the Church and in the world. As Fr. John Hardon once said, "The Catholic laity is finally rising up and defending their faith in a visible, vigorous way against dissident forces that seemed for a long time to control the public stage." I believe we can testify to this statement as we reflect on the great number of Catholic Conferences throughout the United States and the world that have grown considerably over the past 7-10 years. We have seen the truth being witnessed by numerous people who have expe- rienced a conversion in their own lives and have come forth to share this profound truth of our Catholic faith. Truly a "growth in holiness." With the development of holiness, which is brought forth by the activity or (workings) of the Holy Spirit, one can see the transformation of the Christian soul in the outer expression of the witnessing to faith. The Life of the Spirit within makes every action "spiritual." This year we will witness once again the dynamic force of the power of the Holy Spirit working through the special people who will head our conference with the rising up of inspirations, initiatives, ideas, actions and charisms for the greater good of the Church.
